>investigating Orthodoxy
>read first book by the Antenicene Fathers
>immediately starts talking about the Phoenix as if its a real creature and says this is a representation of Christ found in nature

Well that didn't take long

>protestant brain is too autistic to understand metaphor
no surprise there
>>

Its literally not a metaphor though. Have you read the First Epistle of Clement?
>>
>>18753264
>the man has never read a book in his life
do you think Tolkien believed Hobbits were real?
>>
>>18753306
So you're admitting your faith is bunk?
>>
>>18753312
He didn't say that. What he said is, "to those on the outside, everything is said in parables".
>>
>>18753312
>bunk
Shortened from bunkum, which came from the name of Buncombe County, North Carolina, after a congressman gave a long, meaningless speech there in 1820 to please his voters.

I kind of want to hear this speech. How was this guys words so bad that it became synonymous with nonsense.

Lots of ancient people wrote about the existence of phoenixes.
That's apparently proof jesus is the son of god, why shouldn't it be proof that phoenixes exist?
>>
>>18753306
you haven't read it. That's what I can see.
>>
>>18753306
I think Clement believed the phoenix was real, but unlike OP I don’t think that discredits his theology. Most people believed it was real back then.
>>
It talks about them EXPLICITLY not as a metaphor but as real being.
For the record this isn't just an Orthodox issue.
Read Martin Luther. The founder of Protestantism. He also, in a very literally sense, believed that elves existed.
All Christians, all Abrahamicists are like this - that is to say, schizophrenic.

>Most people believed it was real back then.
idk why this wasn't just the first reply, you'd think people who obsess over a person who lived in the ancient world would possess above average knowledge about the world and period he lived in.

aren't these guys supposed to be lead by the Spirit of all truth? or something...

Vampires are real too, we just call them narcissists now. They do not self reflect, they drain energy, you defeat them wIth sunlight (truth), you can pin them down by the heart, and can only kill them by cutting off their fat head. They have no power unless you invite them into your house. They are powerful, smart, and hypnotic (Trauma bond). These monsters are real, you just need to translate the concrete words of myth into the new abstract concepts of modern language.

Clement's epistles aren't regarded as Scripture, so it's okay.
>>
>>18754111
its protestants who believe scripture is the final authority on all religious matters.

A.) Narcisism is a personality disorder in which someone compensates for an inferiority complex with a superiority complex, basically believing they are the best by default because they are incapable of seeing any evidence of their self worth in their actions. It is not always apparent to an outside observer, though it sometimes is. It does not mean egotistical or full of yourself, though people with NPD can be either. NPD does not require the pathologized trait "parasitic lifestyle" in which someone feels no qualms about relying on others for food, shelter, money, or even emotional labour.

B.) the first stories of vampires come out of eastern europe and depict them as bloated, zombified corpses only sated by the gore and blood of the living. The idea that vampires are hypontic or attractive originates in the victorian area and was popularized over the 1900s and 2000s (see: twilight). So your idea of vampires came into fashion well after the majority stopped believing in vampires

Unlike the non-abrahamic religions, which famously don't believe in supernatural creatures, oh sorry i forgot about shinto and hinduism and the native american religions and literally every religion that wasnt made up by a sinophilic autist in the 1980s

Protestants are right and Protestantism is the true religion

Narcissists use other people as mirrors, demanding that others reflect back a perfected, idealized image of them. They do not self reflect. They are incapable of seeing any evidence their self worth in their actions.

Leaving an encounter with a narcissist often manifests physically as extreme exhaustion, brain fog, and a sensation of being utterly drained. Like having your blood sucked.

Bringing absolute transparency, hard evidence, and public exposure to their behavior (sun light) shatters their illusion. It triggers what psychology calls "narcissistic mortification"—a state of intense, debilitating shame.

Pinning them down requires pinning down the truth of what is in their heart: total emotional void. Once you anchor yourself to the reality that they cannot love, their emotional leverage over you evaporates. (This is the wooden stake to the heart, pinned to the earth.)

You cannot cure a narcissist by stabbing them through the heart (love or empathy). You can only completely defeat the dynamic by "cutting off" the connection entirely, going absolute No Contact. By severing the communication channels, you stop the head from spinning further webs of distortion. (Decapitation).

apocryphal, next!

What if the Phoenix is real? Have you considered that?
>>
>>18754170
Origionally, the very real creature named "Vampire" was also called, famine, and plague, which I will remind you, is real. It wasn't until the Victorian age that this word was used to describe other completely real phenomena such as internal psychological erosion.

>filtered by not understanding that even the early church fathers and Saints, even when inspired by the Holy Spirit, are still flawed sinners with limited understanding and only working within their knowledge at the time
from what I remember Clement ends his second epistle by even referring to himself as a sinner that has a long way to go.
You need to get past the faulty idea that every single thing written by a holy man is absolutely 100% perfect and that Saints are like perfect superhuman superheroes. A common theme throughout basically all of their writings is that they are not like this and don't think of themselves like this. In Paul's epistles he refers to all members of the congregations as Saints and in Orthodoxy the idea is that all believers are called to be Saints, as holy as possible, and simply just at different stages of holiness throughout their walks of faith.

You can be considered a Saint and still think the Earth is flat for example, like St John Crysostom.

>>18753306
It's likely not a metaphor, people at the time just believed it was a thing that actually existed as a fact of reeality; Clement presumably just didn't know otherwise and used it as an analogous proof of resurrection being a thing in the natural world to convince the readers of his letter/reaffirm their faith.

If you think "protestantism is the true religion" then you have no idea what protestantism or the reformation is.
