Was Tiberius really a coomer living on a private pedo island, or was it just slander?
>>
>Were the senators writing truthful histories about the guy who killed a bunch of them in treason trials
Assume it's fake if it sounds too outlandish. He had the island and was probably fucking twinks and young girls on it but I doubt he was killing servants for sport or having blood orgies.

They never believe the blood orgies...

>assume the primary sources are wrong
Uh, that’s not good history
>>
>>18753489
Thats literally how you do history dumb fuck.
>>
>>18753474
The “minnows” story is hella creepy, real or not.
>>
>>18753496
That’s how you do pseudo-history, making up stupid bullshit unsupported by evidence.
>>
>>18753472
Private pedo island? Probably, even Trajan had a harem of young boys.
Fucking and murdering babies tier of depravity? Probably not, just senators making shit up to blacken the reputation of an emperor everyone had grown to despise by the end of his reign

You idiot, niggas lie. They especially lie when they hate someone.
>>
>>18753520
>niggas lie
>therefore I can divine real history through my third eye
Even if the narrative presented by primary sources appear unlikely a historian should at most express a mild skepticism rather than outright rejection in order to remain grounded by evidence.
>>
>>18753506
>stupid bullshit unsupported by evidence.
You mean like a massive amount of our """""primary sources"""""" for ancient history?
>>
>>18753537
>where’s the evidence for this evidence?
>>
>>18753540
Now you're getting it!
>>
>>18753489
Most of these sources are not "primary" they're often centuries later or people writing just based on gossip, yo yeah you should try to contextualize and asses if what they're telling is true or not.

>Spurius the Liar notes in his chronicle that the sky is red

>"Spurius is a known liar therefore the sky is obviously yellow, not red"
>"Spurius is a known liar so it is highly doubtful that the sky is red. It might be some other color, but we do not have enough sources to tell which one."
Both of these are outright rejections but one is the right call.
