When did brotherly love start to be seen as "gay"? As much as holding hands is apparently too much for the typical uptight prudish anglo with his drab black and white suit. The contrast with tribal societies and ancient Greece could not be more stark.

Probably around the time fags started doing it.

Interestingly Greece didn’t have this problem despite pederastic relationships being public and widespread, possibly due to their highly formalised nature which made them easily distinguishable from ordinary friendship (or perhaps because they just didn’t care or worry that much). I can’t remember which 18th century writer it is who talks about the Greeks having a very clear vocabulary distinguishing friendship and love which allows you to see which relationships between males were romantic/sexual and which were purely brotherly love (and being a Christian he uses this distinction to see which relationships were virtuous and which weren’t). As for when Anglos became uptight, I saw a written source from the 1700s criticising the custom of men kissing each other because it might “lead to sodomy” “like it has in Italy”. From the 1700s onwards in England you see both homosexuality become more frequently punished and also male displays of affection become less open and more taboo, largely after the formation of Christian civic societies in the 1690s dedicated to enforcing moral purity in public

I always thought the Koteka was a cool outfit because it covers the penis for modesty but leaves the testicles so you can like see who’s blue balling and who’s wife drains his balls each night. I bet they gossip about stuff like that.

Ok but what's with the dick gourds?

In the United States things changed in the 20th century, perhaps with the emergence of an openly gay subculture. Walt Whitman’s poetry is turbo gay but at the time it was seen as “ah yes, comradely affection amongst bros!”

The natives believe it is indecent to show the penis which must be covered in public, but showing the testes and butt is okay.

We have so much to learn from them
