How did glasses go from being invented in the 14th century just as a reading aid and staying that way for centuries until it became basically expected for a fourth of the 40+ population to wear them all day? And now like 90% of east Asian zoomers use them? Is myopia a social contagion like transgenderism or glass delusion, that spread after figures like Benjamin Franklin and Harold Lloyd made it fashionable and high status?

Back then slight myopia didn't have any meaningful effect on most lives, but now that everyone is expected to be able to read faraway text, look at traffic signs, etc. the threshold for getting glasses has been significantly lowered.

>>18755894Too much screen exposure in the modern world + being a bit far or short sighted isn't really a big deal in manual labour lolI wear glasses 90% of the time, but when I was working in a cattle ranch I just took them off for the entire work day and it didn't affect me at all.
>>18755894People are at screens almost every second of their waking hours
>>18755894a lot of modern health conditions didn't exist back then, or not to the same degree. for example, back and knee problems were far less common before metal and concrete floors.
