I know droit du seigneur was likely fake but it does make me wonder if it was fake, why didn't it ever happen? Why wouldn't a Lord fuck a peasants entire family in front of him?
>>
Because it's against the Bible.
>>

Forced sexual unions probably happened all the time, but it wasn't written about because it was technically illegal for a lord to force himself on his subjects.

>rapes happen
>some lords likely raped some of the time
>yet court documents rarely recorded it
>is this because lords didn't rape?
>no
>a power imbalance likely saw them raping more than others
>>
>>18756922
The peasants, even serfs, weren't slaves, the reason serfdom was even there was to make sure they don't just wander off, back then there was definitely more land than people to work it. So an abusive lord would have issues with his peasants eventually leaving one way or another.

Secondly this entire thing probably comes from the fact that what the lord could do is to force marriage between his serfs.

Droit du Signeur as in a codified legal right to cuck your subjects is definitely an invention. But imo it was probably based on the fact that Feudal lords could very easily take advantage of the women subject to them. It's actually really common in economic arrangements were a wealthy proprietor has more or less free-reign over a mass of powerless laborers. You saw it in American plantations, Latin American Latifundiae (it still happens today, sometimes). Curiously, both of those models kind of descend from the european feudal one, if you think about it.

It's one of the reasons given for gilgamesh being a bad king in the standard babylonian version, so the idea has been around a long time.
I wonder if Herodotus mentions it anywhere.
>>
>>18757818
He does, he talks about a Libyan tribe practicing this.
>>
>>18756922
Not an invention, i'm descended of petty nobles (we lost everything ww2 though) from the northeast of France and we have a family story about it from the time of the French revolution, the story is:

>some peasant girl has big breasts
>lord (my ancestor) hears she's getting married
>invokes his ancient right with her
>has sex sex with her in front of her newlywed husband
>the husband is clearly unhappy but accepts it until the lord cums in his face
>lord gets stabbed in the ball sack and the girl and her husband both flee
>nobody knows what happened to them
>the lord had a leaky ball sack (it leaked clear fluid more and more as he got older and he died at 90 something)

We joke about leaky ballsacks often.
>>

Tbh unless that is written down anyway it's barely proof of anything. Family lore can be really unreliable. My grandfather loves to tell everyone we are all descended from a lost tribe of Israel that he made up himself.

Virtually every account of jus primae noctis amounts to this
>I knew a guy, who knew a guy, who says he knows somewhere this totally happened
What's much more interesting than this, are the cases where it actually happened for real. Like 19th century Kurdish tribes using it to humiliate Armenians.
>>
>>18757834
Like, as in it's not even one of the 13 tribes numbered in the Bible and he literally just made the name up off the top of his head?
Based if so
>>

>Why wouldn't a Lord fuck a peasants entire family in front of him?
People will forgive everything except for their women being violated. Do that and you’ve created enemies for life
>>
>>18757837
Yeah, basically. The first syllable of our surname happens to be the name of a secondary character in the bible which he likes to say is our ancient ancestor. Because of this he also insists we are of crypto-Jew descent.

Pic rel is from the book "Rethinking Rufus", what would you do if you were slave seeing his wife gang raped by whites? Not a thing because you know that an easy death doesn't await the man who does that.
>>
>>18757856
Maybe for you but for me it'd be Django Unchained up in that bitch
>>
>>18757834
>Tbh unless that is written down anyway it's barely proof of anything.
It is in a bunch of journals, letters etc. but the French side of my family has them, my mom has read old (She said 1800s so I imagine early 1800s but obviously idk) journals that mention it but won't tell me their names because she doesn't "want me spreading embarrassing shit around" which I understand but still.
>>
>>18757863
Sounds like bs desu
>>
>>18757859
>Maybe for you but for me it'd be Django Unchained up in that bitch
There's men in Guantanamo bay who've been tortured there so extensively that they've regressed to the mental level of children. You talk tough but we both know that when you're a few months into that torture you'd be thinking regrets, if you could think at all.

>Rethinking Rufus is the first book-length study of sexual violence against enslaved men. Scholars have extensively documented the widespread sexual exploitation and abuse suffered by enslaved women, with comparatively little attention paid to the stories of men. However, a careful reading of extant sources reveals that sexual assault of enslaved men also occurred systematically and in a wide variety of forms, including physical assault, sexual coercion, and other intimate violations.

I fucking hate woke. Legitimately, this outlook fucking ruins everything. Even genuinely interesting topics like this one. There's a good book to be written here, but this faggot is not going to write it, oh no. We need to look at it from the lense of intersectional negropolitics studies. I wish Deleuze, Guattari and Lacan had never been born.

proof?

You and me are just built different
>>

>We need to look at it from the lense of intersectional negropolitics studies
Dude, it's a good book. It also looks at the power dynamics, for example an incidence when a young white girl took a male slave into the woods and said he had to fuck her or she'd tell everyone he raped her and he'd get lynched.

>As late as the 19th century, some Kurdish chieftains in Anatolia raped Armenian brides on their wedding night (part of what was then known as the khafir or hafir system).[39][40]

Anon, that's the plot of To Kill a Mockingbird
>>

>You and me are just built different
No, you just talk tough. A human can withstand 11 days without sleep before death, you're telling me if someone did that you alone, without any other tortures, you'd not have any regret? Give me a break.

>>18757881
He wouldn't have the chance, bro, I'd have that punk on his back with these hands.

Yeah this one is about as credible as anon's family primae noctis story

I haven't been this angry at a book since I tried to read that book that tackles the connections between the state and organized crime in the Mexican drug war through literary analysis.
>>18757875
I hope you are right, though it still annoys me how the book still starts from the lense of racial grievances.
>when a young white girl took a male slave into the woods and said he had to fuck her or she'd tell everyone he raped her and he'd get lynched.
Probably happened more than you'd like to think.
>>
>>18757892
Hope it's better than "the delectable negro", anyway.

>NOOOOOO A PERSON WOULD NEVER USE A SOCIAL POSITION THAT GIVES THEM THE POWER OF LIFE AND DEATH FOR SEXXOO NOOOOOO
>>
>>18757892
>Probably happened more than you'd like to think.
For sure. If you put a person in a situation where they can skip the sexual marketplace and coerce sex with those they deem desirable when and as they wish away from the eyes of social judgement and in a social context which the object of desire as inferior the idea that people wouldn't take advantage of that is retarded.
>>
>>18757910
Much like buck breaking or primae noctis I have no doubt this general scenario happened somewhere at some point. But "I know a guy who knows a guy who said..." anecdotes are more folklore than history.

It was legal in Japan for samurai to fuck the wives of Japanese peasants and to kill Japanese peasants who insulted or disrespected them.

It was illegal in China for a noble to rape or seize a free commoners wife, which is why princes or nobles who did it in China were openly impeached or accused of crimes in front of the Emperor.

In modern western countries Pakistanis are the ones doing it to your future wives.

Aly Khan, Imran Khan and Hasnat Khan were playboys who had sex with dozens of British noble women.

While the lower class Pakistanis do it to working class girls.

it did happen, but in the "rich men abusing their power" sense not the "established ritualized custom" sense
