It's when Big Band and Swing died and became Rock 'n Roll, it's when houses and cars were made of paper, when Hollywoods Golden Age ended and theaters became filled with low-budget B movies like Plan 9 From Outer Space, when livings rooms became filled with television sets, which gave way to a lot of really low-budget forgotten slop like Colonel Bleep.
