In the early 20th century almost every single European ethnicity had their own ethnic enclaves all over the US where they held onto their unique culture and identity, where everyone continued to speak their ancestral tongue. Now all white Americans from Anchorage to Miami are interchangable rootless mutts, completely devoid of the sovl of the Old World.May Teddy Roosevelt forever burn in hell.
>>18765149>Ghettos full of Paddies and Ayytalian gangsters was le based actually
Oh but hyphenated Americans still exist and always will until we become Brazil 2.0. Standard White Americans are merely Anglo-Americans now facing a sea of Mexican-Americans, Indian-Americans, Asian-Americans, and Black Americans.“American” isn’t a meaningful label alone.
WTF did all the Germans come from? Every time I heard of immigrants in my life, it was always Irish, Italians, Greeks, Slavs, Asians, etc. Never once, German, yet half that map is blue.
>>18765170>amerifat #173962803 who understand population vs geography on a map
>>18765152Of course they were, as were Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, German, Polish, Greek, Russian, Ukrainian, French, Ashkenazi, Basque, Spanish, Rusyn, Czech, Sorbian, Kashubian, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian, Portuguese, and Dutch neighbourhoods.
>>18765170>WTF did all the Germans come from?German states
>>18765163200 million without hyphens are 200 million too many.
>>18765170That map is overstated. Pic is data from 2020 census. In 2016, people could only pick one ancestry, but 2020 let people pick multiple. German was still significant, but a large portion in the 2016 map are not just German but significantly mixed with other groups, usually English but also other British ancestries.
>>18765170It's hard to comprehend if you're a coastal but there was a huge revolution across Europe in 1848 that shook up a ton of institutions and it hit Germany especially hard, so a lot of Germans came immediately in the wake of that and continued up through the formation of the German Empiret. coastal
>>18765170They tended to be farmers and they spread out a lot. Huge wave of it in the 1800s. But you didn't have the urban ethnic white enclaves like Irish and Italians. Or at least not as much. There were German neighborhoods in NYC iirc. Also they opened up breweries. If you go to Wisconsin or Ohio you'll see a lot of people with German last names. Also the beer.BTW if you look at the German splotches in Central Texas, a fascinating thing there is their polka music survived by hybridized with the Tejanos. So that oompa loompa music you hear Mexican construction workers blasting from their trucks is actually very German origin:https://youtu.be/dvfZ95ueOcQhttps://youtu.be/-6_HDXEhNO0Also in another plot twist, the Mexican government actually wanted German, Swiss, etc. settlers to populate Texas when it was a Mexican province rather than English-speaking Anglos from the United States (for obvious reasons) but lost control of it. There were some German-speaking settlers in the province of Tejas y Coahuila but most of the Germans arrived later. Anyways a lot of German cultural influence just blended in with American culture so people don't recognize its origins now. Hamburgers (a very German name!) might have also been something German immigrants came up with it. Hot dogs. Like that's just patriotic Fourth of July food that everyone eats but it's probably Americanized German stuff.
https://youtu.be/wjJrxuZrQSA
Also many Germans anglicized their names. Gretcher Whitmer (outgoing governor of Michigan) probably had ancestors named Wittmeyer. German militarism in the Old World had a lot to do that, it became very unfashionable to be German by 1914.I think Trump also has Germanic origins? Then think about those WWII generals. Eisenhower. Nimitz. The Bush family is anglicized Busch. But the beer kept the name. Nimitz was from Central Texas. There's also Budweiser beer. But Germans would be horrified if you suggested that was real beer because it's made from rice instead of wheat. Very un-reinheit, or un-sauber-like in that way. It definitely wouldn't past the Reinheitsgebot.
>>18765149Germans is still learning to respect the Romans and classical denken and nature’s god
Also last thing to mention is that there were a lot of German immigrants serving in Union army units, to the extent that entire regiments would be German speaking. And violent conflict between German immigrants in St. Louis with Confederate forces at the outbreak of the Civil War. Also some bloodiness happening in Texas. A lot of them were supporters of the Republican Party in those days. What's also interesting is that a lot of northern ones flipped to the Democrats later on during the party switch while the southern cracker whites became Republicans. Except for Central Texas however, the German Hill Country has remained Republican virtually the entire time since those counties were populated by Germans.
>>18765149>every single European ethnicity had their own ethnic enclaves all over the USAssimilation is inevitable if the ethnic community is not constantly refreshed with new immigrants.I'm a 2nd generation Polish-American whose parents immigrated to Detroit after WWII and in the 40s-50s-60s the metro area was full of Poles and the enclave city of Hamtramck was 99% Polish but when the Soviets cut off immigration after the war, the children and grandchildren naturally assimilated into the greater American culture.
>>18765170>WTF did all the Germans come from? Most of those of "German" and "English" ancestry are just random Amerimutts who long ago forgot their actual heritage and simply claim "German" or "English" because of some misremembered off-hand comment by their drunken grandma decades ago.If you did an actual DNA test on them, they'd be a mish-mash of various European lineages.
>>18765739Why does this map count only the places that speak Irish today for Ireland but for Scotland it is counting all the places that spoke Scottish like 300 years ago? Or possibly never like that chunk of the southeast.

>>18765229>The Bush family is anglicized Buschno
>>18765149It was better only in the sense that English heritage was held as the dominant heritage from all of the others. Now most people who are of English blood just call their ethnicity "American" or are Mormons and have no cultural weight.
>>18765170They choose flyover rural states unlike Italians and slavs that choose coastal cities. Also between WW1 and WW2 the anti-german sentiments forced many of them to ditch their german identity, with surnames changes and such
>>18765772Meh, German is still close to half the map. OP's looks more than half.
>>18765170Germans were there before those you named; Germans and British were the original Americans
Blood this blood that. Culture is lived, not a pedigree; Human beings are not dogs!!Unless you grew up in a community of foreign speaking people you’re an American! You’re not ethnically anything! Stop larping as a European.
>>18765882t. New German
>>18765170Germany was a massive shithole until it finally unified in the late-19th century. If you lived in a region where you could walk across two countries in an afternoon, you'd probably want to immigrate to America too.
>>18765882Redditors are the most obnoxious about this. They can’t figure out culture, citizenship, ancestry, and heritage are different things.
>>18765729It is absolutely not inevitable. The Amish and the Haredis have survived by insulating themselves, while the Quebecois have survived by receiving government support instead of oppression.
>>18766009Nta but those are outliers very good reasons. One requires a devout religion n that calls for separation from the modern world and the other has a provencial government and history of colonial self-government.The only other example I can think of are Italian-Americans being their own particular thing but only in certain areas. Outside of the east coast, they’ve assimilated and even the east coast ones are being forced out to assimilate because of new, non-Italian arrivals.
>>18765825>Slavssay what? most of them just became alcoholic blue collar workers in Rust Belt cities.
>>18766053>the other has a provencial governmentLiterally any place anywhere could have received autonomy if the government chose so. Though they would not neccessarily need it, neighbouring Ontario and New Brunswick also have French communities that are not going anywhere.

>>18767072so what is new york's excuse? The overwhelming majority of them in America as a whole came from the south so why is one group subhuman and the other isn't?
>>18767080New York was more conducive to the formation of ethnic enclaves because most immigrants who came into New York were poor Ellis Islanders
>>18767084most italians were poor, period. That's why they left.
>>18767080Not sure, but I think it’s just a case that there was more of them on the East Coast in larger ethnic enclaves. With less of them in the Midwest, they had to mix with other Americans more often. But even in random nowhere towns in Illinois or Ohio, you can find people with Italian surnames but otherwise completely Anglo-American.I’ve also heard the explanation that the one’s then went to the Midwest were more often from places further north. The East Coast ones were from Campania, Calabria, and Sicily while the Midwest ones could often be from Abruzzo, Lazio, etc. This is partly said from experience. I have an 1/8 Italian ancestry through my maternal line, and they were from north Abruzzo by border with Marche, near L’Aquila, and some Apennine villages. They migrated to the area on the Pennsylvania-Ohio border and ended up mixing with other Americans within a generation. The only lingering cultural effects are eating pasta and pointing it out sometimes. I really don’t even identify with it because it’s a pretty minor part of my ancestry. My British ancestry is paternal and the clear majority.
>>18767102my italian friend from connecticut's dna test is 100% euro but he still managed to be brown. America just does something to every ethnicity that comes here somehow.
>>18765149It was good in the long run. Multicultural European societies are destined to clash and compete with one another even as diasporaBy making every White American mixed with halves of one or the other, you unite all of them as WHITE people, instead of Italian New York or Swedish Minnesota

>>18767123He's pale yellow all year, even in winter. It's hard to describe. This is basically what i mean.Like it or not race is visual in america. Germanic looking brazilians are treated like whites until they reveal their home country, and if you're european but look like a latino you're going to be targeted for it, and this is the case for many many italians, greeks, spaniards, albanians, etc.
>>18767113With also the unintended (or perhaps intended) consequence of utterly eradicating any sort of attachment that white people have to their ancestry, allowing them to be preyed upon by international vultures.
