I've seen many arguments that Americans stole the idea behind cowboys and cowboy culture from mexico. Sure. But did it originate in mexico or Spain? Or somewhere else?
>>
>>18765653
No they didnt invent riding on a horse or herding cattle.
>>
>>18765653
Kek. Here's your original "cow" "boy/nigger". The Indian-Euro/Semite fags will see something other people did then just name it and claim they invented it, that's how they claim the horse and chariot.
>>
>>18765653
Anyone claiming to have "invented" what is essentially just a glorified shiteating job is full of shit themselves.
Anyone who droves cattle is a "cowboy", that's literally the whole basis of the job and culture.
Anyways, pic related was my "horse", I actually talk the talk and walked the walk. Any Australians who have been out bush will recognize it lel.
>>
>>18765893
>cowboy is a job
Sure but we are talking about "cowboys" not cowboys. A cowboy wears a gun belt, gets in shootouts, and rides a horse retard.
>>
>>18765897
Ah so a fictional character then? Ok, Hollywood 1920s or so.
>>
>>18765901
>cowboys in history NEVER EVER fought or shot guns it is 100% impossible all cowboys in the 19th century were pacifists
Retard
>>
>>18765902
Who said that? You seem hyper emotional.
>>
A lot of classic Texas cowboy culture naturally came from Mexico—“buckaroo” is Anglocized “vaquero” and the gear, lingo and ranching culture is Mexican. Of course there were a lot of whites and blacks moving west who had their own cattle herding cultures that came into the mix. Even Cajuns from Southwest Louisiana gave us “yippie-ty-o” from an old folk song.
>>
>>18765897
In that case, it's obviously a largely American invention with significant Mexican overlap, since virtually all iconic westerns and locales refer to Hispanic culture in some form or other but are largely still designed to appeal to American tastes and perspectives

Managing herds of cattle was invented by white people. You can piss and moan and bitch about it to your heart's content but you are wrong and a stupid lying faggot.
>>
A Cowboy is a job title anon. Cowboys were just ranchers. The reason we romanticize cowboys is because of their role on the American Frontier where they often dealt with violent outlaws threatening their ranches and source of livelihood. Yes, you can argue that Mexicans contributed to our modern perception of Cowboys insofar as Mexicans were among the most violent and threatening outlaws on the American Frontier

Both cultures inspired it. No reason to be dualistic about it.

Pastoralism was invented at the advent of agriculture. Cowboy hats might be influenced by those of the Mexicans somewhat.

Why are brown people so obsessed with claiming to invent things? It's usually something either self-evident or irrelevant too.
>>
It makes Americans seethe, because the pop-culture image of the cowboy is one of the few "unique" things they lay claim to, but in actuality, you are correct: a lot of that imagery came from Mexico/Mexican rancheros. They are moving the goalposts and trying some dishonest wordplay on what a "cowboy" actually is, because they really don't want to give the Mexicans their due. There is some psychological complex why they don't

When writing about the Mexican American War, Ulysses S Grant has to explain what a "lasso, corral, and chaps" are because his audience back on the East Coast had never heard those terms before
>>
>>18766415
if the mexicans did invent cowboys why don't all the cowboy stories end with them flaying each other's faces off
>>
Spain introduced the fundamental elements, which were then adapted in the Americas to the specificities of the terrain (the horned saddle, the lasso, chaps, etc.). However, this took place during the 17th and 18th centuries. Mexico, as a country, did not yet exist. New Spain was Spanish territory. If someone was born in the northern part of the viceroyalty—where the vaquero culture developed—they would have identified as neovizcaíno, neogallego, tejano, californio... never as Mexican.

You fags need to define your terms. If you mean cowboy to be pastoralist cattle farmers, Cowboy predates the americas by centuries. If you mean cowboy is the gunslinger rancher riding with his posse across the west, he is more fiction than real, but in as much as there is truth, he’s nearly all American in parts across time and locations. If you mean something else you need to explain yourself

The whole "stolen" thing is dumb. There were cattle trails where cows raised on ranches in South Texas were herded north. That area used to be Spanish and then Mexican and then Anglos populated it and broke away from Mexico, but that culture was influenced a lot by the Spanish-Mexican cattle ranching which proliferated throughout Mexico in the 1600s and 1700s.

Also this idea is totally non-controversial in Texas which is culturally associated with cowboys. We take a year of Texas history in middle school and it goes pretty deep. The emphasis on civics is one of the nice things about the public education system here. Also there's a big emphasis that Texas was a MEXICAN province that broke away from MEXICO. Now a lot of the Anglos always intended to do that in reality but they played politics, so you had the founding fathers of the republic before that declaring themselves to be loyal Mexican citizens, speaking Spanish in official correspondence, etc.

Honestly I think people in some other states who don't really have this cultural background get into culture wars about white people vs. Mexicans. There are also liberals (many from other states) who think the Texas war of independence was about slavery, which is projecting some weird Union vs. Confederacy or red states vs. blue states thing onto something that was very different. You can't really teach Texas history without teaching Mexican history. The actual flag we flew at the Alamo was also a Mexican flag with the founding date of the federal Mexican constitution on it.

spanish person here. spanish people invented it. i had a friend whom ancestors were "vaqueros" in southern spain. i myself have vaquero ancestors as well, but i think southern spain vaqueros are more related to what later would be the north-american cowboy

Thank you anon. Also the Texas longhorn is a offshoot Spanish cow breed introduced by conquistadors.

the fact you can see the same culture through the entirety of latin america should tell you it comes from spain
and once americans enter the west they mix into this same culture

You guys need to define a bit more precisely what you mean was invented. What exactly do you think Spain did first?

>A lot of classic Texas cowboy culture naturally came from Mexico—“buckaroo” is Anglocized “vaquero” and the gear, lingo and ranching culture is Mexican.
No. Everything was done by Spain.

Cowboy culture comes from Spain (vaqueros), even the mustang horses are a derivative of "mesteños" (mustsang is how they spoke that word in english) which is the Spanish breed that was taken by Spain to the US West.

Also missiones, patios, rodeos, presidios, etc, all of it was brought by Spain.
>>
>>18767282
what we invented was the way american cowboy deal with their cows. es de corte español. a lot of cowsheperds usually have different tools in regards to how to manage their cows, while what we invented (or rather, was inventend in the south of spain) is a mode of "cowboyship" that would develop into the american cowboy
>>
>>18767301
That’s a predecessor, not an inventor.
