hey, so I was that other anon a couple months back who was reading up on Japan's muromachi period and asking for some anime/movies/documentaries based around that time period. I think the northern and southern courts(Nanbokucho) period is especially interesting(if a bit confusing). Most of the documentaries, stories, and anime always focus on sengoku and edo periods so I wanted more inspo.
I wasn't too into Elusive samurai unless you can assure me it gets better or the manga isn't like the show at all.
Some anon recommended looking up NHK Taiga dramas and I was able to find a pretty acclaimed NHK Taiga drama called Taheiki based on the written chronical of the same name.
Anyone know where I can watch it in full (it's not entirely on youtube, just clips =/ ) as well as any other suggestions for dramas or anime on the period.
Also make it a Japanese history thread if there is any other info anyone wants to drop on the subject. I heard most of the historical documents on the period are in Japanese/ Japanese text books so anything other works you have translated into English would be appreciated.

bump please

First, the Elusive Samurai manga is just like the anime.
Another anime from that period which is a bit less comedic and caricatural is World Is Dancing, about the Noh dancer Zeami Motokiyo (Oniyasha)
As for the NHK TV drama, its on nyaa and archive.org, eng subs exist if you can find them

In fact the eng subs are on archive.org, you're in luck

thanks alot! I know a lot of this stuff can be hard to track down so I appreciate it.

btw, the World is Dancing seems like a show version of the movie, Inu-ou. It even has the title character from the movie in it, though he seems to look and acts very differently.
I will look into it more. Looks like it's available on amazon prime!
