>read about british conquest of india
>thought it was going to be medieval armies fighting against firearms
>turns out jeets had fully copied european style line infantry armies and artillery
>they outnumbered the brits 10:1 in every battle
>half the british forces consisted of jeet auxiliaries
>still got their teeth kicked in by the brits in basically every battle
So how come the muslims were never able to conquer it in over 900 years when it was so easy it was done by a fucking trading company?

The Persians were muslim. But yes they failed to civilize jeets

It's actually pretty funny.
If you play EU5 it nicely emulates technology spread through ports and trade, but as a side effect Indian states hog the superpower positions every time. They just have so much people, land, urbanized cities, resources, that with guns flowing from Europe they just become an unstoppable force. It's impossible to colonize India, you ferry a small force from Europe, and even if more technologically advanced by a few decades, Indian kingdoms roll up with 100k professionals and half a million conscripts with guns and artillery and you can't scratch them.
Makes you wonder what factors made the difference in real life.

>So how come the muslims were never able to conquer it in over 900 years
They did. Sepoys were adopted by the British from the Mughals, a Muslim empire. They were just disintegrating at that moment and Britain took advantage of it by pitting princes against each other.
Bengal, for example, the richest region and their foothold on the continent, wasn't conquered, it was taken in a coup.

The British copied the age old Indian military strategy of bribing your enemy's generals to defect but with the credit trustworthiness of a modern enterprise that Indian monarchs didn't bother to match since they had an explicit military advantage that made fabulously wealthy Indian banking families very wary of lending to them. This meant that the HBEIC had access to a far greater amount of capital for military ventures starting right from their tussles in the Coromandel compared to native allies and foes, making it also far easier to bribe subordinate generals.

The Battle of Plassey would have likely ended in a horrific British massacre if not for Mir Jafar betraying Soraj-ud-Daulah and leading a cavalry charge. Not to mention that the entire campaign was bankrolled by the Jagat Seths to recoup some of the massive debts that Siraj-ud-Daulah and his predecessor had piled up without repayment

Duration was never specified by the OP, he was asking about why it wasn't conquered by them (when it mostly was)

>In 1757, Mir Jafar, the commander-in-chief of the army of the Nawab of Bengal, along with Jagat Seth and some others secretly working with the British, asked for their support to overthrow the Nawab in return for trade grants. The British forces, whose sole duty until then was guarding Company property,[citation needed] were numerically inferior to the Bengali armed forces. At the Battle of Plassey on 23 June 1757, fought between the British under the command of Robert Clive and the Nawab, Mir Jafar's forces betrayed the Nawab and helped them to defeat him. Jafar was installed on the throne as a British subservient ruler.[27] The battle transformed British perspective as they realised their strength and potential to conquer smaller Indian kingdoms and marked the beginning of the imperial or colonial era in South Asia.
>The breakup of the centralized Mughal empire by 1750, led to creation of a large number of independent kingdoms in what is now Northern, Central and Western India, as well as Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan (all provinces of the former Mughal empire). Each of them were in conflict with their neighbor. These kingdoms bought weapons from the British and French East India companies to aid their wars. Bengal was one such kingdom. The British and French supported whichever princes ensured their trading interest. Jafar came to power with support of British East India Company. After the defeat of Siraj-ud-Daulah and later Mir Qasim the British strengthened their position in Bengal and in 1793 abolished the nizamat (referring to the Mughal suzerainty) and took complete control of the former Mughal province.[18][19]
nta but it was conquered by other Indians who were just puppets

There's a hilarious passage from Dalrymple's The Anarchy on the 1739 Battle of Panipat that set the Mughal collapse into full speed
>Having defeated the Mughals in an initial engagement, Nader Shah then managed to capture the Emperor himself by the simple ruse of inviting him to dinner, then refusing to let him leave. ‘Here was an army of a million bold and well-equipped horsemen, held as it were in captivity, and all the resources of the Emperor and his grandees at the disposal of the Persians,’ wrote Anand Ram Mukhlis. ‘The Mughal monarchy appeared to be at an end.’133 This was certainly the view of the ambassador of the Marathas, who fled the Mughal camp under cover of darkness and made it back to Delhi by a circuitous route through the jungle, only to leave the same day, heading south as fast as he could. ‘God has averted a great danger from me,’ he wrote to his masters in Pune, ‘and helped me escape with honour. The Mughal empire is at an end, and the Persian has begun.’134

You're mistaking it for the first war the puppet rebelled put up a coalition gathered an army and then was defeated in 8 different battles and then bengal was then annexed.

>The East India Company’s policy was to maintain direct and indirect control through agreements with local rulers. Two-thirds of India was occupied by puppet rulers who retained titular power but accepted the Company’s suzerainty. Through subsidiary alliances, protection against other regional powers was provided in return for payment and nominal British control
Most of India was still under local control. Divide and conquer works wonders

Your premise misses two critical historical realities: Muslim empires actually did conquer nearly the entire Indian subcontinent, and the British East India Company (EIC) didn't face a unified India, but rather a fractured landscape left behind by a collapsed Muslim empire.

First of all, they kind of did. Not all of it, but most. Yes, it lasted for all of twenty years both times it happened but that's persianate steppe empires for you.
Secondly, and more importantly, being a retarded autist about religion was kind of baked into islamic state-craft and that made the kind of pragmatic open-minded collaboration that company, and later crown, rule in India was built upon impossible. The pinnacle of turco-Islamic policy on Hindus is taxing the shit out of them to go see the Jagganath or whatever.
>>18770280
Should be pointed out that most of this wasn't actually fought for in a full war but instead obtain by other means like the doctrine of lapse or intimidating the Mughal's to cede Bengal.
Plus, I'm pretty sure at least some of the territory in read was only theirs on paper. I don't think anyone in Wa Country was aware White people even existed. If they saw one they'd probably think he was a gay kind of Shan then kill and eat him.

Didnt they rule that shit for exactly 900 years? Delhi Sultanate? Mughal Empire?
>>
>turns out jeets had fully copied european style line infantry armies and artillery
The Anglo-Maratha Wars and the Anglo-Sikh Wars were anything but one sides. The Brits had this retarded method of fighting where they just charged the big guns, suffer immense casualties, and then bayonet charge. For some reason, the indians didnt normally use bayonets, it was either spear or sword. Im only aware of one instance where sikhs, under a Portugese mercenary, formed a square to counter British cavalry but even with bayonets it didnt work out.

>thought it was going to be medieval armies fighting against firearms
Indians were still fighting 16th-17th century style with pikes, muskets, and cannons without screws to adjust for angles. When the French modernised Indian armies such as in the Anglo-Mysore Wars, Anglo-Maratha Wars, and Anglo-Sikh Wars; the Brits responded by casting forth hordes of Indians to charge the French made Indian cannons. The plan worked, the Indians lost their gun batteries to charging Indian sepoys, but the latter suffered calamitous casualties. Even the Brits lost some of their own officers and troops, but those guys were just the coup d grace

>turns out jeets had fully copied european style line infantry armies and artillery

This was only true of 3 factions (the Sikhs, Marathas, and the Mysoreans), and most of which copied European military thinking by the latter end of the 1700s, a time when the Brits already had a sizable foothold in Bengal fielding their own hordes of modern-warfare trained jeet armies.

Previously it was a bunch of Pajeet Kingdoms hiring European military advisors who had to work with the existing post-mughal military framework of many Indian Kingdoms. Warfare in the older style consisted of randomly raised & inconsistently trained forces of infantry armed with matchlocks forming large mobs around artillery and together with the guns: shot at the enemy until the foe broke or wavered enough for the actual professional soldiers of the Kingdom- armored cavalrymen- charged into the opps and did most of the killing during the pursuit (which was also followed by the Bumi: infantrymen who were not armed with guns, but could only afford swords & spears).

This is what Britain mostly faced in India and regardless the presence of gunpowder, is still pretty fucking medieval. Shit doesn't even qualify as pike & shot warfare.
