what am I in for? how likely am I to give up? (1280 pages)
alright. fuck me then, lol
>>18771687I have no idea
>>18772476See, your problem here is expecting any of the dense fuckers on this hellsite being able to read. For what it's worth it was the gold standard for a while but is outdated now as new evidence comes to light, more memoirs are published, more documents get shifted through etc.
>>18772477>>18772482kek, fair enough. I guess we can let this march to page 10 then.
>>18772566The broad strokes will still be right, by outdated it's stuff like "Gauleiter Von Shittenhosen was unaware of the V2 programme" but a guy doing his PHD on Von Shittenhosen in 2009 by complete coincidence spotted his signature in the 1944 guestbook of a hotel near Peenemunde and went through 200,000 pages of documents that noone had looked at since it was captured in 1945 because it's boring administrative papers, then spotted that Von Shittenhosen was indeed on the guest list of a V2 launch. That's the sort of thing people on this shit heap of a site say is "rewriting history".

Being a professional historian and author sounds pretty based, actually.
>>18771687Very broad and somewhat out of date, but I'd say it's worth a read. However, if you are already somewhat well versed with the history of Nazi Germany and looking to learn more about a specific thing, you are better off buying a book about that particular topic. Honestly at times I felt like it hardly went into more detail about a subject area than a Wikipedia article would have.

>>18771687Ask /lit/. We don't know how to read here on /his/.
>>18771687It's a good book, Shirer does a good job of keeping it readable and not getting too bogged down, since he was a journalist with an interest in history rather than an academic historian. The length is really because its just such a massive topic, not because its bloated with unnecessary granular details. In my history book club our half-joking test is when a historian talks about an important meeting and decides to include what people ate for dinner at it. That's usually the sign that the book is bloated with unimportant details the author included just because he had them. Shirer mostly avoids this pitfall.
