genuinely how the fuck could you tell who was on your side in chaotic medieval battles after the lines clashed? I doubt you knew the faces of 1000+ people, especially relevant in the endless civil wars but even when fighting people from other countries
Let’s see if this works:https://youtube.com/shorts/Z9mULGVS4FM?is=lvg86p2ThfdnH-kJ

Actually meant to post this version:https://youtube.com/shorts/DXcLVbTzJiw?is=rBNvspw3ux4pOJ9S
it wasn't a chaotic mess like in hollywood movies, they fought in formation and it was obvious the men besides you facing the same direction were on your side
>>18772784Each side had some formations + easily distinguishable banners, flags, and colors specifically to avoid this as mass friendly-fire is bad for both sides. That being said, there probably was a lot of friendly-fire that just went undocumented out of embarrassment
You were facing the same way. Also I'm assuming there was some marker that wasn't realy recorded in these type of drawings nor noted much in records maybe one side wore a hankerchief around somewhere idk. When all else fails you yell before fighting what side you're on.
>>18772784You can't memorize 1000 faces?
>>18772815>turns around and starts fighting backwards in you're pathKek nothing personnel
>>18772784Medieval era was a perminant "whos on first" situation anyway
>>18772784Banners, heraldry, and also the clashes weren't very chaotic like in movies. generally the guy in front of you is enemy and the guy next to you is friend
