I've been really trying to make money recently with illustrations but I'm having a hard time and getting pretty discouraged.Oekaki Post (Time: 23s, Replay: View)
Maybe sketches like these are too mundane?
>>835086Where do you advertise and do you already have an audience? Have you tried making a subscribestar or patreon?
>>835087it's not about mundanity, it's about saturation. global saturation.
>>835088Right now I post on tiktok, instagram, xitter, bluesky, discord channels in various fandom servers and sometimes reddit, most recently I started putting stuff on pinterest. I get most of my views and follows on tiktok. Everything else is dry as hell. I post the same content on every platform, so reuploads. I try to post at least once a week.Never heard of subscribestar before, and if I don't have much of a following I don't see how patreon can do much. Not sure how I can advertise better. Every profile is under chibicops if you want to look at it
>>835089I'm just wondering how I could stand out in it. Theres niche for everyone and I don't know how I can get visibility on my things so that those who like my artstye will commission me. I don't wanna be the top 1% of standard anime art, just unique enough that people would commission for the way I draw things.
>>835091Darn. TikTok is usually a great way to get commissions. I think the issue here may be your style? You art is fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but try experimenting and finding an edge. There are so many anime-esque art styles, commissioners have so many options to choose from. Don’t get discouraged though! Try doing requests or raffles on TT and slowly lure people in that way. Don’t do them all, that will burn you out. I’ll give your socials a check and see if I can help you in that regard. I know specifically for twitter, their algorithm likes consistency and two tags maximum. Bluesky algorithm is weird.
>>835095Also if a request is too complicated, don’t do that. Some people like to take advantage over artists. That’s especially when you take commissions and plug yourself.
>>835095I think my biggest issue is the anxiety around it all. I have this pressure to make money so I try to conform to what I think people want instead of just doing what I want. I lose my artistic edge in it and it makes me feel burnt out without even picking up the pencil. The thing that would probably benefit me the most is learning how to stop tweaking lol.Thank you though. Criticism and tips are greatly appreciated, I'm very grateful for the help so far.
>>835097I get that. The anxiety is a bitch and a half to get over, but you do eventually (especially when you really, really need the cash). A trick I learned from a friend is to just do enough to make rent/bills and then a little more so you can have extra. It’s even easier if you have a part time job to lessen the burnout.Pricing is a bit harder, but your work is great. Try $50-$75. That way it equals to a minimum wage for a day of work. If they complain, let them complain, personalized art IS a luxury.
>>835098Also, try YouTube! They are really pushing short form videos and posts for now. You could also get revenue from it once you hit 1,000 subs.
>>83509850 to 75 for just a sketch or colour too? I keep seeing people say that you need to price yourself super low starting out. I feel like 18 for a full body sketch (Like>>835087) is too much>>835099I'll look into this, thank you
