HS611 is a great tablet, used one for 3 years and it still works just fine

tho, affinity isn't good for digital art... it's okayish, but there are better options
>>
>>7862214
I am pretty much locked to free tiers. I know there's krita and one other I can't recall that compete for free. PS or Adobe is still like 20 a month right?
>>
>>7862218
genuinely, i'd go for Clip Studio Paint, even if you have to pay for it, the pro version is enough... if you decide to use PS, just pirate it with GenP, it's safe and completely free
>>
>>7862220
I just got about an hour into CSP, you were right. Even just making the red and blue graphite brushes was easier than Affinity, damn.

yeah... CSP is way faster and lighter, the brush engine is highly customizable, there are bazillions of free brushes (including PS file brush) and lots of tutorials

If that's how you want to be, fine. Just ask yourself if, "I don't like drawing cute things" is really where you want to go. I didn't either, but I also want to be true to myself and not just a reactionary to the glut of cute.

the issue is that you arent drawing what you see. youre drawing what you think you see.
your best attempt is in the bottom left.
>>
>>7875260
wtf these are good. I kinda thought I was going to get Howie scribbles and I'd have to lie and say some "You have lots of potential!" bullshit. But these are fine, unfinished, but fine.

>>7875260
There is a gap between OP's ref and your drawing, but it's close. Keep it up.

I'm so fucking bad at art holy shit

what should I even focus on to improve
>>
>>7876215
you did great indicating form in your piece!! very soulful lines

>>7879557
try to be mindful of the spaces between body parts and background. there's a wider gap between her arms, and more of a trapezoid shape between her belly, legs, and arms. don't be afraid to gently include lines to suggest form or light/shadow
>>
>>7879591
Thank you this is a helpful reminder

I also overlayed my lineart on the ref and realized her head and shoulder is too far left/down. I really tried to observe as much as I could in the ref but still made that mistake. Is there a way to prevent that kind of thing in the planning phase?
>>
>>7879592
you could very loosely sketch (using a lower opacity brush) your observation aka "gesture" then adjust by adding darker lines as you make corrections.
don't be afraid to exaggerate a little during the loose sketch. the curve on her back? make it very curved. artists have a tendency to "soften" a pose or "correct" an angle.
otherwise keep practicing your observational skills. think about relations between parts; how long her torso and arms are, the space on her shoulder, etc.

what i like to do is do a pure observation piece - then trace the photo next to that figure, then copy the first piece, plop it next to the traced result and see where my errors are and make corrections on it. it makes me notice where my errors in my observational skills faster. eg: i have a tendency to make the head slightly large or whatever.
but that is for practicing realism. once you find yourself bored or getting a decent grasp on it and you just wanna draw cartoon characters, use references to practice stylization. push and pull, shrink and enlarge, play with lines
