Why you should not trust youtube shills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH1WEYF8rlA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twy5Wo8m284

Do not worry pressure levels. 1024 is more than enough.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills. They often post paid twitter promos from random artists. It's all shilling, ignore it.

Recommended tablets:

>Screenless:
Used Intuos 3, 4, 5, Pro, One by Wacom

>Display:
Small (10-11"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
Medium (12-16"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S8/S9 Ultra, used iPad Pro 12.9" Gen 1-5
Large (22"+): Cintiq 22, Cintiq Pro 27, used 24 Pro, 27QHD

Avoid:

>XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand making Wacom imitations
Poor build quality, pens with wavy lines, wobbly nibs, broken tilt, issues registering light pressure, terrible customer support, uncalibrated displays. All Chinese brands have the same problems. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are.
Do not be fooled by myths like "Chink companies are just as good as Wacom now" - they've been saying this for over 10 years, nothing has changed.
Chinese companies have also been proven to shill on 4chan. You will see dozens upon dozens of posts in this thread by a chinese schizo shill, who will either be bitching about the OP, gaslighting as a Wacom fan, making pointless spam posts or giving terrible advice (like recommending Huion). Just ignore and report him.

>New iPads
Massively overpriced and overhyped.

>Microsoft Surface Pro
More optimized for palm rejection than good quality drawing. Wobbly lines when drawing slow and straight.

>Cintiq 13-16"
Completely outclassed by the Galaxy Tab Ultra & iPad

>Lenovo
Worse than Samsung in every way.

I thought drawing with a capacitive stylus on a cheap tablet without active stylus support would be a subpar compromise, but to my surprise my experience has been great and I haven't felt the need to "upgrade" at all, this was a nice surprise.

forgive me for huion posting but i have the most insufferable issue ever and wondering if anyone has come across it? going to just return the tablet if i cant get it sorted, but essentially:

whenever the USB portion of my 3-in-1 cable is plugged into my pc, i get this insane stuttering that means i cant even complete a full circle with the line breaking and glitching straight - as in, not following my movement.

it does it across my entire pc - it affects my mouse too. its like every 3-7 seconds theres that micro stutter. if i move my mouse in a circle i get the exact same effect, its not exclusive to the pen / clip studio. and it *only* occurs when the USB portion of the 3-in-1 cable is plugged in. if the hdmi and the power cable are in it wont happen, if the usb cable goes into my pc it will happen. I have also tried every single port, ive tried freeing up USB slots, ive even swapped cables thinking that was the issue but alas.

Hey bros, trying to get a drawing tablet but I want a bigger screen with a higher res than the 15.6 inch display on my old XP-Pen Artist. I was thinking about trying Huion Kamvas 22(Gen3). My budget is around $750. Anyone try this model?https://a.co/d/0cxsEJh9
>>
>>7934797
I have the Huion 27 Pro (60hz). It has Pen Tech 4.0.

I really do like it. Before i bought it, i had a huion with pen tech 3, and the pressure response/initial activation force sucked. I genuinely just took a gamble buying the 27 and dont regret it, its really great. If it was bad i was going to return it lol.

What i like is that it also came with a fat and thin pen, so i didnt have to buy a thin pen which is my preference.
>>
>>7931178
it was goy ass unnecessary purchase for me. But i like it much more than ipad for drawing. for rest tablet and computing stuff its like bad to really bad. And wish screen coating was more rough. I like pen and paper and coming from that its pain to use, so slippery
>>

I wish theyd make some pentech 4.0 inspiroys or something, been using a kamvas pro 24 4k for a few years now but recently switched to using a inspiroy 2 L because I like screenless tablets better
>why on earth would you do that
i can lean back in my chair and relax with the tablet on my lap, its also more convenient when using it with blender since I never liked dragging blender over to the kamvas. I'm also one of those people that arent bothered by the disconnect it introduces and I hated having to wear drawing gloves so I wouldnt smudge the screen.
>>
>>7925255
I'm between getting a XP Pen Deco 01 V3 or a Wacom Intuos Pro. I've read XP Pen got higher pressure sensitivity numbers, but what about quality, does it hold just as good or even better than a wacom?
>>
So how bad exactly is the fan on the Cintiq Pro 27? Should I wait for Wacom to make a fanless version?
>>
>>7935941
I've got a Deco 01 V3 and a Wacom One (screen, 13.3 inch) I bought in 2023. I don't see a difference in terms of pressure sensitivity. In fact, the most glaring difference between the two is how hard I have to press on the Deco 01 compared to the Wacom. In terms of drawing accuracy or wobbling or whatever, I don't notice a difference.
>>
>>7935941
i used to use an intuos pro L for 6 years but I recently switched to a xenselabs for half the price and i don't think im ever gonna go back until wacom realizes $500 for a screenless tablet is insane when everyone else is charging 1/10-1/2 that for the same thing

>>7936281

>10 times the amount you need on a wacom (3 gr)
It's remarkable, but does it make a change in the real world?, I mean, 30 gr of force is still quite short.
>>
>>7936808
It's very noticeable to me. It doesn't make it harder to draw or anything like that, but it's less pleasant. It feels like I have to press forcefully to do what light gliding does on the Wacom. I'd also say the nibs would wear out faster, but you can get bags of like 50 of those, so.
>>
Sorry for asking here, I'm a total beginner and I want a pen display just for doodling. I saw a xp-pen artist 12 (2nd gen) on fb marketplace, is it any good? My main usage is just for making handwritten fonts for manga scanlation.

Has anyone noticed how fucking awful the drawing surface in wacom intuos is? I first bought one in around 2018, that lasted a few years before an area on the tablet straight up wouldnt draw. I then bought a basically brand new intuos from a thrift store and it didn't even last a year before theres multiple spots on the tablet that won't pick up my drawing. This is not an issue of me pressing too hard or not changing nibs.
Also recs for a new screenless tablet dont rec gaomon I've tried them they SUCK
>>
Is there any 3d printing files of button cover for Intuos5L? mine is falling off due of its age
>>
>>7931062
Check your USB cable specifications, I had this issue with my XP pen tablet that I tracked down to the cable. In my case my tablet needs USB 3.1 gen 1 at least superspeed at 5gb/s I bought a longer cable and it only registers as high speed which is 480 mb/s.
I could not find anything on the Internet about this. With any hubs or splitting in between could exasperate this issue. On the Internet artists always say defective send back or reinstall the drivers.
You have to buy a properly rated USB cable which I have found to be a massive pain in the ass as cables on Amazon don't really show this information. Usually the one that comes with it will be properly rated. You can also double check in the OS for what speed your cable is connected at.
>>
>>7939076
To add to this, in my case with that big speed differential I got massive stuttering a lot more then yours.
What I would do, is if your using a different cable then the one it came with plug that one in and see if the problem still persists. If it doesn't then check the speeds registered by the OS of each of the cables.
What's frustrating is that it fails silently with no warning to the user. There's nothing to bubble up from the driver of it failing to transfer data fast enough, so I assume it just silently drops USB frames and you get stuttering.

>>
>>7943185
could you elaborate on the 22'' preference? i usually draw in a intuos large, but since i changed to a 31.5'' monitor, for painting is not really a problem thanks to the 10 bit color... but precise lineart really got a lot more complicated.

My options where a old used galaxy tab s8 ultra 14'', a huion kamvas 16'' 2.5k or a kamvas 22 plus.

im pretty familiar using the intuos large on a 24'' display, so i believe 22 is fairly close to adapt.
>>
>>7926027
the problem is that
artists learned the tone mapping the most informal way possible with lots of heuristics and that on top of currently fucked HDR pipeline overall will make everything significantly worse
i cannot think most of artists, even the /pro/ ones are barely capable of properly using that shit besides eye-screeching for the sake of wow factor
>>
>>7944516
even HDR in games are broken and i have no idea what all the craze behind HDR is when the most implementation are blind of viewing condition that uses some assumed approximation or anchors to absolute brightness which is honestly horrible to look at
i blame TV manufacturers
>>

>>
>>7944516
>i don't think most artists are capable of properly using that shit besides eye-screeching for the sake of wow factor
There was a brief moment on Twitter where I figured out how to upload HDR images onto it using updated ICC v4.4 profiles that weren't properly sanitized by Twitter's encoders. Then the shitposters discovered this and created flashbombs and Twitter retroactively stripped the images and prevented future images uploaded to the platform from having this effect, at least in-feed. You can still click on the images and get the HDR, but that kind of defeats the point.
Which is a shame because I think I do HDR in an actually tasteful manner (for the most part). Though, my workflow involves painting in a linear colorspace that's displayed to me in tonemapped SDR. Usually, if it looks good in SDR, it ends up looking good in HDR, provided I use the same family of tonemapping
I guess I'll just stick to painting on a screenless tablet on my HDR monitor, or Sunshine/Moonlighting into my android tablet and painting that way.
>>
>>7944819

>>7945541
The S11 Ultra is currently on sale for the same price as a Movink 14. From what I've seen, it's fine for art but falls flat on everything else. The screen being texture out of the box is nice, but then it's kind of a waste if you slap a protector on it. I've seen videos of it chugging too in more complex pieces. Maybe if it were cheaper I'd consider it, but when the Ultra is at the same price, I think I'll stick with the Ultra.

Hey anon, I use an Intuos Pro M and work on a 27 inch monitor, I wouldn't consider it. I bought a Cintiq 22 for the same reason thinking it would help with faster lines, but the displays on any non-pro display tablets are noticeably dogshit compared to my ProArt monitor that is calibrated out the box. I ended up returning the cintiq because it ended up being kinda pointless.
If you're open to the idea of using a stand for your Intuos so you aren't drawing on a flat surface where it's hard to make precise lines, I would try that instead. I saw a JP artist work using this method and tried it, way more comfortable than using it normally and I don't struggle with lines as much anymore.

I got a Bellmond Paper Screen protector for it and it's wonderful. I never liked drawing on glass but I was gonna suck it up and learn, but this solved my problem. Only issue I have is the case that I got is so fucking snug it pushes through inbetween the protector and screen and actually peel it off. Even when I try my best to get it over the protector, the squeeze is so tight, it pushes it up at the lip that it causes air bubbles to pop up. Anyone with an S11 Ultra got any case recs?

I've been using a tablet as an extra monitor and occasional light art duty for the past 5 years or so and it's finally crapped out recently (need to un/replug it after comp comes out of Sleep, edges turn white occasionally, and random disconnects) and I'm looking to side- or upgrade. Pic related is what I was using, an XP-PEN Artist15.6 Pro, recommended to me by a friend and I've been happy with it up until now.

What's out there these days which is similar in price (~$300ish, ideally, but if it's really solid I could go higher) and at least the same resolution (1920x1080)? I'm also not really happy with the XPPen's weird ass "3-in-1" USB and HDMI and extra power connection, so something simpler would be great. I'm not married to the 15.6" but anything smaller seems like it would feel too small for me.

Some quick searching led me to the Huion Kamvas 16 GEN3, and I'm seeing people elswhere say Huion is way better than XPPen, but based on the comments here that seems at least partially untrue and that Huion have their own set of problems?

i went from practicing in my sketchbook to now using a huion screenless tablet
and i think i prefer it over using an actual full tablet, it might be cope but idk
>>
anybody using huion in dual display setup with csp? i have this issue that when i toggle displays via pen, csp is not focusing (keyboard shortcuts dont work) despite being able to draw
>>
Is it normal for the cursor to shake when doing slow lines sometimes? I'm using a 5 year old screenless and I can't remember if I've ever had this problem before. It could just be something new about my drawing method so is this normal?

a week but it depend the tablet and monitor size those a re very important

Got a free Lenovo 2 in 1. Are they worth using as a drawing tablet? This is coming from someone that has never used one before.

for example, if i were to use a large intuos (basically a rectangle similar to A4 size) with a 16'' laptop screen, you are almost ratio 1:1 in both the size of the tablet and the size of the screen.

i mostly learned digital drawing in the begining with a huion medium size tablet (10x6) and a 24'' 1080p monitor, and thats more like 2:1 ratio, it means when 1 draw a straight line of 10 cm, i get 20cm on screen. you have to practice doing circles and straigh lines to get acustomed to it, but not mindlessly watching tv doodling. its about acuracy practice.

I was at the time finishing doing the drawabox first chapter in paper (the boxes challenge), drawing boxes, circles and elipses in 3 pages.
I moved to digital and started just doing the same warmup exercises.

After a couple of years on this setup, i moved to a large intuos 4, and recently, to a 32'' screen.

The thing i did, was to activate the precision mode (wacom drivers), that allows you to ''draw a rectangle'' inside your monitor, and use just that as active area. I did a rectangle in size like a real 24'' monitor space, and when im doing lineart, i use that instead of the full 32'' area to draw, just because i've use that for longer and i'm more comfortable.

If you persist and do your daily acuracy warmup practice, i believe you need like a month to get the hang of it, but just doing the warmup drawabox for around 1 hour, and then check and mark with red your acuracy mistakes. is a boring method but after a week you most likely can do it mechanicaly from memory.

what's the best screenless tablet at around $150 or less?
I've got a huion hs611 that has been perfectly adequate but the USB port(on the tablet side) is trying its absolute best to kill itself(basically need the cable in in just the right way/angle/with specific pressure applied or it disconnects), and while I could just get another they don't offer the color I had anymore and that's annoying.
at the moment I'm looking at the 11' xppen deco pro, but not really sure if there's any weird random as fuck models I'm missing or if the deco pro has weird issues.

I mean, if you already have it you might aswell experiment with it and see if it works for you, I personally prefer how you can detach the keyboard on a traditional tablet, but if this works for you then good.

Lost my apple pencil. Really annoyed

i own a hs611 and i can say, is B tier at best, due to how initial activation force on pen tech 2.0 (old) works.

wacom have less than 1 IAF, while that model prob has at least 10+ IAF. wacom works almost identical that a real life fineliner, that you only need to make contact bween the tip of the pen and the paper for it to work and trace a line.

My advice is to hunt for whatever you can find: Large intuos 4, 5, pro 2013, or pro 2017.

i recommend large for desktop with 24 or + inches, but if you are on a laptop (14-16'') medium should be fine.

new there is much more to choose , but i think they go for 200 usd. the intuos large i mentioned can easily go for 100 to 150 usd.

I keep hearing the XP Pen is good though.

Think I'm gonna sell my galaxy tab ultra. I tried to get used to it for krita (use it on pc too) and the better file system but my ipad pro is just way comfier to draw on. The tab ultra feels awkward to hold because of the size and I find I prefer the aspect ratio of the ipad while drawing despite the samsung having more room on the sides.
>>
So do the galaxy tabs have their own shitty mobile OS, or can you plug them into a real computer and use it like a reg drawing tablet

Is going from 13 to 16 a noticeable difference? I can also find cheap 22s but those might be too big.

could you elaborate on the diferences? krita is not available on ios and im not sure if on mac is usable since the arm macs seems to be unsuported.

i use a matepad 11.5 with krita on the go, and intuos pro large 2013 on desktop.

Yeah, I just use procreate and artstudio pro. Switching to pc isn't as seamless as krita but it's not too bad. Main downside is not having the same brushes. Don't have mac so no idea about that.
>could you elaborate on the diferences?
Besides my preference toward 4:3, imo ipados and the apps in general feel more polished and tablet-friendly, probably because the hardware's mostly the same unlike android. On android it feels like a lot of apps are made for phones. Not to say ipados is perfect or anything. It has plenty of quirks that annoy me (like that stupid bar on the bottom of the screen in some apps and crappy file management).
I like krita on pc but even with the s9 ultra's big screen the ui feels clunky to use. I'm surprised you manage to use it with an 11" screen.
The pens are both good but I find the apple pencil to be more responsive and have better pressure sensitivity compared to my s pen and wacom one pen. It is slightly heavier though. Can't speak for csp on either because fuck paying a subscription to draw.
