What does /ic/ thinks of Sako Toshio? Do you think he belongs in the same tier as Takehiko Inoue, Kentaro Miura or Yusuke Murata in terms of good art?
Im tired of motherfuckers sleeping on Boichi. Dude is one of the rare cases of a foreigner getting a big name manga in Shonen Jump AND an anime adaptation and nobody seems to see his genius. Also, of all this guys great art, why would you pick this Boruto looking piece of shit with a gorilla paw fromt and centre?
From a cursory glance he seems technically competent but his style feels derivative and consequently not very compelling. I can feel his influences include Death Note, JJBA and Fist of the North Star. I'd have to read his work to come to a better determination of his overall skill. >>7948004Boichi's is a real winner when he's tasked with drawing handsome men in fight scenes but not much else. His female characters are often hit or miss, especially when he's constrained to having to draw them in a nonsexual or chibi style.Beyond that though, the reason why he is not appreciated in the West is because Dr. Stone is his first semi-competent outing as a manga artist. Although the art was up to snuff with Sun-Ken Rock and Origin, Boichi's writing was so bad it became a chore to finish reading them. I hope he continues in the direction of illustrating other authors' stories. I'd like to see him do a samurai period drama personally.
