>Someone on /beg kept shilling this Hogarth and his books>downloaded the book and looked inside>A bunch of balls and blobs with weird ass rendering and anatomy that never existed in real lifeHow am i supposed to learn from this as a /beg?
>>7949191Fuck, do NOT do Hogarth as a beg! I don't know why we keep recommending it, it's too advanced for begs! Here's what you should do instead:Christopher Hart - Figure It Out Series - The Beginner's Guide to Drawing People and Human ProportionsJeff Mellem - How to Draw PeopleJack Hamm - Drawing the Head and FigureCognitive Drawing by Jason Brubakerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j3gKE9FnSU&t=56s
>>7949191he's too advanced for /beg/s
>>7949191Hogarth is the opposite of /beg/ you legit can't comprehend it if you're not at least educated enough to understand what stylization actually means and how it's used in the book.
anatomy books are all beg traps, just use an anatomy app in the year 2026.These books still had use in the 1980s now it feels pointless.
>>7949191only begs who never read it say its a beg book, this book is for advanced artists, begs cant even chicken scratch their way out a of a cube and you want to read about dynamic anatomy, not even regular anatomy, not even basic fundamental shapes, (you) want to go straight to dynamic
>>7949200>2026>listening to a womanI shiggy diggy
>>7949191You really should only be reading hogarth if you already know how to paint. His book is what you'd want you you're doing shit like pic related
his light and shadow book is pretty cool along with the clothing folds
>>7949191>beg thought he could handle the Hog>runs face first into the Firewall
>>7949200>Christopher HartLMAO
>>7949287yeah I think Hogarth would be actively bad for this guy
>>7949395why
i heard itagaki keisuke (baki) used hogarth. any sauce on that?
Does anyone actually recommend Hogarth's books? I've never heard them talked about in a particularly positive way - in fact, I've heard some pros be quite dismissive of his books.
>>7949494literally list every single person you'e heard talk about hogarth, please
I don't necessarily agree you need to meet a certain skill threshold to understand Hogarth's series, you just need the right expectations. If you jump into Dynamic Anatomy with the expectations of realistic anatomy being illustrated you will be disappointed. The anatomical illustrations in Hogarth's books are high contrast, purpose built abstractions that allow you to see, without any obfuscation, the basic shapes of different muscle groups and how they interact on the body. If you take it in through that lens I think he's an effective instructor.
>>7949191i'll be honest, his anatomy is far too stylised and that style is dated, it's not much use unless you're specifically trying to achieve an uncanny "fantastic planet" type style. if you're a beginner and just want to learn anatomy pick something else that's less stylised
>>7949550There's some video by proko when he asks other professional artists at a comic con what books they'd recommend, a recall one or two speaking negatively of Hogarth. There's more than that, but you're just trying to be coy and dismissive, so that all I'm giving you.
