The reality is that everybody draws differently, and as long as you aren't just tracing on top of somebody else's art, the end result is what matters. That isn't to say that you should avoid trying to make your drawings more precise to what you want from the get-go since it can save time and frustration, but erasing/redrawing/tweaking/layer after layering isn't anything inherently bad, nor should it be avoided if it improves your results.
