What happened to professional looking people? That not only know their shit but won't act like manchildren for a hot second?

Both you and the people in arguing against you in this thread can be right at the same time.
There can be a good number of conservative professional artists, but they may not post much or engage with social media BECAUSE of the artists you're talking about. Why go through that headache if they're already working? There's no need to get their name out their or possibly become embroiled in some bs controversy, so there's no need to have social media.

This all said, I think it's true that artists tend to be more left leaning, and in being such, that means they're more likely to dabble in the behaviours your speaking of.
I'd say it's less so much an artist thing, and more a sign of how polarised our politics are at the moment, with people constantly trying to showboat their supposed beliefs, and acting as if the beliefs are morally correct and others are actually immoral - this goes for both the left and right.

Audiences are literally too dumb to get art that isn't A. Porn or B. Therapy

There are plenty of artists who don't fall into these categories, and they get zero attention because their art does not fall into those categories. Your options are to make the slop, or be poor.

I don't know, it's bizarre. I wonder if there is any relation in this: I saw a video of an American graduating class of 1999. Not only were they very different for obvious reasons, they also looked way more grown up and adult, in ways high school seniors of today (or even 10 years ago) could simply not even compete. I wonder indeed if there is a relation that implies our society is simply very sick and plagued.
>>
>>7953392
I mean, I guess. Stonetoss is too.

Primarily it manifests as the artist reinforcing beliefs the audience already has, making them feel comfortable or empowered for things they already say and do. It's not a partisan thing, or a gender thing, or a normie thing, or whatever.

The problem lies with neglectful parenting, as most problems do.

In the past, a neglectful parent would kick their kid out of the house and their children would either go to a friend's house, hang out with children in the area, or go exploring. Then, televisions became more prominent in American households which then were used as the perfect tool to fearmonger things like the Satanic Panic, kidnappings, serial killers, and Stranger Danger. Parents became too afraid of their children being hurt by the outside world and decided to keep them inside.

This wouldn't be such a bad thing if they didn't continue to neglect their children. Parents just tossed them right in front of the television and continued to ignore them. Bad, but not the worst possible outcome: at the very least, a common culture was shared by audiences tuning in. Even if a family was atomized, the individuals still had something to share with people at work or school.

>and then the internet came along with everyone now having their own computer-television in their pocket at all times

In the past, your typical American artist would go outside and interact with people on the daily, socializing, partying, connecting. Even if they were a shut-in or geeky and autistic, at least they knew some people and read books and watched movies. But now the average American artist spends all their time indoors, totally disconnected from their own family members and community, and increasingly isolated within a digital echo chamber exclusively tailored for what they only want to see and hear. Complete and total commodification of human lives. Not even their own Self has the chance to develop and grown due to being bombarded with short-form digital media from the moment they're born. There is no opportunity for self-liberation, only finding a false identity in what has been packaged for consumption and pre-determined by think tanks and social engineering on behalf of the powers that be.

To be specific, the stereotype of the overly positive, emotionally disarming, and condescending modern artist is born from the crippling hysteria surrounding the American art scene: the fear of continuing to be challenged or disliked.

As someone who has worked with children for a long time, artistic kids never get a break, and I can see why this neurosis manifests so strongly on social media:

>other kids will constantly badger them to draw for them but then get pissy if they have to pay up
>parents don't see art as a viable career and either dismiss their children's enthusiasm, actively shit on it, or force them to do non-creative stuff
>if they don't engage with regular interests, the normie kids will begin to pick on them
>other artistic kids will show no mercy to them
>if they're autistic/LGBT, they're incredibly lonely
>sending them to a like-minded community just makes things worse
>lack of social connections makes it incredibly difficult for them to deal with conflict or tension or to become comfortable with being disliked

The end result is an adult with arrested development who hasn't emotionally matured past middle or high school and is so desperate for connection that they dishonestly hide behind a mask which only makes things worse.

It'll seem that way if all you see are retards fighting on twitter. Even on a site as infamous as Tumblr I don't see retarded Internet drama with the western artists I like. Just don't look at retards fighting. It's that simple.
