I got one of my humor comics on the front page of plebbit and got zero followers to other platforms despite putting my handle. that site is fishy as hell…

I'm a gamedev and I got a few purchases from there. Just depends on your audience.
>>
nothing weird about it
it's kinda funny, but I would just like it and scroll past

I just assume anything that's posted there is stolen

I got a couple fantasy art commissions on posts with 100-200 upvotes. I guess I'm just surprised I can get this many upvotes and not have it convert to other things. webcomics are a different beast I suppose. also from what I've read like 60% of the traffic is from bots

Go on smaller subreddits. Stuff like r/comics and r/art have passive audiences.
>also from what I've read like 60% of the traffic is from bots
That’s true for the broader places like r/pics and the ones mentioned above.

If this is the first time they've seen your work, you haven't made enough of an impression to make people want to delve deeper into your stuff. Sure, the comic gets a smirk from me, but I that's it. Your work needs to appear in front of them a few more times, or you need to make a comic that really knocks people's socks off, that'll get them to bother searching your username and tracking down your socials.

Yeah, because they're judging your art purely by the visual then and were obviously impressed enough to take action.
Your comic is neither funny enough or visually striking enough to do the same - and I don't mean that as a criticism, that's just the nature of such comics; nobody would be impressed with Peanuts after one or two strips, it's the continuous reading of them that makes you appreciate the characters and humour of it, and I imagine it'll be the same for your comics.
So you are right, they're different beasts, and comics such as these are a slower burn than a single piece of art.

Fair points. I’m just gonna go back to focusing on regular comic book art instead of trying to diversify. The most success Ive had was walking right up to Dan DiDio’s table at a convention a couple years agi and asking him to review my portfolio, and luckily I got a job from that. I’ve found that real life interactions get you further.

where do you post your art? Other then fan art for a specific game I find posting "general" art on reddit impossible/pointless.
>>

I’ve tried everywhere. r/oldschoolfantasy gave me the most commissions. r/comicbooks used to let me post but they don’t anymore. I would look up my favorite artists names in the search bar and post in the subs they’d show up in, but you’re right it is kind of pointless except for the SEO factor

Yeah I’m a plebbitor I can’t lie.

One thing I noticed in my years of just drawing whatever the fuck is some demographics, and some fandoms, are way more likely to play the social media game than others. R/comics is full of guys in their 30s and is a big sub where audience retention works, even if they think your comic is funny you won't get more than an updoot as the guy nods. Why bother following you on Twitter, the Hitler app where 4channers sodomize babies, when you draw the next one you'll post it there where it's safe too.

If you want numbers you have to identify and target people who will give you numbers, that's usually communities where the mean age is in the 14-20 range or where everyone has some sort of autism. For example, I only get a handful of likes on most of my posts but the second I draw Sonic it turns into hundreds, not because I put that much more effort or have a talent for it, it's just that for this one the audience pushes the buttons under the posts.

Why would you want an audience like that? They’re the ones who stir the most drama.

Like I said I just draw whatever I want, sometimes it's furshit or sonic, I don't care who likes it that much. Hell, half the time it's barely even a drawing, I just think "fuck, I've been drawing for years, I should be able to draw fucking Sonic the Hedgehog at this point" and I draw six of him for practice the way one would grind cubes or metal spheres. But those things still get enough likes to make me notice.

There's tons of those, I pick Sonic as an example because I don't feel like explaining what the fuck a "Nightmare Critter" is and I'm not sure myself but a lot of indie games, niche anime and weird AUs thereof act the same.

In the case of the OP, my point is he could also try posting it in other applicable subs, I'm sure it'd have fared better in r/anime for example, it'd have gotten lower updooterinos as he's a filthy gaijin but the users there might be more inclined to check the Hitler app, because clicking a fuckass link to a Japanese gallery generally rewards you with touhou 4komas or pornography and it became a habit there, stuff like that.

Reddit is useless for everything. I've tried multiple hobby communities and it's all the same grouphug faggotry where people write a lot but don't say shit.
>>
Something you gotta understand is that these people are on reddit because they don't want to go to other sites. You not going to get a following outside of reddit out of it.

should have made the cavemen pepes
