It's a game of accumulation, very few can get lots of followers with just an image or two, and usually that only happens because they have a reputation already, like being a well known animation director, or videogame artist, or something.

I use Toom Boom Harmony, the best 2D software there is imo.The good thing is that the base principles translate to any medium of animation, you can probably pick up 2D quite fast.
