ITT: only the massivest of /beg/ improvement traps.

>An art program
>An improvement trap
Even if you think the program is shit, to say it's an "improvement trap" is silly. A good artist can even make great art in MSpaint! You're just blaming your lack of skill on the tools, and not looking at your own lack of effort.

So anyway, onto the Topic of the thread:
>ITT: only the massivest of /beg/ improvement traps.
Krita.

I'm not comfortable with how grayscale and value works in this software, though I argue that their blending tools, perspective tools, and communities are probably the best in the market right now. Photoshop is way more preferrable because of its printing system and opacity layer alone.
But....... I'd take csp any day over procreate, that one is even more dangerous for /beg/ because it gives them the illusion of being able to draw, because the devs have made the program into something accessible to people that even someone who cant draw something could make a nice looking acrylic gradation in their ipad

I have been finding the filters and color tools in Krita lacking lately. Considering switching to GIMP

Damn it! Do I really have to learn how to use that program now?

the apple pencil input delay is really horrible, it feels like i'm pulling it through treacle. maybe it's good for painting, i wouldn't know, i suck at that, and maybe it's good for inking, i wouldn't know, because i can never stand the feel for long enough to produce a sketch good enough that'd warrant throwing my entire workflow at it.
at least this thing will never depreciate in value, people love apple products

Honestly the truth, I started digital and worked primarily digital, but my speed and line quality improved when I picked up traditional art. When you can't undo a line over and over, or have a perfect eraser you are forced to slow down and think about it before you irrecoverably ruin a piece.
If you have only worked in digital like me, I really suggest you sketch a bit with pencil and paper.

pen and paper and yes, it's very common advice for digital artists and it really does help
>>
>>7960897
Yes ultimately pen and paper would be better, but I'm not psychologically ready for that conversation.
>>
>>7960899
>pen and paper

Once you realize that you can draw it again it's less daunting. It's also easier when you find the areas in which you can mess up in- For example fixing the head shape by covering it in the shadows of the hair or the cast shadow by the head.

What does suffer though is your ability to do longer projects.
>>
>>7954117
I personally think CSP has the most responsive feel for lineart of every digital painting software out there. The real issue with CSP is that Celsys just stopped updating the drawing & painting features. If you look at the trajectory of the release notes it's almost all 3D, asset store slop and bloat now. The current management probably think it's "good enough" and have no interest in actually improving the software and adress the core issues that users have been pointing out for years. They just want to squeeze as much money out of it as possible.

the only reason I haven't switch off of CSP is because it has a lot of comfort and timesaving features that Sai doesn't
if CSP bothered to fix its brushes at all it would literally become the best art program overnight

Needs a third panel, feels too empty.

I think it is also older than competent AI.
Everything coded before 2026 with AI wasn't done by a developer. AI really only got useable this year.
>>
>>7954902
The older I get the more I appreciate tools.
Bad tools can kill passions. It should be illegal to sell bad paints, guitars, whatever.

My dad was a cheapskate and bought me the cheapest Temu 1$ things in existence when I was a teen.

I always considered myself cursed until I got to try real colors. A wonder I didn't give up earlier. I wonder how many artists we've lost to 1$ watercolor sets.

Inb4 I am ungrateful to my dad.
It probably would be better if he didn't buy anything, though I appreciate the spirit of it. The grey paper also sucked and immediately broke when watercolor was applied upon.

Tools matter.

Okay hear me, what you wanna do is avoiding shitty art programs like Krita, csp, sai, gimp and Photoshop

Avoid any tablet manufactured in a country

Don't fall for the draw boxes, Loomis, just draw and feel the form traps

what you wanna do is make random threads on \ic\ complaining about beg traps and permabegness. You also want to crab on random artists you find online to reassure yourself of your superiority
