didn't include it because I tend to avoid things I have to crop and I'm really just fast skimming through gallery mode and grabbing whatever catches my eye for the op.

people probably didn't really crit you because while your drawings are nice (some of them) they vary so much in style subject and effort. critiquing all of them is a hassle and drawing a clear correlation like for someone who drew 3 characters in a similar style is much harder because you can't directly compare them to each other. unless you just want a superficial x and y drawing look good which you already know yourself which ones I'm referring to (blonde and orange hair) so replying is redundant.

Now for an actual critique on the blonde swimsuit:
The ear placement looks incredibly off especially with the eyebrow reaching that far. the braided hair isn't really convincing either. That being said it is still a decent drawing some of the coloring is nice just not super exiciting that's something you could try to develop further

>the idea is to improve on something your're bad at (eventually (hopefully))

It is and studies do not necessarily need to look great, but that is usually because you're ignoring some other fundamentals to isolate the thing you're trying to learn. For me I use the studies to understand how to use the concepts being shown to me. Picrel- I had to draw a wolf for a piece and didn't want to learn all the anatomy as intimately as I know human cause (bc that'll take months/years) So I adopted the system and then tried to add it to my tool belt. The main focus was getting the concept of the system down (second was understanding the hair), so I noted what I did right so I can replicate it and things to work on next time. This is like the first one I did that's why it's in this beat up sketch book, but after I would continue to churn them out while addressing the holes I see in my logic. So I would ask; Are you understanding what you're drawing and applying it or just copying?

then maybe stop being dumb in the brain and just figure it out? figuring out how to do shit is literally the process of improving. thats how you get better at art actually.

>>
>>7956260

>>7956263
I've tried Loomis before but felt like I couldn't get anywhere.
>>
>>7956221
I like copying, it's fun and easy you don't have to worry about where the drawing is going.
You will learn something from copying , though it won't be as much from actually applying the things you've learned. I find blindly copying something useful for filling up my visual library or maintaining your skills for when I'm being lazy, but if I need to grow I need to analyze what I put down (even if my hypothesis are wrong) and stress testing it to make sure that my knowledge is solid.

If you're going to copy I think >>7956160 is better especially the head structure part. Morpho seems more of a reference for figure drawing, Also if you're just copying paying attention to the draftsmanship of who you're copying is better, especially in these types of books because they're boiling down the knowledge in to the bare bones essentials without going into rendering as much.
>>
>>7956267
I don't get what you're trying to make me understand, but I'm gonna stick with morpho since I've already started, hopping from one source to another will just lead to me not going through with any of it
>if you're just copying paying attention to the draftsmanship of who you're copying is better
no meaning to me
>>

>step 1: undersketch / lineart combo (working on a single layer it seems
>step 2: block in colors
>step 3: shading

Looks fairly straightforward to me. He's using the same brush and potentially working with changes in opacity. I don't see many changes in his brush size, however, so he might have that disabled for pressure. His color selection leans towards more muted colors too, so that could also help you. But he really embraces the singular layer look.

Because as I'm looking at it now, he's using several layers for this but I am pretty sure you could acheive this look on a single layer. His canvas also seems to be hilariously small, though I couldn't tell you the resolution. The small size helps with the pixelation I think, since larger images would just be clearer, losing the muddiness of his style. I think he's shading with black, too, and doing generally a lot of stuff most old school artists would rip your ass over. He works from big to small, bigger chunks to smaller chunks of color, refining with each layer and the like.

Was there a specific part you didn't understand?

I assume the small canvas is because he's working on an RPGMaker game and the resolution is very small.

I think I am just not understanding this method or maybe I need to try it on something more basic/understand more about rendering/painting in general?

I blocked in a base color, then set the brush to 50% opacity, picked another color, then periodically color picked the shade inbetween to soften the edge but I don't think it came out right. Your drawing there is very good.

Pick a face from any artist you like at the same angle
Finish your face.
Compare it and see where you're wrong.
If you want to add depth to the drawing you will need line thickness, color or hatching

draw both eyes at the same time, just doing one leads to bad habits. getting them both right at the same time is very important.

Bridgman or hogarth? I already know some construction and perspective and I'm moving on to anatomy. which one shall I pick?
>>

When you draw the contour lines, can you imagine your pen going in to the drawing and wrapping aroung the ball? Or did you just learn where you need to place the contours so they look right to you? Draw some balls from reference. There are website that show your randomly rotated wireframes

both are a bit more advanced if you're just getting into anatomy. michael hampton, steve huston or morpho would be a lot easier.

Here's a basic grid copy resource I made for myself when I started. Pretty much every art resource or tutorial assumes you have a basic understanding of how to accurately copy something. You try to do all these construction methods and wonder why it doesn't look like it is supposed to when you can't even draw or copy simple shapes. You smash your head against a wall with no hope of ever improving crying out why nobody can help you, but no amount of advice is gonna help or is ever going to be good enough if you can't act on it. When someone tells you to draw a sphere and to cut it in half once horizontally and once vertically and you end up with
THIS >>7956512 , I'm sorry to single you out but be assured you are not the only one in this general. Then what the fuck are you doing?

I know I know grid copies aren't super fun, but is staying a prebeg for the next 10 years or until you get lucky and it somehow clicks after smashing your head against a wall repeatedly really better than doing a bunch of grid copies for a few weeks? And No if you already know by just innately getting it or having had your breakthrough through this initial barrier already, then I am not talking to you, this post is meant for the mentally downtrodden who literally have to start at ground zero.
