What are you guys' recommendations for digital mentors? From artists you like who do paintovers of your art to ones who offer one on one classes, or anything like that. I'm looking to get better at art and, at least according to the people I've talked to, mentorships and the like seem to be the way to go, even if they are a bit expensive.
>>7959115i could never do it because im schizotypal and dont trust people, especially art teachers seem full of shit to me and hiding their actual techniques, you go for it though
Go on Twitch. A lot of adtists do this stuff for free to have content for their art streams.
>>7959155Not trusting art teachers is exactly why I'm asking for people's recommendations, so I sympathize with you on that regard.>>7959182I'll try that. Do you have any channels you'd recommend?
>>7959115Finding someone who is willing to mentor you for free that also has the skill to back it up is a big ask. Nobody does shit for free, if you do manage to find someone is willing to mentor you for free then you better appreciate it
>>7959348they clearly want to pay retard>>7959115plenty of artists offer paid mentorships/teaching, it's one of the ways they live off their art. I think there are even sites that offer this as a service. Just typing art tutor into google gives me this site called preply. Idk if it's good or not cause I literally only did a google search, but it just goes to show
>>7959350I've looked into the teachers on preply and frankly, they're not very good, which makes sense given how much cheaper they are compared to professionals. I'm just looking for personal recommendations since the mentorship options I've seen are pretty expensive and I'd hate to waste the money.
>>7959355your comment made me look into them. Yeah, wow, they're about low to mid int at best gaddamn. There's also a pretty big diff between a mentorship and tutoring i spose. Uhhh... I know Sinix has like a discord he runs where he offers tutoring and crits and stuff, it's paid, obviously, but I think that's the best thing I can think of off the top of my head. which means ull probably find more artists like him offering mentoring and tutoring with their gumroads or discords
>>7959360yeah, ik he also does like competitions between his subscribers which i think is neat, he did a little series on it a while back where he'd show their paintings and stuff off on stream and give live crits/paintovers. ig look for streamers you like on twitch, then hit them up in dms and ask about mentorship/crits. you'd be hardpressed to find an artist not wanting money in this day and age lol
>>7959115I'd do a normal course with instructor feedback (i.e. no coloso shit) with someone like hampton or peter han first and see if you can get progress that waymentorships seem very expensive if you still have room for independent growth
I have a lot of money and low art skills. If there are any recommendations for someone that can mentor me and make me a god at art, I would do it, but I want to be sure they're good and can actually get me results.
>>7959301Look for artists under 100 viewers on any fiven stream. Only ask if they're offering. There is one in particular, his name escapes me, but his icon is a chick in black and white. He does live crotiques to any viewer joining him for the first time and in his Discord server. Only thing is he hates anime art
>>7959115you should stop tracing and referencing AI
>>7959115I can teach you what I know for free if you're willing.
>>7959115Unironically just ask grok or any other AI and save your money.>This is a rough concept sketch with real potential in the character idea (muscular anime girl with a horrific "true form" or symbiote twist via the mouth and tentacle). The energy, head tilt on the main figure, and attempt at muscle definition show intent. However, as a piece from someone at high-beginner to solid intermediate level, it has several foundational problems that make it read as amateurish rather than polished or intentional. These are fixable with construction and reference discipline.>1. Proportions & Silhouette (The Biggest Problem)>2. Shoulder & Arm Construction / Integration>3. Torso & Core>4. Monster Head & Extreme Expression>5. Tentacle>6. Linework, Polish & Overall Readability>Key Improvement Tips (Tailored for Your 90-Day Challenge)>Never skip construction>Measure religiously>Targeted practice drills>ReferencesEtc, shit's too long
also lole at being high beg, grok is on drugs, obviously mid-beg.
>>7959651Eat shit
waste money then begshitter, you obviously lack a shit-ton of fundamentals, not my problem.
>>7959651Is this an actual AI-generated redline? If so, it's quite uncanny how well it captures the uselessness of most redlines.
>>7959661If that's AI I'll be a believer. Fuck the smug coping artist community... this is the critique that'll catapult me forward
>>7959115Proper mentorships, the ones that really work out, are typically those in a professional setting such as an apprenticeship. Since you would be under the employ of the mentor, your performance is aligned with his interest, or that of the studio.A private tutor is incentivized to keep you as a customer for as long as possible. A teacher is incentivized to get as many students as possible. Ignoring trolls, a fellow poster on /ic/ may be looking for an ego boost, or simply validating their methods to themselves (something I freely admit to), with the education of others being incidental. In other words, these other types of mentorship can be described with the iron triangle. Only apprenticeships can be good, fast, and cheap all at once.
>>7959632>>7959115My ability for reference. Would be fine with a study buddy too. You've probably seen me in beg at some point. Got a Discord?
>>7959701Nta, but you mimd posting yours so i can add you?
All the predominantly digital artist mentorships are super overprice. Concept art mentorships especially are just made to drain students money imo.I'll link two that I have done and found useful: (currently he's afk for health reasons)https://www.youtube.com/@RichardSmithemanArt(just email him he's nice and offers animation mentorship too)https://thesketchexperience.gumroad.com/I did to moderndayjames mentorship but I thought it was pricy ($150/hr) and he's also super flaky he still owes me a few sessions and rarely replies to my pestering. One's that I've been interested in:Mike Matesi's mentorship (might) be worth it but I think he sets you up with one of his goons so I'd look at their work more than hisexpensive but he is a legend, I've considered ithttps://karlgnass.com/NMA? affordable but I think the teachers might suck, arguably good for beginners.
>>7959701hey add me if youre fine with gay furry slop I post in beg and fag >>7956584 (no ref humblebrag)https://files.catbox.moe/foy92d.jpeg
>>7959632>>7959701I'm down, yeah. I like your stuff. Discord's megaethernal . What's yours (so I know who to accept invites from).
>>7959808I'll check those out. Thanks man.>>7959679I'm willing to take the financial plunge to a degree honestly. I think I could probably spare $200 to $300 a month. I know that's probably only like 2 classes every 30 days but that would still be a big help.
>>7959841It's MacEnroe
>>7959679Well said
>>7959814I literally that can't read that
>>7959876it looks like cyberalttype_36577 or -36577
>>7959879>>7959876cmon my handwriting isnt that bad (its underscore)
>>7959883It ain't working. Feel free to add me when you feel like it. >>7959867>>7959803you too.
>>7959891>you too.added
>>7959350>plenty of artists offer paid mentorships/teachingFucking lol, literally who? I've tried searching and mentorships almost always go back to some grifting high /beg/ low /int/ artist>>7959115I did a two week paid mentorship with a guy who was an actual industry professional. It was 400$ for about three hours of live video lecture provided to me with assignments on how to improve. I dropped it after the second week because it really didn't fit my personal goals of what I was trying to do as an artist, but I will say it was the best critique I've ever had on my art and there was actual direction on how to improve given. If I had a massive hole in my wallet to burn I'd have stayed for the rest of the course but it's no longer available because all the slots have been taken.Unfortunately, there really aren't any good mentorships except maybe atelier Proko tier teachers who only know how to teach students how to paint naked men and bowls of fruit, people who have Krenz tier teaching skills simply don't do private tutoring, at least no one who speaks fucking English.
>>7959841I think I remember redlining you once or twice
>>7959632HEY ANON, TEACH ME TOO PLEASE!!!i might not be good but i want to learn!
>>7959808What's Gnass like as a teacher? Anything I can't get through Vilppu or Huston?Don't really like his Art (seems at some point he just stopped finishing his pieces and now just sells prints of his gestures), but from the little I find on him on YouTube I do like his teaching style.
>>7959115I've seen guys that charge to "correct" your drawing and post it as a video
>>7960542At least his courses are affordable but damn I wish one day I'm "acclaimed" enough to pawn off some exercise sketch on cheap newsprint for $450
>>7960542I never took classes with him, he's just very much a standard animation style fig drawing teacher if you are into that (same as Vilppu).RIchard Smitheman was his student, so you can just get the budget version course if you subscribe to his youtube.>>7960555I mean this is gorgeous, Hogarth did the same shit of pawning off newsprint. Kinda hard to justify thought because it will degrade quickly.
>>7960552I know, but do you know any specifically that you'd recommend? For instance, I know Sinix does but he only does a paintover video once every few months which I feel like is too long of a wait between submissions.
>>7960768you should watch his streams, idk if he's as active anymore but he does a lot with his subs and discord on stream. The videos are more like content aggregation. I could just be very misleading though since I haven't watched him in a while, but watching his stream should give you an idea of what you can expect from a sub to him
>>7960154Pyw I'm really curious to see your work and how you progressed
>>7961004I'm still /beg/ so there really isn't a point in posting my work. I was just giving my personal experience.
>>7961020>>7959115I can make magma or drawpile server and we can all join and draw there and even chat too
