1st year graphic arts student here. We do traditional art as well, and while I enjoy it, I'm really struggling with acrylics in my drawing class. Do you guys have any advice, tips, or good resources to help me improve?

Yeah, quit 4chan.

get retardant medium for acrylics so you have more time to mix in canvas oil style,
also use the faster drying time to practice sfumato technique as it requires many layers on top of each other

Just to get the obvious out of the way, would you be able to draw (rather than paint) the same subject matter (either with graphite or with greyscale digital)? You can only paint as well as you can draw.

reddit meme that only applies to academic realism, many painters painted far better than they could draw, such as van gogh

Ok but OP isn’t try to be Van Gogh, she’s trying to do still lifes in a style that’s at least semi-realistic and presumably she wants to accurately represent their 3D form, so it’s worth asking how comfortable she is doing that in cases where the medium isn’t a factor.

what about the op could possibly make you think """"she"""" is going for anything approaching realism?

Is this acryilic in the image, anon? Because it seems like cardstock or something, and not a panel. Can it actually take the acryilics?
If this isn't watercolor or tempera, you didn't start with an underpainting either, and it seems too diluted.
