If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
DO NOT REPLY to crabs, nodraws, over-analyzing schizos, retards that whine about how hard drawing is or talent debates and instead focus on posted works!

>Post Your Work
HOW TO GIVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM:
>Avoid simply saying :
>"this is too long"
> "this looks bad"
>dismissing discussion with resources "needs more loomis etc."

Instead try to politely and honestly explain the issue you are seeing in detail.
Offer a visual explanation such as a redline or paint over in addition to said resource links.

Nice work anon.
Best thing I can recommend is to try to draw a cube or grid similar to Kim Jung Gi or Krenz would do and put the figure inside that "room" first before trying to draw the major shapes. That way you can get a sense of the angle and diminishment naturally

There will be no drama in this thread

Right on.
Remember guys:

>Avoid simply saying :
>"this is too long"
> "this looks bad"
>dismissing questions by simply pointing resources "needs more loomis etc, learn perspective etc"

Instead try to honestly explain the issue you are seeing in detail. You can honestly both praise the good points and point out what could use more improvement without being a jerk about it. If somebody effort into presenting their work to you, then you should put effort into trying to help them succeed, as most people are here to genuinely learn.

Redlines and paint-overs are the absolute best thing you can do to help, but it's okay if you can't provide one.
Alternatively, giving a clear, concise and detailed review of the work can still be helpful as well!
I look forward to seeing all of your work.

You will never have another witty artist like egoraptor or Cap-tan.
At best you will have 2-3 faggots with abhorrent dogshit taste posting in here and still being /int/ despite wasting years if not decades drawing. You will have shitty brazilians stealing those artstyle in the same way nerfnow stole cap-tan art (nothing changed with the brs i guess, still shitty people)

All because the only thing you want is to circlejerk and to not hurt someone feefees. That constructive enough or no? If you ain't getting paid then there's absolutely no reason to be reddit towards others.

Normally a guy would have much thinner legs and hips than his torso, yet his hips are about as wide if not wider than his very broad shoulders. His head is much smaller than usual too. If you want to sell the low angle, widen the body as it comes lower to the knees.
1) You can draw some straight lines on his body treating it like a box to roughly figure out where the the horizon line is. Use that horizon line to build a grid and your mannequin from there. Then you can replicate that same perspective grid off to the side as you try and draw a female version of the pose off within that to get a better sense of below.
This is just a rough guess that I'd have to spend much longer to be sure on, but I personally think it would be 3 point with the left VP far away off screen, one VP right in between his legs and then a vertical convergence upwards.
2) Understanding the body converging in a box and general tilt/alignment, I can see that your arms are also too short comparatively to his as you shortened the ribcage too much. I would also try to draw a mannequin over the original image ignoring the cloth to figure where things sit so you can see how long that torso and hips and legs really get.
For a woman, the hips, and legs would be even wider than for him as the perspective distortion would magnify those curves. Your main problem is that you didn't draw with a grid in mind and exaggerate the lower body's width change and overlap onto the upper body enough.
I don't have time for a full redline but hopefully my explanation and visuals can help you.

i guess what i do is a clicking motion with my mouse, i dont hold the lmb down when drawing a line. on trad i guess i lift my pencil for a fraction of a second. again, this is nothing i consciously came up with, i just happened to develop the habit in that manner for whatever reason i believe its a bit like the "searching line" technique, where you draw 5 perpendicular lines to find a good one. but instead i stop inbetween the line to "feel out" where to go next.

Can someone recommend art programs lighter than Krita? It stutters every time I pick a brush and it's extremely hard to do strokes because it's way too laggy. Granted I have a very slow computer but I'll use anything as long as it's free and has layers.

Yeap, that's a pretty lacking machine right there, anon. You will have performance issues with any or most programs out there to be quite honest. Ironically painting software doesn't require a very powerful machine at all. A low to mid tier level machine can run any art program no problem, even with out a graphic card. Maybe you should focus on getting a good enough pc, an i3 with 8GB of ram should be the starting base of your setup. You will run Win 10 perfectly fine, but I don't know if that's good enough for Win11 though.

I draw muscular women a lot. If you want to get into anatomy I'd say just pick a limb or body part, look up reference pictures on pinterest and just copy them. And don't be afraid to look up references while drawing stuff from angles you're not used to.

Right now I'm working out of Xiao Weichun's Human Anatomy for Artists https://e-hentai.org/g/3412406/96f1edcc4d/
If you mean all of the books/resources I've used, I started out with the Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain workbook to teach me the basics of observation and then did Dorian Iten accuracy exercises (with tracing paper taped to my screen since I was working in trad) every day for months, the first half or so of Hampton's Figure Drawing Design and Invention, a big chunk of Yoh Yoshinari's Tezuka Rough Sketches, a bit of Morpho Simplified Forms, random tutorials on pinterest, and brokendraw's 25 exercises PDF (I use whatever exercise I feel I need to work on for my warm-up in the morning). This is along with copying a ton of anime/manga/art I like and drawing from life. I also did Draw a Box years ago but quit drawing shortly after finishing the box challenge.

that other anon isn't talented, you're just retarded
>>
>>7964336
At the very least they're good at copying from Weichun's Human Anatomy book. It's a pretty good book that made me progress in my own skills. They also seem to have a knack for spatial understanding, but I forget if those are the skulls that they have on one specific page when talking about how to draw skulls, or if the anon drew them all via the method taught.
>>
>>7964342
I think those skulls are copied from the page introducing skulls, it looks very familiar. Important with books like this is that you're actually internalizing the concepts they're teaching otherwise you're just relying on rote memorization when you should be learning the mechanics of how skull structures all have the same landmark features which that book does talk about. It's a bit more of an advanced book, but it's good for learning how to do advanced stylization/creature/character design and stuff
>>
>>7964342
Is the book kind of like Bridgman or Loomis?
>>
>>7964342
Most of them are copies from the book but the pile of skulls at the bottom here >>7964063 are from the methods taught
>>
>>7964344
I consider it to be like a progression of Morpho's simplified forms. It does lean in some principles similar to bridgeman and loomis, but vaguely. The way weichun goes about teaching with his mannequins and concepts is very structural. So you need to have a solid understanding of construction and perspective before really gleaming anything of benefit from it.
>>
>>7964327
I know. Feelsbad
>>
>>7964345
In that case, very well done! Better than my own attempts with the method when I did it a couple years ago. I find it funny though that both me and you unprompted by the book did a very similar exercise in concept execution. Well done anon, if you continue to approach the book as you are now you'll have a very solid base by the end of the year. Only real advice to you now is to just be weary of burnout, cause Weichun's book can get pretty rigorous depending on how far you take the concepts they're teaching. The way he teaches is very much not hand holdy, just explains a concept, shows a few examples, and then you have to do the rest yourself
>>
>>7964349
Thanks anon. I think I've got a good feedback loop between drawing what I like, studying what I need to improve, and applying it to keep me motivated, but I'll also be taking it a bit easier for about 10 days starting tomorrow so hopefully I won't get burnt out too soon. I actually really like how rigorous it is, it's challenging, but I'm at the point where I need something hard and I'm enjoying it
>>
>>7964359
>I'm at the point where I need something hard
amen brother
>>
>>7964271
It would be very funny.
>>
>>7964359
Good on you. The way he approaches the body is like if you apply an industrial design mindset to the human body, so if you stick with it, you'll come out the other side understanding the mechanics of how the human body's forms interact with eachother. If Morpho's is teaching you how to build the body with simple form and gesture, Weichun's is teaching you the how those forms work together to create movement and weight and how to add complexity to them. I really like his book because he shows how the design of the human body is actually extremely common in nature. So if you learn the mechanics of a human body work, you can apply it to create anything you'd like. Can even translate it to mecha and the like. You'll get as much out of it as you put in, so best of luck

Thank you so much anon! Please forgive me for my grotesque artistic sins. I'm quite aware of what I throw out on the canvas, when is pretty, or when is ugly, or when is edgy, I know how it looks like, but it's part of the fun to see what random thing comes out combining all of that in terms of weird anatomy or random designs.
>>7964243

You're right, I just scribble stuff in one go hinting at the thing most of the time. That hand is like a rough sketch, that 's the "quantum stage" of the hand lol. I don't know yet if the thumb should be coming on top or touching her chin, but I like how it looks in general and the gesture, it should need a final redraw to put the fingers in the right place.

Oh, taste is first and foremost subjective, and what I find most admirable about your work is that it's unabashedly you, like a crystallization of your being, spilling out onto the canvas. It's polarizing and won't always get the most welcome reception, but it's yours, and that's something that I think only becomes more and more invaluable as art homogenizes towards consumerist slop. So it's not always my cup of tea, but I can appreciate the blend.

comics do tend to foreshorten the torso, but they make up for it by bringing some of the limbs (especially the hands) to the foreground, or have the head face the viewer

You should never spend that much time on a single drawing as a /beg/. You are being held back by lack of knowledge. If you try to draw the same thing a few times and it’s not working then you need to stop and do some studies and figure out where the gaps are.
I’m speaking from experience, I honest to god spent multiple months working on individual drawings and I learned absolutely nothing from it.

Eventually you'll get tired of over rendering because you'll need to do smaller "studies" and force yourself to stop at a certain point.
Over rendering is a good curse though, and better than the opposite which is being stuck in sketch hell.

Not the previous anon, but here a couple of suggestions:

- if not constrained by your hardware, try upping the resolution and/or dpi of your canvas or using a smaller brushsize; if you’re not setting out to do pixel art, the pixels of your brushstrokes should not be as visible as they are in this piece

- even without the text, the image lacks visual hierarchy and composition; the background (which I am assuming is a screenshot of something?) is too detailed and draws the eye away from the figure in front; you could fix this by either adding detail to the character (even just adding shading might make a difference) or making the background less detailed by blurring it or taking out the value contrast

- some of the form/anatomy looks a bit odd (the torso area and characters left arm look okay, but for instance the way the chin meets the hair on the characters right side or the right forearm/hand lacks defined shape to me); this is just something you will inevitably develop a feeling for if you continue practicing, but doing occasional anatomy studies mixed in with personal pieces will speed this development up considerably

Anyway, best of luck :)

This one is tough. When it comes to selling video game assets, rendering and delivering workable outputs are extremely important. How are your rendering skills?

Besides video games, mecha is a very niche market, and people tend to be more interested in figurines and models than drawings. However, I can maybe see an opportunity in selling blueprint-style illustrations.

If I were you, I would try creating a simple shooter game using Construct 3 or redot/godot something very bare bones. That way, you can get familiar with what's needed to create art for video games.

yeah, thank you. Glad to see it wasn't for nothing. I guess I could have tried to exaggerate their postures a little bit more since they are all standing in almost the same way. But basically, the guy with glasses tries to be as plain as possible to hide the fact he's a wizard, since those used to be burned alive. The archer is brooding and vengeful. The bard is friendly as a way to compensate for his flaws, and the fighter pretends to be the monster everyone thinks he is as a way to protect himself from others

Honestly I might be too green for that. It's been years since I made a digital drawing so I can't evaluate how wrong this is. I think I got the upper body right..? I like the shoulders. Iffy on the rest.
It's just the sketch phase so it has room to improve, but if it's wrong since here I might as well ask you guys first.

Agree with the other anon, this looks amazing and has a lot of character, especially the clothing. I think the problem with the expressions is that all 4 look samey next to each other, 3 out of 4 are pouting in pretty much an identical way; if if was any 1 of them in a solo picture instead, it wouldn't be a problem at all IMO.

>>
>>7964994
try redrawing the pose to better define the line of action, a pose usually involves the entire body, but her lower body seems to be facing the camera while the upper body is facing away. That's not impossible, of course, but her current pose seems too relaxed for that, she is not suddenly turning to face a threat or something. Try watching a few tutorials on figure drawing. It works wonders. Everything can be simplified into basic shapes to make poses and proportions easier

Yeah on the bottom fighter, you tend to bring that part of the subject a little to far forward, or the left part that is too far back. But I seen that same problem on other drawings like with a tank you drew. Its just a nitpick.
Yeah I don't see anything wrong with the robot. The shallow angles tend to be easier to make mistakes since they effect the perspective more because the angle is pretty shallow compared to the angle of the robot (the camera is higher).

>>
>>7965266
The colors look extremely washed out. Did you just paint on top of the white canvas with a semi transparent brush?
>>
>>7965261
Very cool, I think it's a lovely piece. There's no barrier to entry for commissions, you should start them as soon as you want and can find clients.
As for crit, the hands are too small in relation to the arms and head, and the head is a tad too big for the body proportions (unless you're going for a younger character, in which case the body would be too tall). The perspective is a bit wonky in that the floor and shoes suggest a low horizon / eye level, while the torso and neck imply a higher eye level. For painting, you should make a stronger separation between the areas hit directly by moonlight vs the ones hit by reflected light. Right now they are too close in value.

Well it only takes 1-2 days to hit bump limit but threads stay on the catalog for a week. If we just made threads as fast as possible then we’d fill up the catalog with /beg/ threads. I think waiting until page 8 is reasonable

On Discord, you didn't get the invite?

That, and also killing a thread is cruel to anons who posted their work and are just waiting for someone to give them a critique or a simple reply to cheer them up

i don't know how to actually color, so what i did is i picked a base color that seemed close to the original and colored in the lines and then after that i made another layer to try to use a darker version of the color to "shade"

You either need to learn how to draw feet enough to make the entire piece coordinated, or crop them out entirely. The way you drew them are distractingly lower quality than the rest of your beautifully rendered piece (footfag please die), but when someone goes to like your post or retweet it whatever, that's the last thing that is going to be burnt into their mind since it sits above the typical place people type responses or make actions on a piece they're interested in.
>>7965453
Seeing others that "make it".

>>7965460
Holy kek that's
THAT'S THE REFERENCE PIECE? samefag but holy shit I can't believe other people out there are having their shit referenced and are having these issues. orz I thought this was the loli guy that posts here.

>>
>>7965166
there are mistakes. But damn. I do really love this.
>>
>>7965462
reference doesn't mean copying it, you still have to solve the piece and the construction, it's like the hardest part of the process retard kun
>>
>>7965446
that reference also has some of the same problems, especially the feet like the other anon mentioned (and some of the shapes are very flat, like the bag)
if you're going to copy someone, make sure they're a professional

It's good but... it took 12 hours? What part of your process do you think took the longest? I can imagine this happening in maybe 4 hours if you had a thumbnail sketch ready on the side to reference...? Maybe we can help you with your work flow or something.

nta the glow in the figure is too light. The moon is acting as the strongest light source in the scene and is behind and above making for a rim light around the figure. The reason yours doesn't work is because it eliminates the terminator and violates the boundary between light and shadow. The glow spilling from the rim light that you see in the shadow or as a result of some other effect should not be lighter or as bright as the lit side of the figure (which we can only partially see since the light is behind it). You need to be more intentional with how you use the airbrush.

>composition
The arrangement of the elements is fine, but the values are not working as well.

Composition should serve the story context. For me, it's more interesting to see the explosion first and then discover the source of that carnage. Because of that, I would make the left side brighter while keeping the robot spider's shape darker. You could also use the laser as a guide that leads the viewer into the darker side of the image.

Additionally, you can increase the saturation of the blue characters. Since blue is naturally a dark hue, it can be pushed further in saturation without hurting the value structure, making them easier to read.

Edit to illustrate what I mean, it's just a quick adjustment of the color balance and contrast.

>>7964992
I think the poses are fine, it's just the faces that, for my taste, are too small, which makes their expressions hard to read.

Thank you! I tried to integrate your comments into fixing it. The proportions I'll have to live with it, I myself was confused. I based it on a girl I know who LOOKS tall but is actually short, confusing thing. So I made her 6 heads tall while having tall people proportions or something. Call it a quirk of nature.

>>7965510
ACK I GOT MOGGED. Honestly I kinda knew I could make her much darker, but I wanted to keep the "base character" without changing her color too much, as it was my first time drawing her. Why choose a moon background then, indeed.
I just made her bluish to represent shadow.

Full picture here because fk it I made it 3000 px tall, I have to show it.

That's just disingenuous. If someone doesn't get replied to within an hour of posting it's not going to get replied to. It's not cruel to anyone. Half the time they just repost o new the new thread and still don't get replied to. Are you saying people are cruel for not caring? What? Do you suggest everyone get one guaranteed (you)? Give me a fucking break

If you're using the box method of constructing cylinders, make sure that the edges of the cylinder line up with the edges of the box and go to the same vanishing point. In this one for example, you can see that the green edge of the cylinder does not converge with the red edges of the box
>>
>>7965533
It's more likely to be an issue if someone makes a new post like 5 minutes before a new thread gets created. Then you might genuinely be robbing them of replies. I do think that's part of why discussion slows down as the thread gets older, people would rather just wait for the new thread so they can generate the maximum amount of discussion on their posts.

idk what you're going for with her design, but the skull structure you gave her is inherently masculine. So to preserve that kind of warrior skull structure, you just exaggerate her feminine features, like give her thicker eyelashes. Her forehead was also too pronounced. I also made her brow ridge slightly less pronounced by just removing the defining top lines.
