I was drawing every day for like three weeks back in 2023. Posted in /beg/, bought right side of the brain and made an account to post on draw every day(dad) and then I just stopped Why?
Like right now I want to go pick up my pencil and old sketchbook. But instead I'm gonna jack off and make food. Why?
>>7964086the human brain needs a good reason to burn energy and do things. At first the reason for drawing is to learn and explore new things as well as express yourself in new ways. After a while that starst to fade and become the baseline so you need new reasons to draw. Exploring new topics and drawing in new ways while getting better.
>>7964086>draw every day(dad)
you thought it would keep going automaticallyit did notyou need to actually do it. as in use your brain, move your body to the page, and consciously move your hand. every day. it's not an automatic process.
>>7964086(You)s pleases you more than drawing
>>7964086It's a motivational meme. But if you check MIT OCW course's youtube playlist, the drop-off of views from 1st to 2nd video is drastic. Most people quit. For various reasons.
>>7964108I actually meant draw art daily but evidently I forgot what is called and had a Freudian slip
because you're a stupid niggernow fuck off
>>7964086>then I just stopped>Why?You tell us.
When I get tired of drawing, I just start working with colors. Coloring makes it much more fun.
>>7964086I don't know. Did you do any soul searching? Did you ask yourself how you felt drawing? Did it not leave you with satisfaction. Do you have words for how drawing mates you feel? Do you even know what it's like to do something and feel satisfaction? Is that a feeling you're capable of recognizing?
>>7964086reason you quit was>no idea what to draw>you are exhausted>too afraid to draw>you lost passion for it>etcjust make own character. it's good to restart
>>7964086You need to move past the inspiration phase into discipline phase, until it becomes a habit (typically 3 months of consistency solidifies a habit) at which point the resistance and inertia for studying or creating is lowered enough to where you're more likely to just keep at it if you don't give your brain reasons not to. Unfortunately, we live in a world where dopamine spikes regularly. dopamine drives desire, habit, and learning. Due to the abundance of dopamine causing activities, your brain experiences massive spikes followed by deep dips below your normal baseline, creating a temporary neurochemical deficit. So rather than what your brain would naturally do, which is allow baseline dopamine to drive it towards gratification from less exciting activities like reading or drawing, your brain fixates on what will provide the biggest immediate spike just to pull itself out of that deficit. In other words, even if you form a habit, you're fighting a world and algorithm that is optimized to milk you with dopamine as its carrot on a stick.
should've bought a left side of a brain as well
>>7964088tl;dr You're bored. Mix it up.>You draw for a while. >You think you're successful at it in some way. >Silent signs of boredom show, but you push them away and continue. >Your brain sets in to routine (it needs new stimuli), and you think your art looks terrible. >Perceived stagnation>You're stuck with your high expectations of yourself that you're no longer able to live up to. >You partake in behaviors chosen to help you not think about how much of a failure you are >Masking behavior has a negative stigma in your head (Gaming, masturbating)>Masturbating removes any instinct to be productive. Once a week is good, any more than that is excessive.>You feel like even more of a failure with each passing day not doing the thing you believe you want to.>You continue to ignore the boredom of what you're telling yourself you should be doing.>Perpetual negative cycling ensues Break the negative cycle by doing something you think is healthy but different for a few days. Forget about drawing entirely. Let your brain/imagination run in a different direction. Ne wary of over-inflated expectations like drawing for another 3 weeks. Try learning about a new subject while taking notes, read books, a little exercise, walking, do 10 push ups every 30 minutes... just something new to get you feeling generally positive. P.S. I like answering these because advising on the misery of others helps me fix my own misery. Have a good day.
>>7964086/Dad/ doesn't help you draw it just demotivates you when you realize the top 3 pages are people in a discord circlejerk and the mods bend the rules to make sure their friends never lose their streak. Don't feel like drawing? It's ok you have a month to uupload. Lose your streak anyway? Don't worry mods just reinstate you whenever you want. Eventually you realize you are just legitimizing a discord cabal. If it's your first artoid community you may drop doing art altogether.
>>7964467>just make own characterI couldn't do it before, I can't do it now>>7964537your advice doesn't help
>>7964664You ever thought about just giving up?
>>7964664>I couldn't do it before, I can't do it nowHoly fucking Howie. Go have a wank then, you'll feel better.
>>7964668Yes, often, but I can't.>>7964672>HowieNot howie>>7962153
>>7964680>anime girlI don’t get it. He tried to draw an anime girl and he did it. There’s too many autists on this board that overthink shit.
>>7964686Whats to get? He's a troll starved for attention.
>>7964686>he did itNo, I couldn't. After many years of drawing, I can't even approach the level of those who draw less than me but are talented.
>>7964700So essentially you’re just trying to copy other people down to a T. That’s something a high schooler would do.
>>7964475
>>7964537OP here, thank you anon
>>7964651You've seen this?
>>7964651Damn. Seeing /dad/ in a new light
