Shit man.
>>
I'm kind of retarded. I want a way to tell the world, "I'm here", you know, I thought art was the best way, maybe not

I don't expect it to be easy, but it shouldn't be so frustrating, no?

Grind shapes, arcs, lines, and forms. Copy from comic books. Draw from life. Get into the habit of continuous line drawing. Trace meaningfully. Actually "use" references by performing the exercises from DRSB and the Cognitive Method. Break down your references into shapes and forms. Draw your ref from memory but from various angles.

That's how you improve at drawing. Pick a single subject to study for a few days or a whole week to execute these techniques on, then use your subject in a project, and finally move on to something else that's related to it.

As an example, if I want to get better at drawing hands:

>grind some squares and rectangles first
>do blind contours of hands
>do a silhouette/positive space study of hands
>do a negative space study
>trace a reference of a hand
>break down hand refs into simple shapes and forms
>observe hand, then draw from memory, then draw while looking at hand, and compare the two drawings
>study the skeleton of the hand, break it down into simple shapes and forms

That's it.

Thank you, I'll try again but I'll take a break for a day or two to cool my head. I wish I had it in me to just austically draw nonstop, I just want that flip to switch

As someone who was in a similar position, don't worry. What you want to do is build stamina. Drawing is a lot like working out in that way. If you draw for 5 minutes a day for a week, you can build the stamina to do it up to 10 minutes. Then to 30 minutes. Then to an hour, and so on. It's all about pacing yourself and giving your brain time to heal and grow.

Eventually after a year or two of dedicated focus, you can draw non-stop. Make sure to grip your pencil the right way, though.

And that is?

As Fluharty said drawing is seeing.
You need to train your observational skills and you level up. You mostly draw like this because even if you can imagine thing or two in your head when it comes down to paper it just vanishes... you try to draw hand but you don't know shape, anatomy of it, perspective anything.

Observe and learn that's how people who did art before learned it. How shapes change based on distance, on height relative from you, the form of the object it's colors and shadows... once you build enough in your library and train you will be able to draw.

Multiple ways, depending on which feels best: the "painter grip", the tripod grip, the tip heavy overhand grip, etc.
