Are there really people on this board who cannot even draw forms this simple from imagination without a reference?
>>
>>7970925
nope. they are just pretending. it's called performance art.

i don't have an imagination, i usually just start drawing boxes at weird angles and then i draw things within the boxes at the angle the box is in. sometimes i get art out of it, sometimes i don't

I can't even draw what I see. I've been stuck on permabeg mode since 2023. Betty edwards is useless if you're a sperg like me. plus, not even brent eviston courses helped me.

im helpless, but at least i try. could be worse.

That ones easy, look.

Foreshortening is just taking a difference between two identical diemnsions

2 inch apple becomes another, smaller, farther away, but still 2 inch apple. The distance between the to is your "Focal Length" assuming they are idnetical .

Your brain does a lot of interpolation.
>>
>>7970925
most people can't, its unnatural to be able to see the world for what it is. Our eyes INTERPRET what we see and our brains try to make sense of it. Drawing is not natural.

>its unnatural to be able to see the world for what it is
For me this only applies to complex things, especially faces. Boxes and cylinders are just boxes and cylinders. Even if you can't imagine one in your head you should somehow know what a circle and rectangle are.

Some people find it easier to work dark to light for this exercise. I know I did when I first started.
>>
>>7971362
I don't think "imagination" means "lock yourself in an airtight room with no references whatsoever", I think it really just means "original piece that didn't exist before". So it might be a combination of multiple existing references. What's the point of being an artist anyway if you're not creating original pieces?
>>
>>7970925
Yes that would be me
>>
>>7971258

i wanted to learn how to draw because i have no imagination. i can still come up with creative concepts, i just can't experience them visually when they're in my head.
>>
>>7971414
You're goated
>>
>>7970925
I think you should be able to draw every single basic object from imagination from every angle without issues, also things like flowerpot, bottle or simple fence it's something you should be able to draw without references.
>>
>>7971368
many ppl dont use references
using refs is not drawing from imagination
it could be partly drawn from imagination maybe if you dont follow the ref closely
>>
>>7972537

references are important for getting small details right, like buttons on clothes or color schemes. ideally, you should be using a reference to more accurately draw an original design.
>>
>>7972584
what does this have to do with what i said you fucking retard?
i often use references myself
i just said that there are people who don't use them (and they often still can paint very well)

>>
>>7970925
It's worse than that. I can't draw them even if I sculpt them myself out of clay, and have them right in front of me. If I could draw that thing in the top right in particular, I think I could use that as a springboard to figure out a lot of other things, but I'm not really clear on how to get there. Making a lot of aimless attempts that all fail for reasons I can't grasp doesn't really feel like it's helping.
>>
>>7973101
Well at least you're treating it sincerely.

If it makes you feel better I did include that one to show off, it gave me hell for a VERY long time, but its early in Vilppus book for a reason, it's very fundamental.
Its a lot like meditating or endurance training. It's a mind over matter type problem, not a math problem or effort problem.

an exercise i'm not sure if i just made it up or heard it from somewhere that helped me with that was drawing a train of cylinders trying to make it weave through the page 3-dimensionally. it helped me get a better feel for how the changing scale of the ellipses on each side of the cylinder give the perception of depth.

bro if I'm easily the worst artist in this board then you should be able to do it easily. seriously. even I can do basic shapes and nonsense and things. It's all just shapes, blobs, and forms that you gotta mold into stuff.

like a few random shapes, squares, blobs can all easily interconnect into shapes like puzzle pieces.

I don't know how to know if I'm contouring or actually drawing forms, personally. My boxes are also really pathetic but I just refuse to do Draw a Box, that shit made me give up on art when I first tried it
>>
>>7976076
It's good to put your foot down on this.

But as a simple example of the purpose, the mouse you referenced is leaning to HIS right. His right ear is closer to his right paw, (here i am using 'right' to refer to the dominant hand in the majority of humans)

But in the rotation, he's leaning to his non dominant side.

How did you fuck that up?? Cuz that's way more important for "Feeling the form" than drawing nice boxes.

Does that make sense?

I’ve been self diagnosed with stage 3 aphantasia it’s not my fault.

Diagnosed by a Jew I bet.

Kikes created aphantasia to keep the goyim trapped in their media market. If nobody else can make pictures from their ideas then you control what ideas they can picture....

And foids love having an excuse to give up early. Lazy cunts.

>>
>>7982150
Believe me or don't but its not about the number of times, it's about the quality of the time.

The quality goes up the more mental effort you put into per-conceiving the form. Most people need to do 1000 drawings before they rack up 100 total seconnds of "Thinking before they draw". Most drawing schedules make this problem worse.
