I was just thinking today about how we used to have these threads and I hadn’t seen one for a long time.
You’ll probably get more serious responses though if you include a brief rundown of the ranking scale and the criteria.

Pretty good honestly, but I feel like that shading style does nothing but hamper the quality of your stuff, perhaps try cell shading or just focus more on practicing shading in general cuz so far it makes a pretty good looking drawing look dirty.

This is the drawing i finished last night. I suck at giving feedback but I'll try to rate some other people's.
>>7973822
Cute style, those girls on the bottom row are especially cute and pretty. Are these characters you draw regularly, or were you just kinda riffing?
>>7973826
Nice facial variety and use of color. I can practically hear their accents just by looking at them, which I feel like you have to be doing something right when people can literally hear what you're drawing sounds like, if that makes sense.

I'll try to rate more as the thread grows.

IDK man the markmaking is awful. And the foreshortening is not strong at all. So I don't see any tridimentionality. I would study drawabox all over again. But yeah the anatomy is somewhat readable. The proportions are kinda iffy. I would do dynamic sketching. But only for the markmaking. The lines are wobbly!

I think the main problem with your art is that you have these very excellent small, detailed speed lines and hatching going in the shadows and a fuzzy textured brush around the edges of soft materials or to add shadow detail, and it's all very natural and organic, but THEN you have these scratcyh, thick black lines that make things feel flat. Not because the linework is flat - it's quite good - but because it's really conflicting with the subtler touches. This is most noticable around the shoulders in the top right panel.
>>

Hmmm idk, i feel like the contrast works well, if I brought the saturation down, the whole image would end up very dull. I tried a colour scheme more rooted in reality but it didn’t work well. Besides, I’m not even sure I’ll work on this ever again honestly, I already spent a full week on it, gotta move on. But I’d like you to show me what you’d do on it if you have the time to change the Colors, always cool to see how others would change your work :)

It's got a very solid foundation but it's a little rough around the edges. The thumbnail looks very good, it only suffers once you open it at full size and you can see the blending's a little rough and the values aren't quite right, and some of the shaping of the face is unconfident.

These are signs of a lack of experience, not a lack of know-how. You keep going.

Oh yeah it's awful!
I read it at the beginning of January last year and instantly fell in love, and yes the last 1/3rd is terrible. Which is a shame because I feel that's when the series' style really began to solidify into something great, visually.

I keep a lot of Beastars screenshots on my computer to remind myself that art doesn't necessarily need to be "good" to be compelling. Paru was younger then then I was now, and she was able to make something that really compels people, and she didn't moan and complain about how it's "not good enough" - she just did! I'm sure I - and you - can do that too, as long as we're passionate enough.

I really enjoyed seeing the art improve over the two years the manga ran for, and the anime adaptation was genuinely good, I was surprised it worked this well. Yes, but that's because it isn't a high bar. Your shading looks like chicken scratch, and not intentional.
The values are muddied by it. You would benefit from proper, well done hatching, or screentones. The last panel could be exceptionally nice if not for the bad rain. Some of your hatching looks better there too, unlike the first panel

If you can make a page like this you can make enough to fill a single comic. That's more than like 90% of people. Skill will come along the way. Keep it up. I like your work!
>>
>>7977289
If I could click only on thumbnail in the thread it'd be this one.

The weather comes across really well in your top frame, the driving rain and the wet streets. The lamps aren't on and so it feels like something bright up ahead is illuminating everything, but if this were true, the hotel sign and lamps would throw shadows.

The bottom three convey the weather but the figure doesn't change much. I don't know why he's shown three times. Passage of time? Did something catch his attention and he's looking up slightly? Too subtle for me, but maybe I'd get it in context.

Good luck with your comic.

Thanks! I mostly do figure drawings so glad people notice. Mostly the advice I give for understanding figures better is spacial understanding is super important. So which planes of an object/figure is in sight, this is where box figures help. Then the more advanced version of that is understanding how organic shapes overlap and interconnect with each other.

the cunny should be higher / different curve on the belly and it would be 1) anatomically consistent 2) hotter, the foot thats mostly not visible should be higher than the one in front, less important because its a cartoon and i just came across a bull splattered on ground with one symbol drawn hoove coming out of its penis and thats /pro/ art but the arm in front is wonky, nobody but you should figure out for you what you want to do with the arms and shoulders

the shading is strange and the hair's details arent convincing

but the face is great yeah i dont understand why everybody can do these flat cartoon faces so well and i cant for the life of me
>>
>>7977708
interesting, what about this one, my drawings are highly inconsistent so I want some opinions on them
>>
>>7977712
the leg in the back has the problems mentioned above, 1) its shorter than the leg in front 2) i understand its internally rotating but at that angle the ankle should show up right above the front thigh, and the internal rotation is a weird choice in the first place

the arm in the back is wonky like it isnt really attached to anything, mostly because the shoulder when driven back and changing the angle of the collar bone rotates about the body and thats not there if thats what you meant to do

she doesnt have a lat muscle, the neck has unrealistic range of motion

it looks good because the the lines are very appealing and the skin looks nice (watch out for the white background) and the details are convincing

but like all of this text is just to say that 1) you should be conscious of your brain internally applying perspective distortion to things and consider the actual distortion of what you are drawing, 2) be mindful of anatomical details like the neck, if a sketch doesnt look good (which happens even if its correct all the time) just make another, you should keep in mind what was appealing about the idea you had if you are working off of an idea that came up naturally and look for those things in the next sketch
3) the consistency problem isnt related to these issues, they are just completely different images even if they share characteristics like thick thighs/calves and cartoony faces
>>
idk how i missed this while writing all that but did you copy the hue shifting style from other artists, hues and everything? you should review your knowledge of light because the cat girl has got saturation and value management all over the place even if you are going from a dark yellow/orange to a tinge (just a little bit) of purple, purple isnt even the complementary to orange and with redder hues you want very low saturation on the tinge of complementary you use
>>
and by the way if you anybody told you that color theory doesnt matter, the skin looks as great as it does because you have nice tinges of yellow and cyan going on in the highlights and shadows, thats all the primaries!!
>>
and green, whoever reads this: green is important because its just as important as the primaries for how the brain processes color, i am making a mistake sharing this crucial bit of information with fellow members of the rat race but whatever i had a good day so i am doing good things

blog over i guess??

thanks for the breakdown, quite helpful.
I have no clue where I got the hue shift from, just tried to emulate the technique.
Honestly sometimes I think of dropping rendering and focusing on lines because I'm never happy with how I rendered things and honestly I often think it even detracts from what I have drawn. I just wish I could find a way to render that would click with me.
Sometimes I think it looks quite okay like here

and sometimes it feels muddy like in here

witnessed

the first image (lycanrock?) if you squint away the small highlight shapes still looks great, in the pikachu image they are the main way you convey the highlight, i dont think the pikachu image is bad at all, these both look better than what you posted in the thread, and the beach background looks *really* good actually, and the pikachu is doing a great job of covering the whites which dont really add much

here is (yet another) project i finished 80% and then moved onto the next thing because dopamine ran out.

this is my first attempt at actually drawing the exterior of a ship by hand, instead of using another artist's sketch or a 3D model and drawing schematics on top of that.

the interior doesn't really look trek to me, but i'm happy with how it turned out.

Hair isn't just a skullcap with a jagged edge. If you think of your locks (lock meaning here a group of individual hairs that flow in the same direction) as individual springy masses with beginnings and ends you'll draw more natural-looking hairstyles. Where does each bundle start on the head? What path does it take from that starting point? Is it curly or straight or coiled and how does that shape stretch as it hangs?

Most manga drawing guides tackle this subject in some fashion.
>>
>>7978351
anime style has zero care about natural looking hairstyles, its an obviously stylized form of art that does have more roots in cartoony appearances and disney and a lot of manga skip trying to get a natural look and go for stylized (90s-00s shounen art was a lot of times like this), it reminds me a lot of TWEWY art.
>>
>>7978320
Reminds me of the art on salt & sanctuary, could easily be a new class. Not bad for a speed paint, maybe try to look at some suits of armor for reference if you want a lil bit more detail, 6.5/10.

was doing it with zero reference and just imagination and limited palette, realism regarding armor etc wasn't the point, but good shout on the artstyle, I was just mixing things that I thought would be cool together, not trying to recreate an exact armor, here's another one I worked on a bit way prior date to get some practice with the tool fundamentals using gimp. probably can tell my inspiration source is mostly old school 00s and 90s fantasy art and some manga stylings.

>>
>>7978502
a lot of the anime look as far as shape langauge is considered is not soft and round like classical art, instead its very jagged and triangular shaped, you can notice this in all their shadow design, they rarely draw a non triangular area as a sahdow to emphasize shape/form. TWEWY was always just more on the nose on that and using it for the edgy aesthetics as they had limited space on a DS to make their characters look drawn with full bodies on a small screen, it translates well into pixel art.
>>
>>7978583

these have great shape language and style. 9.5/10

although, being perfectly honest, i'm starved for realistic furry designs. cartoonism is good but i think a lot of furry artists are scared to go for realism because it would make the characters less cute.

Thank you.

That scene is one I have done several versions of , the Cover art for Issue Zero of the First Graphic Novel, told in 20 pages of story per comic book, such was the plan around the late 90s. And a few decades of setbacks, female occupation, and a conga line of financial problems, I am doing another version now. This is poster sized, and that was more of a defiance of the Gods when I had to deal with a terrible new commute because of the malicious manager whe was EXACTLY like Mr Incredibles boss in the first movie. Took 300 hours over 3 months, but the first month was laying out the composition before inking anything. Any flaw one feels one has can always be circumvented by planning. At least the teddy bear is visible and not obscured by special effects as in the color one. The Issue Zero is a 64 page story that I storyboarded out, since the story following it centers around Teddy bears and the Vengeance of Discarded Toys. Cassandra is thorough in her defenses, but a drunken night is enough of a lapse to free the Eye Monster, who hunts her over the course of the comic.
I only have one page on my phone, and the rest is on a failing hard drive along with many other things. Fight the Good Fight.

This strip has another battle scene. As good as a half asleep guy scribbling in pen in a bowling alley can do.

AI slop is not allowed in this board. Delete it or you will be banned.
>>
>>7986966

I'm not a mod and I'm not impersonating anyone. I'm telling you that AI is not allowed in this board under any circumstances. This is an artisan board. AI gens get deleted in this board, and spamming AI gens could get you banned.

bought an intuos pro. usually draw on a pen display but wanted something i could draw on at my main desk more comfortably/passively so these are my first scribbles on it.
>>
>>7987724
how about you post proof that those images are ai? i didnt claim that i drew them by the way, maybe thats why you are acting like a baby

Ignore him and or rdport if you think anon is in tge wrong
The only reason i can think of for posting Ai in an art/critique board outside of AI doomscussions is trolling.

Anon is looking for a reaction. Dont feed it.

/beg/, but I respect it. Trad painting is hard. Needs stronger values, it's all washed (even if the further away parts may be intended to be foggy).
