Why does post processing always look bad?I've yet to see a single example of flat art looking better with post processing than without
Controversial example The unfinished one looks leagues better and it feels consistent to the fictional universe, the finished one just looks like a music video
>>7974375Literally “SOVL vs SOVLLESS” summed up in one picture
I feel the same
>>7974381This one is pretty brutal, every other example you posted is kinda subjectivePost-processing at its best is reallly a time-saving/cost-saving tool to fill in the blanks, like in >>7974378
>>7974383isnt this like crt vs oled?
>>7974375It's more that it's lazy post processing.
>>7974375Because the post processing is done by different people, and with the advent of digital it's become easy to put it everywhere so it get put in places where it shouldn't be
Normies love it. The more details, post processing and effects, the better.
>>7974394Wrong. One Piece is SOVL in both instances.
>>7974378Top would look 100% better if it just didnt have that dumbass camera shake
>>7974375....you do realize that anime has always had post processing right? You just don't like the current post processing meta.
>>7974580>....you do realize that anime has always had post processing right?Digital anime always had it, cels had only drawn effects and a couple of sovlfvl manual tricks
>>7974375>Why does post processing always look bad?It doesn't. You are just cherry picking.
>>7974383why not just?
>>7974589You're confusing a specific modern style with the concept of post processing itself. Anime has always had heavy post processing, back in your day, it was just done optically with lens filters, multiplane cameras, and physical lighting tricks.
>>7974619You just repeated what I said, and I said that those handful of tricks don't come even close to what modern digital effects do by drenching every frame in infinite bloom, particle effects, flash SFX etc after the animation is already completed
>>7974621>Why does post processing always look badSo then we agree that you just don't like the current meta. Okay just wanted to make sure we're clear on that
>>7974627Those are in-camera effects, not post processing, post processing is done POST animation, not during The old effects are equivalent to a director arranging the set and lights to create the desired result in the camera during shooting, the new effects are like shooting whatever and then adding filters, CGI, VFX etc afterwards
>>7974630The camera stage is literally post animation. You're just confusing optical compositing with digital compositing. To be clearer, drawing and painting cels is the animation. Putting them under a camera with filters and double exposures is post-processing, they just used film instead of After Effects.
>>7974631>The camera stage is literally post animationNo
>>7974632You can play all the semantics you'd like to fit your purposely narrowed world view so you can lament the death of "muh soul" literally does not matter on fucking bit to me and clearly doesn't to you either as long as it makes you feel good.
>>7974633I'm sorry you can't cope with being objectively proven wrong
>>7974378My biggest issue with this is that the visiblity of everything in the scene just gets murdered. Can't see shit, captain!
sometimes less is more
>>7975028left as it is goes against literally the concept of eyesight and composition and photography and biology and evolution and
>>7974375one piece of shittranime is so embarrassing nuking the japs was not enough
it's the fucking bloom. videogames use it so animation needs to use it too. bloom is a fucking disgrace but it appeals to normies. appreciation of bloom is the ultimate litmus test to tell if someone is a subhuman.soul vs. soulless is about how many of the SHIT things normies prefer are present
>>7974580then why does the current post processing meta always look bad
