Reminder that "just draw" copers still don't have a proper rebuttal to this >B-but he did improve! You mean he learned how to draw a bent arm after 15 years? You really think this is "progress" after a decade and a half?>B-but he has autism! Every other internet artist has autism. The difference is that their work can actually look good>B-but he barely drew!Wrong. He drew at least on a semi-consistent basis. Even outside of his comics, his rooms were full of drawings he made
>>7975885He’s literally mentally ill. He’s disabled.A lot of our permabegs are probably mentally ill too.
>>7975888The implication from this is that there has never been a good artist with autism, ADHD, schizophrenia, depression, or any other mental illness
>>7975885>He drew at least on a semi-consistent basis. Even outside of his comics, his rooms were full of drawings he madewhat's the evidence of that? whenever I saw his room its mostly toys and his pokemon cards. I have never been able to find any estimate about how much he actually draws. While in general, I think "just draw" should have been only said to guys who won't even -start- drawing, I felt a lot of time people underestimate how much someone who enjoys drawing actually draws.
OP, you're absolutely right that "just draw" is useless advice. Art is essentially a series of small decisions that compound. And, just like every situation in life where a decision need be taken, you have to use your fucking head and survey the topic or scene. And be receptive to feedback, but also knowing which feedback is useful and which is detrimental. This is less of an innate aptitude and more of a skill that you train with curiosity and determination. Chris chan does not have this skill because he's not even aware that his work is bad in the first place.
>>7975885>2015>dated 3/2000OP is a retard
>>7975913It's just the copyright, it's also signed "Christine"
>>7975885the exception that proves the rule
>>7975885So you're able to draw, right? Let's see your work.
>>7975885you failed to understand what just draw means on a fundamental level. it's like if someone said>just drivewhen someone asks how to get better at driving so they can get their license, so they take that to mean they should just drive completely randomly in an empty parking lot without ever getting on the road. then they'll fail the test and crash into a wall or some shit because they never practiced mobility and had no clue what the road rules were or how to drive with other cars on the road>but i thought you said i just had to drive?!?!retard
>>7976077Kek, I like this analogy.
>>7975885you failed to understand what just draw means on a fundamental level. it's like if someone said>just cookwhen someone asks how to get better at cooking so they can pass a test, so they take that to mean they should just throw random ingredients together in a pan without following recipes or learning any techniques.then they'll fail the test and serve something inedible or burn everything because they never practiced proper methods and had no clue about timing, seasoning, or how to cook alongside others in a real kitchen>but i thought you said i just had to cook?!?!retard
>>7976173This, but also "just draw" is good advice for literal nodraws (e.g. howies) who just fantasise about being able to do so but aren't actually putting the pencil to paper at all. It stops being relevant as soon as they form the habit to actually draw regularly and can start structured learning.
hes happy and that what's important with art.
Whats important with art is creating and so enjoying, but not just what you created or the Art itself, drawing, the drawing, but the drawing process and drawing, the drawing and the knowledge of the drawing too. Hou enjoy your drawing and the drawing process and more
>>7975885The difference is Chris doesn't want to improve because he considers his current style the best of all time
>>7975885chris didnt draw that often, just draw means "at least multiple times a week"
I avoided the just draw beg trap by never drawing.
>>7976173The point is that some people have a natural ability to detect what is wrong with their art and figure it out as they go, without needing much in the way of explicit instruction. Art just "makes sense" to them and can quickly pick up on what looks good and what doesn't look good, on a fairly granular level. They don't have to copy tens of thousands of drawings to beat into their head how things work, how to create form, how various things are proportioned, they just have a naturally sense and can synthesize countless combinations from only brief study. Others don't have this sense, and have to be taught and have it drilled into their brain, sometimes through an exceptional amount of repetition. You can find plenty of talented artists who start as prebeg, but reach a respectable level within maybe a year or two, but you find countless more artists who start at prebeg, and MAYBE reach the level of the other kind of artist after a decade.
>>7977227And to tie it into cooking, some people have a palate that allows them to quickly tell why exactly a dish tastes bad, and have a good enough flavor memory of how certain ingredients taste on their own that they can synthesize recipes and refine dishes on the fly without having to try every possible combination until they get it right, or have to follow somebody else's recipe to a T every time they want to cook something. It's why some wind up as award winning chefs, some wind up as mediocre ones, and some are little more than line cooks.
>>7975885Autism
>>7975892There are many different flavors of each of those conditions, though. I saw an autist on youtube the other day who could perfectly replicate any song on piano after hearing it once, meanwhile I have an autist cousin who literally does nothing but sit around memorizing numbers out of old phone books. Point is, not all autists are created equal.
