Hello Karyl, fancy running into you here
>>
Do you guys ever go back and go on a redrawing spree? Using your own art, I mean. It's like flexing on yourself.
>>
I noticed I draw better after going to the gym or swimming. What in the world?
>>
>>7977779
I'm often just too lazy to finish my stuff so I lay it aside for weeks/months and then go back to it later
>>
if you killed everyone that thinks or see themselves as an "artists" the quality of art would go trough the roof in 1 day.

You can disagree but it's true. It's also 2026 and people shill shita and crapma for whatever reason when photoshop and drawpile exist. I get it you are poor, so be act like a real poorfag and steal it.

I'm trying to avoid posting unfinished drawings here and everywhere else. Whenever I do that I feels as if there's no need to improve it anymore. Like "it's already out there anyways". It makes me lazy. So I'm just gonna finish my shit and post it when it's truly perfect. I'm ngl though, the attention whore in me is going insane.
>>
I legitimately want to draw right now but I feel ill from how hot it is outside...

you get that dopamine of posting something without putting in the full effort. idr have a solution to that besides finishing stuff faster and then drip-feeding the updates as individual posts.
I'm still too slow for my taste tho, it's frustrating
>>
>>7978241
Depends on your goals. Do you wanna draw from reference or imagination?
Bobby Chiu talks about aphantasia specifically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H61AJ0KkkEc
Learning a constructive drawing approach can let you build things up without a minds eye.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T_-DiAzYBc
Or you can just use an observational approach

Some people wont admit it, but I genuinely believe AI is responsible for killing off a good chunk of user activity on this board.
>>
>>7978274
>>caught a cold AGAIN from assholes who clock-in sick
Hey man, if my job actually compensated me rather than punish me for calling out sick, I would. But since I live in the third world shitstain known as the United States, I gotta share the love.
>>
>>7978565
I was worried about that too, but the stats don't support that. If we say that the start of AI was late 2022, then board traffic was relatively stable from 2023-2025 (or at least it wasn't declining any faster than it was before), and in fact it was trending upwards for a period in 2025. It was right at the start of 2026 that there was a massive dropoff for some reason. And I don't think there were any particularly big AI developments in January 2026 that would have caused the board to lose half its traffic overnight.
>>
>>7978598
well something happened to kill this board off. I remember around 2023 was probably the most active its ever been. It was like people just collectively decided that they wanted to learn how to draw and few years later its a ghost town.

Maybe you're right and has nothing to do with AI and is just a natural process where just a bunch of people tried out a new hobby, gave up and moved on to something else.

Can you faggots please for the love of Christ and Mary in heaven please stop bringing this up? You were alive in 2022. We had a plandemic in 2022. Every dog, mother, and child was home in 2022. Activity everywhere on the internet was at an all time high in 2022. Hollywood pumped their streaming services with so much content in the history of histories in 2022.

Please stop pretending to be stupid for once in your lives.
>>
>>7978599
I was just saying, it was basically as active in mid 2025 as it was in mid 2023, and that was already multiple years into AI. But yeah something happened recently that slowed it down a ton. Maybe the new captcha, idk

The new captcha isn't even that hard to bypass, atleast not on desktop.

I remember trying to post on mobile and the captcha kept failling even though i 100% chose all the correct answers so I just assumed I was subjected to some kind of "soft" IP ban and gave up. Maybe other users were experiencing the same

Zoomers killed the internet. AI is to blame but 2016 and the tourists begging turbonigger cancer are also to blame, zoomers don't believe in hard work they would rather scroll x and tiktok for hours.

The mods also play a big role, they made the site unusable for the actual userbase. All the new mods are fucking faggots with no knowledge on the site culture. Everything you know will eventually die 4chan is one of them, if anything its incredible is not completely dead.

The drop in volume is not unique to /ic/, several other boards are experiencing a drop in activity and post quality. The root cause stems from bad moderation which provokes a culture where low effort bait posts dwarf genuine posts with well thought replies that end up getting either completely ignored or even have moderation actions taken against them (the meta threads which offer constructive criticism and advice to improve a board but end up getting deleted with the OP banned is a good example of this).

As a consequence what we've been observing for the past couple years are several boards splintering away to niche groups which you can consider to be an underground network of would be posters who view the OP from /pol/ or /biz/ through a feed and engage within a channel instead of the actual thread which leaves it seemingly empty where in reality the real engagement is happening elsewhere.

You compound that with the ridiculous post timers and captchas nobody's going to bother waiting 300 seconds just to have your post be ignored or even deleted with a ban and these are just a couple of factors there's several more.

Drawing is only fun if you’re lucky enough to be talented or if you’re already good. Otherwise it’s just suffering.
The reason /ic/ is so negative is because it’s all adult learners who started late and don’t have talent, so of course they’re not having fun.

Anon, I just want to be able to draw competently. I want to be able to show people my art and have them go “yep that’s a drawing of X” instead of “that’s a drawing that’s GOOD FOR A BEGINNER I GUESS”. I don’t want to be the next Murata, I just want to be “an artist”, I’m fine with being one of the nameless legions of internet fanartists. But for so many of us that goal is so insanely difficult to achieve that it feels permanently out of reach. Talentniggers don’t understand what an immense struggle it is just to achieve basic competence.
>>
>>7980101
So what ARE you currently practicing? Is it getting you towards this or are you not even sure? Some people take the broad approach and that works for them but some people need to get an idea of what they want to make and cut out everything that doesn't get them there. You can add the rest on later, but if they drain your passion from you they're not worth it.

>i'll just keep grinding and posting and hope my shit gets good enough for anyone but me to care about it.
This is how /ic/ filters themselves, what you just did with the initial post was catch my attention by sharing an event. Just posting your art into the void and hoping its "good enough" to attract engagement on its own won't cut it. You need to bait people with something that leads up to your art, not the other way around.

Moreover it is your ego telling you that you shouldn't be an attention whore/whine about not receiving engagement and it is ego which makes you believe your art should be good enough to receive attention. In reality nobody will care if you whine or attention whore and if someone tells you otherwise you shouldn't care because they didn't invest the time and effort to do a drawing.

From other artists maybe, but normies will not care. How many times has /ic/ in the past complained about artists (without ego) gain traction by complaining which results in their art going viral from sympathy? The very fact that /ic/ complains about this means they're doing something right.

I know a dev who goes around shamelessly posting his OC on other groups and it's how I met him. He's currently looking for people to work with his OC and is one of those who's extremely hyperfocused on his character and completely immersed in her content. Would you like to step out of the crab bucket for a moment and meet him or continue to engage with other artists telling you that you should feel ashamed for sharing your work because it isn't good enough?

The point I'm trying to get across is you're not going to be seen unless you start shilling yourself by any means necessary even if it's shameless.

Depends on your current skill level.
For /beg/s it's important to strike a happy medium. You want to give yourself permission to slow down and actually think about what you're doing and rework areas that are incorrect. But it's also easy to fall into a trap of spending absurd amounts of time on one drawing and just reworking it over and over without making any progress. Mostly if you notice something is wrong then you should try a few times to fix it, but if it's just not working then you need to stop and step back and do some studies to fix the gaps in your knowledge.
That's just for /beg/s though, if you're already good then your problems will be different.

If your use of AI doesn't conflict with your goals then there is no reason to not see how it could be used in your workflow if some part of you is curious about it. I had something really weird happen to me and wanna blog about it. Back in January 2025, I woke up and thought "I'm sick of being a loser. From now on, I'm gonna try as hard as I can to level up, both in art and in my personal life." And so for the next 18 months, I just grinded every single day. I either worked on art, or I brainstormed -really- hard trying to figure out why my art was not successful. And sometimes I got really close, I made some art that people really responded to. But each and every time, I'd just hit some invisible glass ceiling, and all the progress I'd made so far would rapidly wither away and die. I have dozens of projects and pieces from Jan. 2025 to now and all of them are unfinished.

But something weird happened. I was hot off the heels of my latest failure, when I stumbled into some footage of Kanye on the Charlie Rose show. In this interview, he says that the confidence has to come before the success or you'll never reach those heights. And not long after I stumbled into Kobe Bryant saying pretty much the same thing, so I said fuck it, I'll start believing it. I'll believe that I'm the genius artist I aspire to be. And somehow, overnight, I could just do it. I could just immediately start grinding away at my art, not even in minor ways, but in doing the exact things that I KNOW will make me a great artist, no matter how painful or tedious. In just a few days, I was able to produce stuff that is on par with the best stuff I made over the past 18 MONTHS, and yet I wasn't pushing myself at all. After this, I didn't feel tired, but I felt super anxious, and I still do. The moment I discovered that this is something you can actually do and it totally works, it's like I immediately became a different person. Now that I know the glass ceiling is fake, I can't just go back. But to fully accept myself as this super talented whatever, that's also a really scary thought. Because it's me, but not me at the same time. But I guess there's no choice.

My original motivations for drawing might have been kind of vain. When I started it was really just for the glory because I was lonely and didn't have any friends and I thought it would be a good way to unfuck myself socially because I saw potential in my own shitty doodles.
Ironically though, now that I've improved a significant amount over the last six years and people are taking me seriously I actually find it more difficult to meet people I like more than ever. I don't really have much to discuss with non-creatives which means now I have an even smaller pool of people to talk to than ever, and even the people I know that I do consider creatives with potential seem to often slowly surrender their aspirations and give up on pursuing improvement in favor of playing LoL or something everyday because they're "too depressed."
I do think my initial motivations have changed and I'm no longer really after the glory and I'm more after just making something I would think was giga kino if someone other than I made it, but the loneliness is still an issue. I still feel it and possibly worse than before

i'm really struggling to finish projects 100% but i will spend a month drawing on one project until it's almost done and then decide that i've done all of the fun parts and get art block. i tell myself that i'll go back and finish them but i have several projects like that now. at the very least, incomplete projects give me reusable assets for future projects to make them less tedious.

right now i'm taking breaks by playing star trek online, commissioning art from lowballing russian/latin artists on furaffinity, and playing chuddy culture warrior on deviantart and watching gamergate stuff on youtube. but i'm not really having fun with anything anymore. i need to get out of the house and take a day trip somewhere.

right now, i'm counting down to october when i'm going to be able to afford a big 3D modeling project for a terran battlecruiser from starcraft, that i plan on creating floor plans for (200 meters or so, 7-8 decks, M36 scale).

making assets for this ship here that i can reuse for the battlecruiser. need to rescale kitchen elements

Not sure if I believe blind confidence will really immediately improve your own, but I have found for myself that when I internally larp as an "auteur" it does fill me with a certain kind of motivation. I have trouble believing I'm the real deal and can live up to my heroes, but it's kind of funny, when Gameoverse's pilot episode came out and people were making fun of the stupid Learnosaurus thing it filled me with a whole new motivation that says "I can't live up to my heroes, but I can definitely mog the shit out of the stuff coming out right now"

I've been really inspired by 3D works lately but it's so frustrating how much technical stuff is at the forefront of this type of art

Like I can't just sit down and make something that looks nice like I can with illustration..
It has to be under a certain polycount or my pc explodes, it has to have good UVs or the texture will look like shit, it has to have good topology or it'll deform badly, rigging anything is hell, making something isn't just about "putting it down" like a brush stroke it's more like you're pulling and folding bits of paper until they look like what you want and meet all the mentioned technical requirements.
idk why it's so appealing to me though, I guess there's just something cool about being able to "look around" a creature or a character.

>>
>>7986660
A month is waaaaay too long. Trust me I’ve been there. It’s a trap you want to avoid. If you can’t finish the underlying sketch in a couple days then it’s beyond your current skill level. Take a break from it, go do some studies on a related subject matter and then come back to it later.
>>
>>7986673
Now that you mentioned it I had to foreshorten both arms and redraw them with the hands like three different times until it looked right kek
>>
>>7986678
Yeah redrawing things multiple times isn’t bad in itself, it’s how you learn. You should be identifying mistakes and correcting them. But if you’re on the same drawing for a month then you’re just flailing at that point. Better to just go do a bunch of general hand and perspective studies.
>>
>>7986660
For me it's always the fear of drawing which eats away most of the time. I like drawing but it's also scary because you always have to listen to your intuition and can never be 100% sure if what you are doing is right. So you end up not drawing at all because you don't want to ruin your current drawing. I have this even when drawing digitally although I could just easily undo mistakes there. The drawing becomes sacred and you don't want to defile it.
>>

it looks amazing to you because you are in a completely different tech tree for your style. if bad news shows up on my screen (which it always does) the day is ruined and I can't draw

News are always bad. Good news are boring. Just don#t think about it.

Just stay away from your family then or learn to keep some distance at least. Pity is for retards and prostitutes.

You have to learn to enjoy the suffering to be able to do what you want. You also need solitude to be able to be yourself. If you have contact to people they will only distract you from your way.

I work 40 hours a week so no, there’s nothing in the world that I would want to do for 80 hours a week.
Half the pay though, yeah in a heartbeat. My needs are few and I don’t spend much anyway.

If it’s taking you more than a day or two to finish the underlying drawing then it’s because it’s beyond your current skill/knowledge level. Do studies on the specific things you’re having trouble with

I wanted to open comms but it feels so embarrassing to do that while knowing no one will order anything because my profile barely gets seen on X.
>>
>>7987905
Nobody will care, and if you must just post one of your own personal drawings and claim it was a commission. There's no integrity on the Internet especially social media everything is fake and gay.

>Do studies on the specific things you’re having trouble with
My main trouble is always to just draw. That's the hardest part about all this. Just sitting down and drawing for hours everyday.

i have hydrated, my headache is gone, i have shitted and i have stopped crying uncontrollably. it's art time, baby.

god I wish that were me but I always get stuck forever at the crying uncontrollably part

Fuck you you’re a bunch of aholes

NTA but admittedly a good solution to being seen as having literally zero demand

Making gif's/emoticons on my cytube channel
How do people remove backgrounds from their images efficiently? Especially from old anime where the image quality can be pretty crunchy and stuff like magic wand wont work.
I'm sure nowadays AI would be the answer for job like this, but how did, lets say, AMV artist's back then removed backgrounds from shots they needed, the way i do it atm is just manually cutting the character from the bg and doing some line enhancing afterwards, but doing this for even 10 frames of relatively simple art will take like +1h of work.
Using csp

lately i cant convert the first phase of thumbnails that i like into something perspectively sound, its time to buy a desk and comfy seats and do shit with 3d

another day wasted experimenting with animation. Whenever artists see my wip illustrations they say it would look good animated. Then I waste a day trying to make the piece work as a gif. I'm jealous of artists that can animate.

It’s not wasted if you learned something. :^)

Crazy. I second the PYW request as I'm genuinely curious about what kind of finished drawings/polished sketches someone with this mentality would draw.

I want to get into the world of traditional painting on large canvases, but the idea of having to be social is stopping me. I'd have to travel, set up booths, meet or potentially sell ideas on my paintings to strangers face to face is killing me inside. Isolation has comforted me for so long. Can hardly make acquaintances online, how the fuq do normies do it?

iirc the hashtag is mostly just text now. If you have too many of them you get penalized. Some communities do use hashtag so they aren't completely useless.

No way lol
Not unless I relocate to some comfy third world nation where cost of living is hilariously cheap and get paid in USD.

My art simply never "feels right", there's always a mistake or something that feels off. Like there's a glaring problem that I can't see but everyone else can and they're secretly cringing at me.
>>
>>7988757
pyw?
It’s normal to judge your own art more harshly than other people’s art. But also if you’re /beg/ or /int/ then yeah your art will just suck for a while until you git gud
>>
>>7988746
I feel like getting over it would be the better way desu ir just post my shiii and not engage
>>
>>7988810
The algo will continue to flood your timeline with content you do not want to engage with so what's the point.
>>
ya'll ever catch yourself mentally pressing ctrl+s on a traditional drawing?
>>
>>7988845
No but I keep mistakenly having full confidence that I could flip the canvas
>>
>>7988849
You can get a small hand mirror and use that to “flip the canvas” when drawing on paper, it’s quicker than taking a pic with your phone
>>
Is there a skill ranking list of /ic/ regulars? I've been mentally compiling a list of people to defeat anime protagonist style, but it would be nice if the legwork it's already done on that?

Back then trad artist could get themselves a patron, a patron would introduce them to their friends, to their circle or society, it gives them plenty of jobs and commsiions, if not patron then they are usually belongs to a group/guild taking commisions from people ever since they were still a student. These days trad artist would have to get themselves a gallery, sell their art to gallery, sign contract with gallery, and gallery wants them to create exhibition and meet people. Most of the time its one thing that led to another, that's just how job works in general. Average trad artist dont just get themselves a name out of nowhere or paint a famous government guy portrait all of a sudden, no, they have to introduce themselves somehow, show people what are they capable of, they have to start somewhere and socializing is one of the requirement for. Its still the same for digital artist except they use social media account in order to do so. But that's if you want to make a career as an artist. Its a whole different story if you just treat the entire medium as a hobby and have another source of income somewhere where you dont have to worry about not being able to make it and just draw things for fun

An artist I know personally and respected turned out to be stupid.
She was watching some raunchy anime and complaining it was raunchy.. Saying
>Sometimes I think we should be censoring these japs

I explained to her that some series she loves like Dorohedoro are too gruesome to be made from a censurous society. But she just went
>No, no that's different.
Do women just get dumber with age?
I resent that I have to respect her for being a genuinely skilled artist while holding such dumb fucking opinions.
>>
>>7990352
generalizing whole groups of people based on an interaction with one person is very low IQ

>Do women just get dumber with age?
You answered your own question.

>>7988845
Last time i sketched on paper i caught myself trying to click the paper with two fingers from the left hand (ctrlz gesture in krita)

>>7990352
Women are very solipsistic by nature, they don't really understand the concept of fairness
>>
>>7990352
just because you can't figure what the difference is doesn't mean others are dumb, could just mean you're autistic which given where we are is far more likely.

but at the same time, everyone gets dumber in some way as they age. women on the otherhand are dumb regardless
