I've been a /beg/ for around a few years and haven't really taken study too seriously but I felt as if I needed to go out and borrow keys to drawing and some other anatomy book which should help me start for now over the summer. Also I've been sparsely drawing and only put in 15 minutes of sketching once every few days, not that I'm discouraged or anything but I have been kinda lost on what to do and how to learn.Does anyone have any tips or things I should keep in the back of my mind while going through keys to drawing or when studying material in general?
>>7978012a lot of these are useless junk, just learn the shapes and how they work in 3D and how to shade in 3D gradient and you are much more skilled than anyone following these books. Learning perspective and shading is the two most important skills for an artist, best way to practice is also learning the shapes over and over again funnily enough, you'll be stacking boxes for the rest of your life on paper.
the answer is the same for everyone.Timed figure drawing (<= 20 minutes)Going outside and sketching people.
>>7978012>only put in 15 minutes of sketching once every few daysBasically the same as not drawing at all.You need to be doing hours every day if you want to see any improvement. Drawing is not a game.
>>79780443 hours at most, anything further you might as well become a neet if you aren't already to "get good." at art.
>>7978044you can see improvement from 1 hour a day, 3 hours a day only works if youre a NEET or if you ignore stuff like cooking and regular exercise with a job.
>>7978012From an anon who's watched a bunch of videos from the Japanese side of Youtube:>grind shapes and forms for a month, for at least an hour each day>do lots of blind contours and timed drawing exercises>make sure you're doing continuous line drawing>study simple cuboid and spherical forms like household objects>grab a copy of DRSB and perform the exercises on references>break down references into shapes and forms>grab a copy of Cognitive Drawing by Jason Brubaker
>>7978012if beg that long, jsut take up painting. you can learn to paint in a couple hours.
>>7978057>taking more than 30 minutes to cook.are you a fat fuck that eats solid foods that you yourself cooked more than twice a day? goddamn.
>>7978130I've been basically doing that without being on Japanese side of things on jewtube, kek. I knew it, my brain is gooked.
>>7978012>Does anyone have any tips or things I should keep in the back of my mindNot every method will work for you. Just because Loomis' method is well regarded, and he's a respected teacher, doesn't he he'll work for you, and the same is true for any other method. Give them a good college try, but know when to throw in the towel and try another teacher/teaching material. Also, don't be afraid to experiment and change up the methods to suit your own needs, whether through mix & matching the different taught methods, or by your own observations.
>>7978153> loomis methodthat's just figure drawing anon
>>7978141you live at home with your parents i understand anon.
>>7978155He does teach figure drawing, though those lessons are mostly general and I don't believe he taught anything truly unique there, but he also taught a method for drawing the head and face that was mostly pioneered by him. Also, I was using him as an example because his work is the most often recommended. I wasn't explicitly talking about his method, my tip was general, not Loomis specific.
>>7978142Grinding shapes is critical towards improving at drawing. East Asia includes geometry throughout all of their public school education from K-12.Many people try to jump straight into drawing forms or prioritize using references. You MUST grind shapes before you draw forms and you MUST draw from life before you get into the habit of using references. It makes things much easier for when you do start using photos or drawing forms.
>>7978170we had it in math class back when if you didn't sleep through it, probably your school also had geometry class in the 1-3rd grade and taught you lot how to calculate an area's shape.>>7978156I live alone, you don't need to cook more than two times a day if even that, literally if you meal prep or plan ahead otherwise its just snacks and whatever that are healthy.
>>7978012You're gonna want to copy and (meaningfully) trace all of the art from your art books. Tracing is one of those taboos that American artists tend to get uppity about because they don't want to admit that tracing (when done right) gets you out of the /beg/ gulags faster, which means more competition in the art community.Meaningful tracing means paying attention to how things connect, focusing on form and construction, reverse-engineering the order in which the original artist did things, and breaking the reference into simple shapes and forms from biggest to smallest.
>>7978170nta but how should i draw from life as a neet who doesn't go outside? should i just draw random things from around the house or even buy some primitive objects off of amazon and place those around and draw?
>>7978186>tracing.don't trace, look at and copy instead side by side to train the muscles to do odd things, tracing is just copy + paste of the art world.
>>7978186dont just trace, tracing without reason will just get you good at that, tracing. Pair it with drawing what you just traced from memory right after your study. you want to consolidate that information and analyze where you went wrong
>>7978189Yep. Draw simple things from around the house like cups and bowls. Toys, plants, models, etc. Buy plastic cubes or spheres from the crafts store to study.
>>7978195I don't know about you guys but the 3D poser tools have gotten really good as of late and are probably better than that as a recommendation, working with 3D will help retards understand 3D faster than just by looking at things.
