Are there any modern anime art styles capable of hitting the right spot between looking properly cartoonish/exaggerated but still very cute and appealing like Slayers or Rumiko Takahashi series do? It's what I'm aiming for art-wise and I need similar more modern artists to study outside of those classic examples
>>7978624No because modern artist all draw like porn addicted pedophiles so their art never captures the true essences of cuteness and cartoonish playfulness.

>>7978624I only play the dungeon crawler game. But there's something about the 90s art style that clicks the feel good part of my brain.
>>7978663yeah, I always felt that anime peaked in the 90s, or its visual style did anyway. Even the TV series that would have choppy animation would at least have a lot of detail, and the colors were way more vibrant than when the studios switched from paints to digital
The "cartoonish exaggeration" seems to be a thing new gen Japanese forgot all about and make character designs trend on the point of realism/easy to cosplay. Although I'm thinking they're starting to figure out what was lost, so give them time and hopefully they all collectively shift back to a time where hair defied the laws of physics and girls pulling rocket launchers from out of nowhere like how a cartoon should be.
>>7978624Based Slayers fan!
>>7978624Yeah there is a lot of great stuff now. I see it all the time on my social feeds
>>7978624>>7979350A lot of modern anime is visually boring and homogenous looking and most new shows getting greenlit are bland slice of life slop. Weebs always act as if modern anime is mogging modern western animation when in reality that industry is suffering from its own problems.I kinda blame western animation going to shit from the mid 2010s-onward for this, anime has always taken after western animation, but now that most western animation is garbage they can only take from themselves and it all looks inbred. Nowadays most westaboos have shit taste and love to consoom nuSouth Park and modern Disney films.
>>7978624not modern but closer to Slayer artstyle maybe is old Kotobuki Tsukasa art, he still does art but has changed over time
The new Ghost in the Shell adaptation kind of scratches that itch.
what the fuck is it with slayers getting spammed recently
>>7982658some zoomie kid discovering old anime
>>7982630>eyes melting off their face>sharp chins and cheeks protruding like tumorsI can see why this style died out, especially in the waifu era where beauty is valued more than expressiveness.
>>7978624I'd look at movies, they tend to invest more in aesthetics. For example, City Hunter: Private Eyes does a great job of modernizing the classic Hojo style. As for series, the remake of Yaiba: Samurai Legend looks awesome too.Don't sleep on the French. Many of the Japanese artists behind these great looking modernizations were influenced by the Beaux-Arts tradition.
>>7982658I mean there are worse shows to spam
>>7978662literally proving his point lol
>>7978624The illustrator for Slayers and Lost Universe is Rui Araizumi, and I've always thought he has a great artstyle too.>>7982630>>7982691I miss it. New shit is too stiff and lifeless, even the shows and manga that attempt to resemble older anime doesn't really do the expressive stuff that much.
