>Apparently better than CSP and TVPaint>possessed by the soul of FlashHave you tried it? Is it worth $20?
I don't know. Why don't you tell us what sets it apart from the rest, Umoupen Developer?
I use mspaint
>>7980796Ik what it looks like but i swear I'm not with 'em.I'm satisfied with CSP. I just wanna know if it's as good as they say
genuinely what does better even mean? if you are satisfied with the program you are using, why would you waste time and money to hop around programs. the hard round brush is not getting reinvented
>>7980821Satisfaction is the enemy of growth. If we said "yeah drawing on paper is satisfying lets stop here", we would've never found higher levels of happiness.Stay where you are if you want. I want to see if there's more
>>7980842going from paper to digital there are clear advantages. so my question still stands why is umoupen """apparently""" better than anything else
>>7980821I think it's pretty common for people to try programs out either because it has some specific niche or novelty you want to play with to see how it can be incorporated into your tools. So it'd be great if they could quantify what it is that specifically makes it better. If the only pitch is that it's 20 dollars and apparently better than x or y that's not gonna really get anybody convinced to try it.
>>7980844If I knew why it's said to be better why would I create a thread asking people? I clearly don't know the benefits and curious to find out.
>>7980821pyw retard
>>7980855anything for you my dear anonymous friend
>>7980792>oh nooo a new drawing app exist time to abandon all my brushes, shortcuts, keybinds, auto-actions, templates, materials, cloud storage sync just for them.>and i'll have to fork another $20 too when my current app is already paid for!
Well, it seems cheaper than CSP. Maybe I will try the demo and see how the workflow is for comics. Especially lettering and storyboarding.>>7980860I agree with this anon. I still did not commit to any software yet, but if one is already comfortable with one, there is no reason to keep changing.
CSP is garbage but this one is somehow even worse, it feels like a shitphone app.Not a real contender, the photoshop/Drawpile superiority moves on.

>>7980859MEERCCCCC
>>7981009But sometimes when you're working in the field and it took too much time to do something chances are you're using the wrong tools or doing it incorrectly
>>7981255maybe try getting in the field firstrarely is it ever a tool problem anyways
>>7980792>no linux support into the trash it goes
>>7980844>7980792>Apparently better than CSP and TVPaint>why is umoupen """apparently""" bettersays who? where did you get that from?
>>7981340>says who? where did you get that from?umoupen marketing, of course.
>>7981293No, no. Sometimes it is the tool. Cheap or blunt drill bits for example. You can spend 10 minutes trying to drill through a steel beam with a cheap bit but a good one for the job cuts through it like butter.
>>7981324>no linux support>into the trash it goesThe developer has said that it was on the way, so eventually I guess.
>>7981432pedantic retard
>>7981486I accept your sniveling limpwristed notrade concession
>>7981340I think its just meant to be better specifically for animation, clip BTFOs everything for drawing, but its pretty awkward for animation and playback is slow, idk about vs TVpaint tho, tvp is pretty good as it is, will wait to see reviews
>>7980792I heard a little about this and I'm interested. I primarily animate so this is a big deal to me if it's actualy better than csp + tvpaint which currently both my main tools. My problem with csp is the shitty laggy playback, in tvpaint and adobe flash/animate the playback is instant. and my problem with tvpaint is it the camera tool is garbage, i can't have more than one camera or decide what layers are affected by it, unlike with CSP. my dream software is one with csp cameras and the smooth playback of tvp..anyway maybe I'll try the demo and reply here with a review
I'm Interested, however as a Krita user and also a nerd dailydriving Arch linux [btw], is this program even getting some kind of support on such "niche" OS? I don't even care if it runs natively or on Wine/Proton, I've heard you can run an old version of Photoshop on Linux using a script from github
>>7984726>>7981481
>>7980792The trial version of this product triggers as a trojan. I can't even download it because it immediately gets quarantined. What's up with that huh? I see people saying it's because it's unsigned, well why doesn't the paid version do this? Why can't they just sign the trial version? Not only did this seem too good to be true, now it looks so sketchy that I'm gonna stay away from this bullshit until they clarify further.
>>7980821by better he means it's more bloated. i'm still using PS CS6 and Manga Studio 5
>>7984867it's probably a false positive but I'm going to pass too until it's resolved or explained. I'm paranoid now
>>7984905yeah it's not like I'm not familiar with false positives, I'm just gonna hold off until they officially address it. Doesn't seem that hard to do.
>>7984910for new software, specially indie made, 1 or 2 false positives is normal, not all vendors check licenses or programs automatically, problem with umoupen is that virustotal drops 16, this means this is most likely infected.
>>7984954The creator had also instabanned someone on their discord server that was claiming it was vibe coded without explaining or proving it wasn't... so a bunch of sus behavior surrounding this so far
>>7984965Kek. It's 2026 so any "I made an app" posts should just be treated as "I vibe coded stuff that I probably have no business in doing"
>>7980792Can I use it on Linux?
I've used callipeg on my android tablet and it was pretty goodhaven't tried the windows version yet
This is the future you will choose my son, you already killed gaming and now it's software time. Will you choose top tier industry software like Photoshop and CSP. Perchance support open but kinda shitty software like Drawpile and Krita. Retro with Paintool Sai. Go full retard with garbage like magma or windows paint? Or will you drink the soi and use the most dogshit mobile looking vibe coded program similar to other mobile garbage like ibis paint and procreate except this time is made by vibe coding jeets Don't kid yourself, You will drink the soi, you will use the vibe coded app full of viruses , you will play deltatroon on your chromebook and you will like it. Enjoy your future, retard.
>>7985058u gotta be kinder to urself anon. lmfao
>>7984954Interesting. I saw a video review for the software, and it was fairly glowing, so I think the software is indeed real and legit - I'm just guessing they've fucked up the Trial, or some aspect of the software that makes it look very suspicious.Wouldn't shock me if it was due to vibe coding, cause ain't the future just grand?
>>7980792>closed-source proprietary crap that can change its policies anytime>Umoudev is a power-tripping clout chaserFuck off with your hypetrain, shill. OpenToonz is good enough.
>>7985058>>7985087>ITT: anons act like fags w/o actually verifying what they sayAnd what I have to say is just some first impressions I had with the trial, because I was more inclined too since someone already said here csp's playback fucking sucks, even when I have it preferred for speed, it still misses frames sometimes. The build I downloaded apparently was buggy which explains some of the ui flickering but it got patched later. Saving and Exporting is a bit confusing since the UI doesn't make it obvious enough where they are; typically go to File on the top left, but here you have to click on the Setting gear icon to find the Export section. Not the most intuitive but then again that's just a matter of figuring out this shit and getting used to it, like I don't know if you can or at all change the shortcut keybinds yet.Where it exports to, it defaults by making folders to Documents, which you have to manually set the Export Location within program but it doesn't open up File Explorer window, it does the smaller one that lists everything on Desktop. You can apparently export multiple files as separate file types. In terms of animating with it, the program seems pretty good. I wasn't aware it was also advertise into basically being like clip studio, as in being both an animating and drawing program. Some animation features I've seen seem reminiscent of Flash, like ui for animation frames (other stuff I have no idea I barely used Flash or Adobe Animate, so I'm also less familiar if Umoupen's tweening is similar, because I haven't even tried that yet) You can also export brushes like CSP on it, which I haven't tried that yet. Wish there was a decent tutorial on this shit, cause I like it so far.
>>7984954>>7984910>>7985085they've aknowledged it in the faq. I might just wait for the 1.0 release
>>7985087>muh closed sourceBack to /g/ fatlard, no one cares about that.
Vibecoded slop gonna either hard pivot to a sub model or "upgraded versions" if it gets enough people or just be abandoned at some point in the future. There's a lot surrounding this that feels off.
man i hopped on ic the moment i saw this on youtube. is csp brush import thingamagik proprietary code or is there some documentation on github or gitlab? it's the first time i've seen such thing, although we haven't even mastered abr import yet in years, perhaps a decade.
>>7980792bought it, tried it. It's cool, has a really modern feel. If they fix all the bugs I could see it being pretty cool. For me though it's totally unusable for anything beyond a quick throwaway animation. As an undo/redo spammer, there are frequent errors happening somewhere between layers, frames and the undo stack, frames get corrupted, revert to random previous states, vanish, become unrecoverable, etc. Some quality of life features are also missing, like dragging to rotate canvas, dragging to increase/decrease brush size and so on.There's also some key bind/customization limitations which means you might have to build new muscle memory for this app and can't just cleanly transfer everything you're used to 1 to 1.
>>7984954>>7985794I think you can get a more accurate read when checking behavior:https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/52f8661fc68112f0f01ff42664f9619c1b25bb1bb51793c1a0b9352d95cee192/behaviorI'm no expert, but it does seem to align some of these flags are because the package isn't signed. Not sure why they dropped the exe on desktop instead of just a shortcut though. If there is something happening, the powershell stuff looks the most suspicious to me. Not sure why you would ever need to use it when you're shipping compiled code.
>>7986619found this post from google, probably a terrible mistake posting on 4chan but fuck itCodesigning aside, in order to keep it as a single portable exe, the app handles self updating via writing out a batch script to replace the exe with the new one when there's an update which seems to be flagged as a malicious pattern. I'm not primarily a windows user, (I was a long time ago) so my knowledge of the best way to handle this is hazy, if you can recommend an alternate/better method I'd appreciate it honestly.
>>7986651Is there a hard requirement for the portable application to only be a single executable? If not, i would just ship a second binary dedicated to updating and starting the application. If it is, you're best bet is probably the following:1. Main application downloads the update along with an updater to a temporary location.2. Main application opens the updater, passes its own process id, path, etc., and closes itself.3. Updater waits for main application to closes, replaces the binary with the updated one, and runs it.This way, you can also checksum and verify the signature of the updater itself.
dev said>"Seems like the embedded thumbnail generator DLL on windows may be triggering some of the trojan warnings, ie the thumbnail dll is technically inside another executable, like a trojan horse, im going to just disable file thumbnails for windows completely on the next build"
>>7986838Thanks for the response honestly, I tried this and it didn't seem to make a difference unfortunately, seems as long as its unsigned its just a crapshoot, just gonna have to wait. Its annoying that msft azure requires like 3 years of tax filings to get a cert through them so I have to go through ssl.com which is taking a million years to progress.
