How much money would I need to obtain an original Van Gogh?
>>
>>7981308
More than what you have, lmao
Honestly though, you should probably buy something from an unpopular artist you genuinely love. Van Gogh never sold a painting in his life, and it had to be part of the reason he took his own life. Be that word of encouragement that Van Gogh never got in his lifetime. Van Gogh should already be happy with how much he's recognized in the afterlife

not worth it.

there's no afterlife. this is it. yolo

>Van Gogh never sold a painting in his life
Umm, actually, he sold one painting during his lifetime, a few of months before his death too. Maybe he offed himself because that sale made him think he was making it, only to continue not selling for those next months.
A sale, ironically, made him realise that he wasn't selling.

>>7981308
And since he was a wildly unpopular artist, I guess $5 or so dollars?
>>
>>7981308
Like, probably more than a thousand euros. Maybe even a million.
>>
>>7981308
This thread got me to read his biography on wikipedia (the dutch page). Holy shit it's sad. Somehow he just kept going despite everyone calling him a gay loser.
>>
>>7981474
There is, and Jesus Christ is the way anon.
>>
>>7981551
he lived life on easy mode, being a gay loser is literally the source of all his issues
>>
>>7981469
>>7981487
he didn't kill himself.

>>7982856
his life was miserable. yes he got money from his younger brother, but it wasn't much and he was quite literally starving at certain points. that's literally all he had going for him, was a small allowance. everything else in his life was shit due to him being a sperg.
>>
>>7983305
it wasn't miserable and it was much, you dumb nigger, he was the equivalent of a guy spending $100k a year on making mixtapes
he was getting 120%-200% of a 72h/wk laborer's income, he was just wasting it all on paint he was shit at using while also being known for spending too much money on drinking in pursuit of his documented alcoholism
van gogh shat out 86 paintings a year, compare that to money who painted 33 in the same timeframe - while noting that those 33 made monet a millionaire while van gogh sold a grand total of ONE fucking painting
he wasn't barely scraping by, he was VERY well off and wasted it all because he was a spoiled delusional faggot
again, being a gay loser is LITERALLY the sole cause for his """hardships"""

>a small allowance
https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/art-and-stories/vincent-van-gogh-faq/was-van-gogh-poor
>In the first few years, he received an average of 100 to 150 francs a month. At the time, that was about 50 or 75 guilders, in any case a lot more than the 32 guilders a factory worker received back then to support a family of seven.
https://www.vangoghstudio.com/was-vincent-van-gogh-poor/
>Vincent was financially supported by his younger brother Theo during his painting career. Theo sent him a lot more money than most people earned and Vincent had no children to take care of.
https://www.webexhibits.org/vangogh/letter/14/364.htm
>Dear Theo, I just received your letter and enclosed 250 francs. If I may consider your letter an answer to my proposal, I can indeed agree to what you say. In short, to avoid further discussion or quarreling, in order to have some answer when those leading ordinary lives accuse me of being without any “source of income,” I want to consider the money I receive from you as money I have earned. Of course I will send you my work every month
>A standard working-class laborer or miner in France earned roughly 3 to 3.5 francs per day
>250 francs represented roughly 2.5 to 3 months of hard labor for a median worker

Like 99% of 4chan. You don't have to hunt for food either, pussy.
Bottom line is: being born broke and dying rich is better than being born rich and dying broke. For a gay loser he was incredibly persistent, which became his downfall but also gave us a lot of beautiful paintings.
>>
>>7983551
What retarded attempt at cope was that? /ic/ is full of permabegs who didn't give up either, you're literally just emphasizing that Van Gogh's vaunted persistence in the face of adversity is as heroic as the average suburban d/ic/k refusing to come to grips with reality and insisting he'll make it big with porn any day now

i don't know why people on this board comment on stuff they know nothing about
van gogh only sold one painting not because everyone hated him but because he REFUSED to sell painting cause he thought they weren't good enough
anytime he painted something he would label it a "study" and not a finished artwork to be sold
when he died he had just exhibited in paris and was considered the star of the show.
he was on the cusp of major success when he died. but he was profoundly mentally ill and also alcoholic. he spend massive amound of the money he was given by his brother on alcohol, tobacco and prostitutes
he was his own worst enemy
>>
>>7983328
no he was living in poverty and in and out of asylums because he spent ALL his money on art materials (extremely expensive at the time) alcohol, tobacco and prostitutes
in theory he had a decent amount of money but in practice it was all spent leaving nothing
the median worker at the time is like the subject of the potato eaters they had very little to speak of it was a different era
>>
>>7983810
van gogh painted up to 2 paintings per day, all the masterpieces we know now are painted mostly in a span of ~3 years of manic periods where he worked ceaselessly followed by periods of aggravated mental illness where he needed care in hospitals
no one on 4chan is like that they are mentally ill but they spend the time jerking off not painting crows at night or the the night cafe
>>
>>7983878
>van gogh only sold one painting not because everyone hated him but because he REFUSED to sell painting cause he thought they weren't good enough
Bull fucking shit, he sent Theo his paintings to sell every fucking month, nobody was buying them.
>i don't know why people on this board comment on stuff they know nothing about
Peak fucking irony.

https://www.webexhibits.org/query-gogh.spy?qt=sell
https://www.webexhibits.org/query-gogh.spy?qt=buy
There are dozens of his letters detailing his attempts to sell, writing to dealers about selling his work, talking to his brother about him selling his work, lamenting the fact that nobody's buying his work, hopeful notions that any day now someone will buy his work etc etc.
It boggles the mind how and why you "people" come up with these retarded headcanons about things you must surely be aware you know nothing about
