I have so much free time but after drawing for a few hours, my mind just feels like it breaks and I can't force myself to focus on drawing, I notice that my progress slows to a halt and it becomes significantly shittier
I don't know what it is, I've worked 10 and 12 hour shifts find but when it comes to drawing I just need to dedicate so much more brain power for whatever reason

You grow the fuck up and just do it.

This poster has never spent more than 30 minutes drawing in a single day

I do a max of 30 minutes, then relax, then do another 30. You should learn and adapt to your brain's focus power.

this is more relevant for when i am just drawing shit than when i am working on something that takes longer than one sitting, but yeah when i have filled a canvas (digital because i didnt make it clear) with 20~ drawings that i am happy with its hard to start another or resize

You have a job already. You dont need to learn how to draw for it. Just relax. Dont do complex things yet, nor draw things you feel exceedingly passionate about because you wont manage to make something you like yet and feel horrible for not finishing it.

If you’re a beginner and you’re still in the “learning” phase then a few hours for one session is perfectly normal. Learning is harder than performing a skill you already know, your brain can’t stay in learning mode for that long. Take a break and walk away and do more later if you feel like it.
If you can already draw and you’re working on a major project then you kinda just have to suck it up and work through the fatigue. Although even then, be aware that drawing is cognitive labor and cognitive labor can be surprisingly exhausting. As much or moreso than physical jobs. Your brain needs to take breaks every once in a while.

I work nights, and sleep badly.

When I crawl up my stairs after tossing boxes around, I don't want to do much of anything. Until I smoke a bowlful of Inspiration. Then fatigue vanishes, and I find the urge to draw.
