I like Steve Huston's style but I find it hard to imitate digitally.
Is there a digital artist that is similar to him but uses digital methods instead of Alla prima oil painting
I use csp btw. Should I change software in order to get a closer texture to oil?
Can I use a standard round brush or do I have to use special colormix settings in order to get the desired effect

Yes, with a lot of blending
>>
Probably need something like Rebelle, or heavy textured brushes.

Honestly being able to blend all this hues especially the gray on the chest to make it look like there's reflected light is pretty genius

this board is never getting out of /beg/ hell holy fuck

they look lole they have got extra thick gloves on

Yes, you can get a very similar look. Use Rebelle as it's the only art program that closely mimics the feel of painting traditionally. Additionally, Court Jones has a lot of videos on his YouTube channel talking about approaching digital painting in Photoshop from a tradionalist approach (minimal layers, how to think about colors, brushes, texturing, etc).

If you want this blended look digitally just turn down your brush opacity or set it to pen pressure, it's how Craig Mullins and most of these realist guys work
Personally I dont really find replicating traditional media digitally all that worthwhile, I prefer playing into its' strengh, easily achievable hard and airbrush edges, content-aware effects and such

I can say my rendering style has been somewhat been influenced by Hustons work...but not trying to nail it identically. Skipping the higly stylized bravado brush marks, atleast in this piece. This is done in Krita, a free digital art program. You can ask me if you want to know more.I painted this in the "traditional" mindset. One layer, only brushes etc. to keep it as simple as possible.

People keep saying "blended" but in fact it's not..it lacks the very soft blending usually found in digital art. These are more textural and impasto marks, and abstraction. With some "Sfumato" thrown in, and a lot of suggestive forms. Shadows are lacking in detail, to make it more chiaroscuro type approach. With a subdued monotone type of colour palette, with some complementary color scheme, blue and yellow. Also warm light vs cold shadows..>>7982384

>Can I apply Steve Huston's painting techniques to digital
I am not an expert on digital but I doubt it. There are some rare cases where digital artists are somehow able to make it look very trad but it requires a ton of workarounds. Not to mention thick alla prima oil... that would be quite difficult to achieve I think.

holy fuck stop posting

How do you select your hues and their respective shadows
Whenever I paint in anything other than gray scale my shadows look off, I feel like I'm never selecting the right shadow color
>>
>>7985130
a shadow is just a plane reflecting light other the main light, you determine the shadow color the exact same way you determine the light color, but using secondary lights
