Unironically if you paint in pixel art on a large canvas its basically the same as drawing without anti aliasing in regular software. Picrel is pixel art not the large resolution ones.

Tried pixel art for one of my OC.
Studied a sprite sheet I found online, I think the result came decently but I spent too much time on this, hope practice makes me better.

oh hey another thread for one of my trade skills.
The last few things I've done. sadly I won't be doing much more of these as the project moved to full 3D, but these will be useful for a reason I will show in a moment.

basically, I decided that I refuse to allow this aesthetic choice to die, so the models are now texel accurate to the intended pixel resolution of all other assets, making everything feel consistent. pretty good results if I say so myself!

I want to do mechas and tank or motorized units but don't know where to start. Metal slug like units look so hard to do. What would you suggest? Also i sometimes struggle with nailing the pixel art, it maybe looks good or not. I've been at this for a week now what would you suggest for a beginner?

Damn.... even /beg/'s invade these rare threads.

He's right, though. Drawing without anti-aliasing doesn't magically turn your art into pixel art, it just makes your art look like shittier conventional digital art.
>>
>>8003553
first 3 yeah, 4th one is pixel art, albeit a wonky style. could work its way around to https://x.com/aozorapxl kinda stuff

What actually qualifies as pixel art to you. Just 1 bit or within a certain size limit? Personally I think the separating line between pixel and art is the artists interpretation of the total work. So:
Crunching an image down into a handful of colors? Not pixel art. Manually layering, composing, filtering and hand painting shadows into a pixelated image? Art.
>>
>>7985496

i use krita for my pixel art. i like to use APNG format for animations, which i use JDanimatedimageeditor on linux for.
>>
>>7986501

"pixel art" is just art where the artist is focused on pixel-perfect resolution. it's entirely possible to draw on 4K images with pixel art, as long as the creator is focused on being absolutely precise.

what i hate is when pixel artists blow up their artwork 8 times to overcome the shitty anti-aliasing built into most image viewing software. i use XnView for desktop but i haven't found a good alternative for mobile that supports APNG

Anyone got any tips for someone new getting into pixel art
>>
>>8024618
Work on a project that requires a bunch of pixel art. Make it something with low expectations too, so you can be creative and not worry too much about the quality of what you make.
Then practice fundamentals of other shit in-between working on your project.

what this guy said
Make the sprites for a hypothetical game
i.e.
A player sprite with idle, run and jump animations
2 enemy sprites
a tileset for a scene
some props for said scene - i.e. grass, stumps, hanging lamps etc.

slowly build up the scene and - hey look at that your a indie concept artist now

make sure pixel aspect ratios are the same
add some elements like health bars etc
>>
>>8024363
Whoah dude, that's deep or something.
(I do like it though)

Do I have to autistically count every single pixel to make it all symmetrical, or just go with the vibe?

How the fuck did you convert this? AI pr started from scratch?

Awesome work.
I am nearing higher /beg/ in lineart... what would you recommend me to get as good as you, besides putting in the hours (naturally). Any resources or techniques that helped you a lot?
>>
>>8027540
For symmetry, just flip half the pixels. No pixel artists I know really do much counting...

>>
>>8027716
You're limiting your audience by making a VN far more than going with a pixel art style. Plus, it worked for VA-11 HALL-A. Go nuts.
>>
>>8025792
there's no real course, best way is basically taking some pixel art you like and learning from it, recreate it, edit it, do your own take on it.

First try after dabbling in pixel art over a decade ago.
Turned out better than expected, but not quite happy with it.
Picked "Eroge Copper" form the Aseprite palette presets, but now I can't come up with a background that doesn't clash.
I'd say I'm finished with this particular piece for today, but tomorrow I'm going to give this motive another try from the ground up and maybe start with some sort of idle animation.
I'm aware that right now there are plenty of flaws, but is there something I should focus on specifically?

Very late, sorry.
I don't use AI. I'm just really good at what I do. I modelled the thing with the side view sprite directly in the viewport and made sure the silhouette was as close to the pixels as possible.
Here's a funny extra I put in the UVmap cuz I optimized it so heavily lol
>>
Anyone know of a program that lets me liquify without anti aliasing? Just pushing raw nearest neighbor pixels with a brush

Finished walk cycle for her, although "finished" is a strong word to use here, I will polish her frames further later. For now I want to start working on the environment she will live in.
