you can use a pencil brush in photoshop as well as have the eraser set to pencil mode so it also behaves the same way and the reason it feels good is because it outputs non aliased strokes with no gradient falloff around the edges like a standard brush even at 100% hardness will have. another benefit of this is the bucket tool can fill accurately.
