Why do begtards only hold their pencil like this?
>>7994719I dont know. I hold my pencil like this
wtf i hold my pencil like this and am a /beg/tard
>>7994719bro I'm not changing my ingrained muscle memory after 30 fucking years. I'm stuck with what ive got and my pathetic low stats, growth is no longer possible.
pyw if youre going to make retarded bait threads
overhand grip is pretentious.
>>7994824overhand sounds silly. what I find is useful is holding the pencil towards the back near the eraser, and keeping it stiff for straighter lines or shading. for more intricate detail work, the normal pencil grip is fine.
i love ragebait in the dead board holy eppiccerino sea mentality xD!111! epic thread my dude!!
for me, it's the humble deathgrip
>>7994719Any other grip is 'tarded.
>>7994833no pain no gain
>>7994719The overhand grip is a meme, show me one comic artist or animator who uses it.
>>7994883Anyone with sensible IQs who goes to life drawing uses the overhand grip when at an easel.
>>7994887I asked for professional comic artists and animators, people who are actually making a living from their art. Not boomers larping at their local community college
>>7994883>comic artist or animator>>muh cartoonsYou're a grown man. Stop watching tranime.
>>7994889Anime makes money and has such an impact on culture that the Japanese government actually pays attention to it. Atelier larpers sell knick knacks at the county fair.
>>7994883Enjoy carpal tunnel, beg.
>>7994911>Tranime is an important part of our culture!!!>the Japanese government "pays attention to it" (whatever that means?)>Muh county fair!!!You will never produce real art

What is the point of this retardation?
>>7994948It’s supposed to make it easy to vary the line thickness as you’re drawing a line just by tilting the angle of the pencil, among other things. Assuming you have your pencil sharpened in the proper way, exposing a lot of lead. But I’m not sure if anyone actually does that. It seems like people just cargo cult on this grip because it’s the “proper” grip

>>7994922You do know you can draw from your shoulder, right?
>>7994948Shading
>>7994948shading, you never hold pencil before ?
>>7994719Pencil control requires four finger contact.Bonus if you can get the pinky there, too.
>>7994948Honest to god it hurts less to draw this way. Forget all the technique bullshit and how it can help with shading or tone or whatever. The more you rely on drawing with your whole arm the less you are fucking twisting your hand into cramps
>>7995329How long did it take you to be proficient with it? I'm not sure if this type of grip would be usable with fineliners.
>>7994719yeah how are you supposed to grab a stylus on a screen tablet, retard
It’s completely predictable that /ic/ is the board that doesn’t know how to hold a pencil
holy larp
>>7995335The learning curve is honestly a couple of weeks. Granted I learned it in a life drawing class where you had to do like 20+ drawings a session but its honestly not that hard, it is just a matter of fighting muscle memory>finelinersIf you wanna do the whole "draw with your arm" shit but not hold it sideways so you can work with fineliners you hold it with your ring finger instead of your index/middle finger. If you try holding your pencil with the former method you notice you dont have that much freedom of movement compared to the latter. But again the plus is you are forced to draw more with your arm as opposed doing all those little tweaks and curves that end up fucking with your hand if your not careful.Honestly for shit like placing a rough draft/first pass on a drawing you should draw doing the sideways shit/ring finger and pinky and save the little micro adjustment shit at the end. Even if you assume Im a complete fucking perma/beg/ take my word in the fact that I've drawn A LOT over the years enough to develop some pain, and if anything I've avoided outright arthritis by doing the sideways shit and squeezing a baseball whenever my dominant hand is free. Like even if you draw for fucking hours if you hold the pencil sideways your hand will feel sore but it'll feel better with rest kind of like when you have a good long run and your legs are in pain but after a period of rest you dont get any actual damage to the nerves
>>7994923Loool
>>7994948Finer control of pressure, fag. This thread shows almost none of you have formal training.
What medium do you use the overhand thing with? I tried wood pencils and it's nice. Is doing this with a stylus even a thing?
>>7995404The overhand grip doesn't make sense for a stylus, although I have seen people recommend that you place your grip further back on the stylus when you want to draw a longer line
>anons here use their hands to drawHeh, feels good to know telekinesis
