Why are there very few if almost any pure webcomic artists with skill on part with full-time online illustrators like Krekkov or Smurf? How come there's very few amateur self-published online comics with art on par or better than Ramia but without the fucked out release schedule? A fantasy self-made amateur comic that regularly has art on par with pic related would get attention even if the writing isn't exactly the best
>HURR WHY DOESN'T THIS SELF DEFEATING UNTENABLE THING EXIST DURR
>>7995554And by the way, the "their art is too detailed for a comic" excuse doesn't work either because there are a significant amount of monthly manga with art that's just as detailed and competent in terms of draftmanship: Berserk, Claymore, Gunnm, Steel Ball Run, Blade Of The Immortal, etc. and even new stuff like Centuria. Not to mention the many skilled american artists in the comics from back then like Bill Sienkiewicz or Barry Windsor-Smith. Even Todd McFarlane and Jim Lee by themselves are enough.

>>7995554web comics are slop, designed to be pumped out with the minimum viable quality.>>7995559you're cherry picking the best of the best from decades. they are the exception, not the norm.
>>7995554>why is the oversaturated, past its era field where you dont get paid per drawing pumping out worse drawings than the successful artists from whom every drawing helps them ensure they pay the billsgee i wonder
>>7995559The manga industry is extremely competitive, push to overwork, in addition to the artists having access to assistants and editors to optimize their work. Despite that, this kind of title is still an exception rather than the norm. It’s no wonder it can’t realistically be replicated as a webcomic. Especially since the indie artists that can approach this level and productivity will more have the mindset to want to get into the manga industry. I think in general you need an extremely dedicated autism that functionally goes against the idea of being a freelance self made author without a publisher, which requires a wider range of skills and to be less focused on drawing all the time.

>>7995554In Japan, making manga is much more commonplace. It's more than an industry, it's a cultural quirk. Most famous mangaka got their start at an extremely young age, as in, they started making manga at the age of 5. These weren't good manga, or anything that made money, but they were manga, and that's the point. In the west, kids don't make comics, they draw pictures. Even when someone gets into art... comics is always this distant thing that you don't even attempt alongside animation. It's simply a matter of probabilities. If out of every artist, 1 in a million has the capacity to be a good comic/manga artist, then you've gotta go through a good few million artists to scoop up a few.In Japan that's fine, there are many more artists among their population, and of them, many of them dabble in manga. But in the west, fewer people are artists, and fewer of those dare dabble in comics. You're just not hitting the 1 in a million thresthold, or whatever the probability is.
>>7995681contComics have a very bad reputation in the west. Printed comics are synonymous with greasy neckbeards in rundown comic shops. And web comics are synonymous with amatuerish deviant art garbage. There is no success or reputation to be gained in comics, that is the image it holds. And so nobody even bothers to try.Comics are very difficult and the reward seems very low. Maybe an artist will dabble in a single issue comic of 10-20 pages once in their career but that's the best you will get.Until they shake off the reputation that comics currently holds, there is no future for comics or webcomics.
