"I have drawn for years and never improved", has to be the biggest lie thrown around here, no?I would understand the frustration of someone who is a super hard worker, pouring hours for 2 to 5 years drawing almost every day, studying, applying themselves, but making no progress. However, the average complainer never has the material to back it up. The hundreds and thousands of sketchbook pages/papers/digital drawings show how much they actually drew all those years. Why is that? They might have been 5 years into trying to start the journey but never actually committed enough.
>>7998999"improved" is the key word here. if you go at it with the goal of improoooving your art you get stuck in ruts dealing with bad approaches and habits. if you make art you want to make, and make a wide variety of art, and use all the tools at your disposal, you will become more *appealing* naturally, which is what matters.
saying X years is a cop outask them how many finished pieces they made during those years, and you'll know why they didn't improve
>>79989992 hours every day won't improve shit
>>7999002This is probably true. "I've drawn for 2 years" often means they did a 1 hour study or doodle every two days.
>>7999018>1 hour study or doodle every two daysIt's kind of like reading a chapter on math once and expecting the information to stick. The short-term memory never gets transferred to long-term storage.
>>7999021thank you for your input, reddit, but that's not how building skills works
>>7998999The two kinds of people that legitimately put in the hours and never improve usually have some kind of mental illness or a profoundly low IQ. But I also think some guys with talent cap out at high beg/int because they draw the same thing all the time.
>>7999021>1 hour study or doodle every two daysas if. you can absolutely make impressive pieces and learn technical skills on that. these people draw once or twice a month at most.
>>7999029>>7999041>no work posteddisregard
>>7998999I'd say another one of the biggest lies when it comes to artworks is:>real artists don't need references, just use your mind to recall what it looks likeIt's wild to me that using reference material like 3D software, photo's and other pieces of art into your workflow is frowned upon in some art circles.
>>7999071>crab tells others to post work after making an absurd claimcome on man do you know how lazy most successful illustrators are? most of them arent miura working themselves into a heart attack. you can absolutely learn with 30mins-1hour of high quality studying per day, but if you enjoy it you will naturally do more. quality>quantity.
>>7998999I documented my stuff and I haven't improved.I made crazy progress in the first 2 months, from scribble to 3d form, but it just staid there. The skill cap is real. And yes, perhaps it can be broken. With more structured studying, stronger fundies practice, more time spent. But if you are limited to 2-3 hours a day, because a man gotta eat and he has to work out and do all the other bullshit to not be humiliated by women - then this little time carved out of the servitor existence we lead is just not enough to improve, even if you religiously use the little time daily.Drawing is different than other hobbies. It really requires a massive time investment and it cannot be spread throughout years. You have to spend a part-time job amount of time on it and you have to be very structured. It's genuinely the worst hobby out there. Sadly, I am committed. To a fence-sitter I recommend: find a cartoony style and stick to it as a once-in-a-week thing and find another hobby to pour time in. Ideally a team sport. Don't do writing.
>>7999082>the absurd claim>reading a math chapter once isnt enough to learn it
>>7999112yes for stupid people thats the case i agree.
>>7999081Agreed. The idea that you shouldn't use references is probably the worst crab advice given anywhere. Especially when you're a hopeless beg with a tiny visual library.
>friend always asking for critique and advice>they draw just one figure in however long it takes them and then that's it for the weekI dont know what to do, all the advice I give him is useless if you only do it once and never again.
>>7999112how many times do you think kids read match chapters lol? like maybe the statement makes sense for university level math, but elementary and high schoolers definitely don't read the book more than once
>>7999112You don't learn when you read the chapter, you learn when you do the exercise problems, Dum Dum.
>>7998999Last year I was drawing every single day for hours during a 3 month period to see how much I would improve, I was improving every day, but at the end I took a few weeks break and when I got back into drawing I was back to square zero...
>>7998999biggest lie in general, when fags means they draw for x years, what that really means they only draw once or twice a week for 30 mins every few fucking weeks to months.
ic uncs know the legend of volen ck
>>7998999no it 100% exists
>>7999614whatever happened to this dude
>>7999610For me its mithrilda
>>7999614The still life nature paintings are quite nice actually. He's clearly a slow learner, but I don't think it's right to say there was zero improvement. I suspect he wasn't really in the right mindset whilst studying -- so he was going through the motions, and not really putting himself into the right mindset for learning anything.
>>7999630>just draw*>*only works if are happy, mentally fulfilled, motivated, well rested, with loved ones supporting you and your maslow's hierarchy of needs met at the bottom, and be in the right mindset bro!
I saw pretty steady improvement for the first 5 years but its hard to deny I've hard plateau'd for the last 3.
>>7999634>"Hey why aren't I learning despite giving my studying my full attention... just ignore that I'm watching movies, listening to music, only studying in very short bursts, and am never really thinking deeply about what I am studying.">"Hmmm, I guess studying just doesn't work for some people"This isn't to say that 'just draw' will work for everyone, blind people and literal retards will have a hard time, but to look at my comment and turn that into 'you can only learn in very select conditions' is a total misrepresentation of what was said. You might as well give these whiny excuses to teachers in schools, how could the kids possibly learn if they're not happy, mentally fulfilled, motivated, well rested, with loved ones supporting you and your maslow's hierarchy of needs met at the bottom, and be in the right mindset?
>>7998999its all about perspective.you see the heavens as up, and the earth as down, so you push the boulder towards the heavens.i release the boulder and let it ascend up the mountain, to the earth.i've mastered the art of drawing, and defeated the gods once again.you wish to force art out of you, rather than letting it ascend from you.that's the difference between a mountiain and a valley.water flows to where it can settle, not where its commanded.so too art flows where it can settle, not when its being forced.
It’s unreasonable to expect there to be people who 1.Failto improve after 100+ hours 2. Continue to persevere for 1000+ hours, and 3. Are willing to humiliate themselves by posting about their overwhelming failure on the internet in depth, all just to disprove your completely unjustified blank-statist assumptions. And then despite how unreasonable that demand is, these people actually do show up on occasion, and you people consistently disregard it.
>>8000310Bullshit. If you dedicate yourself that long, you will improve. Being the best and being good at something are different things. Sure, not everyone can be a first-seat violinist, but anyone can learn and play quite well the violin. There is nothing unreasonable here. They didn't actually put 1% of the effort they claimed to.
>>8000379You people are legitimately retarded, you make no argument and just repeat the claim. And how far down are we moving the goalpost here? Saying “everyone can learn to draw” seems like a much stronger statement “everyone can reach mid-beg level in drawing”.
>>7998999>However, the average complainer never has the material to back it up.https://www.youtube.com/@praisethesun6453/featured
>>8000662just one more page of triangles.
>>7999614he improved quite a bit I thought, for 5 years self study this isn't bad. In academic settings he'll be forced to draw 2-3 times as much at least. individual practice page of mark-making doesn't seem very useful unless you just picked up a pencil yesterday. Ideally they should be application in other studies mainly from observation like life drawing or still lifes. It took me a long time for the lessons I learn to unite with my personal drawings from imagination, and it helps if he made personal drawings while they are studying.
>>8000662I threw away dozens of sketchbooks filled with line exercises from when I was young. This is not the meaningful part of studying. I am talking about actual practice and trying to draw.
