Almost no one else gets royalties from their characters(not even people from the same time - Todd Macfarlane gets jack shit for Venom's appearances), if anyone at all. You also don't have to be keeping up with multiple runs for other characters on the odd chance there's a load bearing surprise homework you need to do for the current villain

They had 100 years to make comics synonimous with capeslop, fat nerds, speculation markets for childrens toys, and the soulless rehashing of the same stories. This is exactly how the big two Marvel and Dc want it. They DO NOT want a market like japan where most comics are original stories made by creative and skilled geniuses. They spent 100 years making sure that didn't happen.So, it's not over. It just never began.
