Bleach isn't an example of what you think it is. It HAS good, maybe even great, storytelling. It's clear and easy to read even for kids. That's not easy to do in a comic, and if you neglect storytelling then you're neglecting to make your comic readable.Just because the story itself turns into a mess doesn't mean the author isn't capable of better.

Art alone isn't enough to carry your manga. No one cares about the One Punch manga anymore for good reason because Murata keeps butchering the story that he simply just needs to adapt. Conversely One Piece is an unreadable mess now visually but nobody has really dropped it because they're still invested into the story and characters. Kagurabachi started out with its art being memed on and people stuck with it as the mangaka got better once they tried it and saw that it was decent

Hone both because they support each other in the long run. Comics are a visual medium but even then they dont last long if you don't have a good story. You're using bleach as an example when bleach in fact DOES have good story telling along with Kubo's artistic skill.I've seen people with stories full of potential but their art keeps it from thriving because they just don't have the skill for what they want to do. Same thing for those that have good technical skill but their stories can't pull anyone in. This is the fate of many shonen jump manga that have ben cancelled early.Comic cancellations are different because it depends on if you go self published, or just post it all online. You're only under the threat of run cancellation if you work for a bigger company like Marvel, DC, or IDW.

Hell, make the end of the characters long journey something sappy, like him getting home to his loving family, or visiting a friend's grave on a special anniversary date, or going to the location where the character wishes to spend their last moments before dying (and then dying), or something like that, and people will probably eat that shit up.Point is, you can have a very simple idea that still captures peoples' imaginations and allows you to show of your art skills, and it requires very little story writing - all you need is a strong repeatable hook, like the dude going to an alien location, exploring it, and leaving it, example.Another example could be something as simple as a girl/boy going shopping and trying on clothes; you'd get to do a lot of fashion art, and maybe only need to write some thoughts on how the fashion looks.Or think of all the food porn comics japan makes, which are incredibly formulaic, but the art of the food and seeing the character reactions to eating the food makes them very satisfying to read.A simple story formula that's more about emotion than plot, then repeat.
