Story time:Over a decade ago I graduated from a 2D animation program. Out of everyone in my small class, I was the only one who decided to focus on flash animation, mostly because I wanted to work at DHX Vancouver (now Wildbrain), a studio that specialized in flash for a long time (also the studio behind MLP:FiM, I wasn't too interested in the show personally but that was their breadwinner at the time). I applied for junior positions for an upcoming project but never heard back from them, so for the time being I simply thought that my application had been rejected and while I was a little crushed, I moved on. A month later, the program director from my school reached out to tell me that reps from DHX would be visiting and that they were interested in meeting me. I went and met with the studio's head of HR, and it's there that I learned my application email had never reached them and the resume I had faxed was most likely discarded by mistake. She told me that while all those positions had been filled and that they didn't have any current openings, she liked my work and invited me to visit DHX later that week for a proper interview and a personal tour of the studio.When the day came I cleaned myself up as best as I could and bussed over to DHX. The studio had a chill atmosphere. Seeing people at their desks animating or working on new assets on fancy PC setups, checking out walls of model sheets and thumbnails, it really felt like a place I would thrive in. The interview went well, but the HR head reminded me that they didn't have any current openings, but that they'd reach out if a new junior position popped up. AI is very great at programming though so long as you are mindful, I say this as someone who has experience using it and knows a bit of computer science. If you don't know the right way to use it without vibecoding, AI is also great at teaching you things due to its fast research capabilities. You can even use it to find art tips and critique shitty social media advice. This is the true use of AI, being your own workplace. Make yourself the boss using your automated tech slave. You can deal with all the humanities like art direction and emotion.
