I never really thought it was hard but fuck,I can barely do a decent drawing after 30 minutes, should I just copy every gun in every angle?, should I start lurking /k/, did I fuck myself by not drawing a million boxes?, whats the trick?
>>8006383yeah boxes
>>8006383A good exercise to try is to trace most of a reference but leave off one part of it, like the barrel or handle or something, then hide the reference and try to finish the drawing yourself. Then you can compare how close you were to the reference. This will basically allow you to draw a lot of boxes in context quickly (since gun parts are basically just boxes) and get immediate feedback on how correct you are.Basically for mechanical objects like this it is just an exercise in boxes and perspective.
>>8006383You need to know how to construct shapes and how perspective works. Those are fundamentals and you need to study them. As for guns... there is a technicality problem you should start with very simple guns not AK's which have shit ton of details you need to get correct. Try to find simpler guns for example Makarov or MAC-10 those should be the first ones you ever going to draw since they are easier to draw but you will still struggle with them i mean here is my first draw(2019) of makarov and glock it looks meh but that's the point don't try to do fancy things unless you can manage basics.
>>8006383What do you wanna know? It's a big topic and I'm no expert but I do draw them from imagination often (pic related) Do you mean designing them or just understanding what is in front of you, or what?
>>8006835One more cuz im a nasty lil attention whore that likes posting his art
>>8006383You have use a computer model in perspective as your reference, and then tried to freehand itThis is not the methodA gun is a piece of complex engineeringMachinery all has to begin as a technical drawing for factory people to know what they are building and machining You need to at least use a rulerYou ain't freehanding that shit ever

OP here, sorry for abandoning the post, I'm very thankful for all the advice and recommendations, I've been drawing nonstop since I posted the first drawing, and desu I could've worded it better, I've drawn some guns before, but only from the side, never at an angle. And in regards to the drawing I found it really hard to make not look so blocky, specially with the parts of the guns that had some sort of volume and curves, I think it's very noticeable in both the handle and the handguard, and well the sights and dust cover, not sure how to fix that >>8006835I want to know how to incorporate them in an interesting manner alongside my characters, I'm a big fan of Gunsmith Cats and Strike Witches, and I really like how they are drawn, I'm not particularly interested in designing that just seems insanely complicated for my current level also >>8006838 cool drawing
>>8006383In Hirohiko Araki's book Manga in Theory and Practice he recommends to buy a model replica of a gun that you can assemble and study the insides. Plenty of artists suck at drawing complex machinery because they don't take the time to study them.
Guns are just boxes and cylinders. look at gun magazines or whatever and learn the character of your favourite guns. Then they become easier to draw even if they're not 3D model perfection
>>8008060If you're not in Japan you can buy a real gun even
>>8006649Simplest guns are canons. Then front loading single shots. Then bolt actions. Then the rest. Then G11.
>>8008059Much betterWhat you are aiming for in this piece requires perspective lines, I think maybe you have just drawn one set of lines in one direction?Or maybe it just needs more care in laying out the linesThe barrel end is a circle in perspective, which is difficult and a specific technique. You could pass it with a freehand circle but you would need to at least look at the end of a bottle in your actual real life hand for reference to get the vibe of the shape
>>8006838>ak74 handguard>dong foregrip>mp5 magazine>Vector lower receiver>Sten stockNigga wtf are you doing
>>8008065Yeah it's just a sign of if you can draw boxes in perspective or not. But my brain is completely blanking on OP's pic. >>8006383like what point perspective even is that and how would you draw something that angles like the underside of that gun?
Parallel Bar on a drafting table with isometric perspective is the way. This really is the best way to draw mechanical things and architecture. If drawing digital use guidelines and a grid.
>>8009428I just want to add the you can take a side view of a mechanical object and convert to isometric perspective easily. Search "convert orthographic drawing to isometric" in google
There's no catch, you just have to do this over and over and over and over again. You can draw guns or you can draw boxes. Guns are more fun, but they are essentially the fundamentals that you were supposed to learn by drawing boxes, so by drawing guns you are also teaching yourself the fundamentals that you're trying to skip.Just draw guns a lot. *A LOT*, 50 pages filled with 10 guns in different perspective on each
>>8010630just by drawing them from the game called World of Guns: Gun Disassembly, I think I got a hang of it. You can even, well, you know, disassemble the gun and draw its constituent parts. But for the love of God, don't pay these motherfuckers anything. The prices that they charge are outrageous.
