Hey everyone. I'm an illustrator who wants to work with 3D artist to make artwork for a trading card game.

The theme of the card game is 90s CGI, very intentionally low quality in the vein of ReBoot, super early Pixar shorts etc.

It's also themed around pulpy, classic RPGs like DnD, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest etc. Because of this reason the art style will lean towards being more realistic.

So, I understand that many things cannot translate from 2D to 3D and right now I'm trying to figure out if there are anything I should keep in mind. I don't want to make the work too hard for the modeller so I'm looking to have some shortcuts in the design philosophy of the project. Things like maybe having four fingers instead of five etc.

I do have one specific question and it's eyes. Eyes feel like one of those things I could hammer out easily in a drawing but it would be a pain for a 3D artist to pull it off especially with my two caveats of low-poly art mixed with dark fantasy. I really like what Digimon does with it's humanoid Digimon where they keep their eyes covered with masks, cloth etc. Are eyes that much more difficult to model that I should consider making all of my characters masked? Thank you!
