Honestly, relying on these platforms to give you money instead of creating actual revenue sources yourself has made people lazy. Newgrounds Animators didn't get money from the site back in the day (outside of cash prizes for frontpages and such, and that wasn't much).
People made merch, released DVDs, hunted down sponsors for the project, had donation drives, got their own advertising system sort out and made their own websites to keep all ad profits, did private showings, and so on.

Now people fail to suck on the financial tit of youtube, twitter, or webtoon, etc, and just give up. These companies don't WANT to give you money -- they would love for you to be as successful as possible without reaching the monetization threshold so that they can keep milking you for as much as possible without having to pay anything back.
I wish people would just leave that fucking corpo shithole that is youtube; it's soul already left at least a decade ago.

first newgrounds was close on shutting down until they gotten a new cash cow that saved the site from going offline(fnf), second that was during a time where people(consoomers) didn't just stick to one site for stuff, and last people don't even use fourms or go to personal sites anymore, that's why indie/portfolio websites are dead cause people rather use social media or youtube for everything now due to convenience. Many artist websites or youtube alternatives have been made and fucking failed cause the consoomers don't want to use anything else.
